Yesterday we did our second Sortie run with some friends, we are 4 well prepared players, a Geo mule from a friend who is not playing at the moment and another new player Cor who has been playing for a short time and is only +5, but has Naegling and bumba set to R0.

We were Run, Blu, Brd, Rdm, Geo and Cor, we did almost all the objectives of A and B, but the final boss of B destroyed us even though we had all the KIs.

We saw late that he had to nuke the opposite element of his hand, but he still killed us.
Today we want to test the strategy of RUN, BLM, WHM, WAR, geo and Cor, do you think it would be better to take a BLM to have the final boss of B more controlled?

The general idea with this boss and most of the others is to kill them fast before they become a problem, the more buffs the B boss absorbs the worse he becomes gaining 5% DT and 5% damage up every 30 or so seconds. You can chain and MB him out of it but seems inconsisent so most people opt for not having to deal with it.

If he starts on wind, i would recommend waiting to buff properly, having the RUN pull and COR shoot from distance, ground strike/leaden > ICE mb from geo. once he changes to thunder THEN buff asap and wreck him. every time we've had issues its because in wind he's stolen all the good buffs for himself. if you take too long about it he -DT can start to build but we manage it with RUN COR GEO + healing trusts so 6 real ppl should be fine.

(edit: I fully agree if you're in a strong 6 man you can just savage your way through it, but just sharing a strat that has worked when that isn't viable)

Its been discussed for a few pages but the only thing not to do is any offensive JA such as provoke, anything that targets the mob will invalidate the objective.

Provoke is fine and does not interfere.

Edited out the Bhoot question because I was, in fact, being dumb. Killed it 4 seconds to slow and misread the log message

A3 stuff:
I pull all the mobs for a3 chest with Provoke and have had no issues getting it in 3 kills for several days just letting Shantotto one nuke while i melee it down. Might resummon her for the last mob because she blows through mp but her nukes only do 1.3kish and I doubt she gets 10k dmg off each fight, but maybe... I'm very confident anyone can replicate this at the leeches right before A boss in just a few minutes. As previously mentioned: Cornelia, Cheruikki, Sylvie, Koru-moru and Shantotto(original). Takes 5-ish minutes to get the a3 chest and have had no issues with Ghatjot without a4 chest in several kills.

Fun math fact:

Odds of getting a +1 old case from a chest or nm (being generous, say 1 in 10)
Odds of getting a +2 earring from a +1 old case (being generous, say 1 in 10)
Odds of any earring being for the job you want = 1 in 22

Therefore, odds of getting a +2 earring on your job is:

= (1/10)*(1/10)*(1/22)
= (0.1)*(0.1)*(0.04545)
= 0.0004545
= 0.045%
OR 1 in 2200 odds per eligible boss clear or chest.

Keep in mind this doesn't take into account the fluctuations in the augments for each of the three augment types on the +2s.

Yipeeeee!!!

This is precisely why my group is already ready to be finished with Sortie. We've been clearing most known objectives on each run once they've been reported, and to this day our main group has still only received a single +1 case.

I've unlocked all the +2 empy gear I want at this point, and there's currently no monetary gain to be found in the event, so the only point of the event is chasing the +2 ears. Considering how incredibly rare they seem to be, the event mostly seems like a waste of time.

No it's worse. +1 drop rate is labelled "Very Rare" (1%) from coffers and "Rare"(5%) from major NM on bg wiki.

So the chance of getting a +2 earring from a case +1 is 10% x 1% = 0.001%.

And the chance of getting the right job=0.001x0.045=0.000045% aka 22k coffers opened.

I can see endless coffers popping in my dream tonight....

My God... thank you for that information! So there are 29 coffers total at 1 in 100 odds of getting a +1 old case, and 4 nms with 1 in 20 odds for getting a +1 old case. That makes things much easier to get a more realistic answer.

So we can calculate the odds of getting a +2 earring, on a specific job for either an NM OR a chest.

For an NM:

odds of getting a +1 old case = 1/20

I researched the odds of getting a +2 earring from a +1 old case and it is in fact 1 in 10, so 1/10 (it's listed as uncommon "U"; just like you said).

The odds of getting a job-specific earring is 1 in 22, so 1/22.

Therefore, the odds of getting a +2 job specific earring from an NM is:

=(1/20)*(1/10)*(1/22)
=1/4400 so 1 in 4400 (for each NM defeated)

The odds of getting a +2 job specific earring from coffers is:

=(1/100)*(1/10)*(1/22)
=1/22000 so 1 in 22,000 per coffer.

The odds of getting a +2 earring (not specific to a job) from an NM is:

=(1/20)*(1/10)
=1/200 so 1 in 200 for every NM killed.

The odds of getting a +2 earring (not specific to a job) from a coffer therefore would be:

=(1/100)*(1/10)
=1/1000 so 1 in 1000 for every coffer opened.

To put things in perspective:

To win the mog bonanza rank 1 prize, you need to get three numbers to match (assuming the range of selection is 000 - 999). This would make the odds of winning the rank 1 prize:

1/1000 or 1 in 1000

I really think SE needs to rethink their earring drop system (just my opinion lol)

Im in same boat and said the same thing to most people. Ive never seen a +1 or +2 earring. Ive gotten maybe 20ish earrings to drop so at this point I legit just wanna get my emp +2 for jobs I want and be done with it.

I stopped popping my old cases a few runs back. Currently have 23 unopened cases in my inventory. Just no point in using them...

I call bs on this, my group has yet to see a +1 case ever basically running since launch and getting 2-3 NM coffers per run, and 4 boss kills for the past two weeks. Would put us at close to 3 full misses at 1/20 odds. .5% chance of missing in 50 chests, and I know we've done more than that since launch for NM chests only, completely disregarding blue chest chances which are easily over 100 by now. This is assuming boss kills share the same 5% as NM's. The rate of +1 cases is abysmal.

Yeah not even close... I probably have 40 cases sitting in inventories, popped maybe 20? I've been lucky and got 1 +1 case on an alt. I'd venture 1/100 is much closer to accurate.

Might write something to parse people at the exit - wouldn't be ideal way to do it but maybe over the long run it'll trend close.

You probably got blue and brown on the same kill and opened one and forgot to open 2nd or just missed opening 1st brown completely.

Could be anecdotal, but I was struggling getting the A chests on MNK solo with pure melee damage for a bit, before I realized that Monberaux was using Dark Mix on them.

In Omen, Dark Mix registers as a Weapon Skill, and reports for the WS Damage objective. It very likely is doing the same here.

After dropping Monberaux, I had no issues getting the chests.

Could be coincidental, but throwing it here as a possibility.

It is combined odds from all servers if its anything like ffxidb I think? How else would wiki come up with these rates after a few days. Who really knows. Or it's about to give 4 +1 case in 1 run. Assuming its player odds then 10 chances from chests at 1 in 100 (yes every blue red gold can give +1) 4 from major NM's at 1 in 20. So 100 divided by 10 and 20 divided by 4 is 10 + 5 x 22 = 330 x 10 (chance at +2 from +1 case) = 3300 x however many augment tiers, like 4 so 13,200 perfect runs to get capped +2 for all jobs. Or be extremely lucky and get 1 for right job in 600 perfect runs or less.

I was in that run and they had to have all been opened since the #/7 count increase only triggers upon opening it, we went back to the area and there was no chest

Someone likely completely made up those rarities on the wiki.

Don't bank on them being true.

100% made up, and even the groupings of rarities being the same for chests/caskets/bosses/etc have to be made up until more data is available. Someone keen on editing BG is seeing bad drop rates and assuming that means "VR" but like, I don't even sortie every day , more often than not don't get a full clear, and we've seen 3 +1's so that's like 'R' chance at worst, and it depends on where the dropped from.

Also consider, even if something is "5%" or 1 in 20 odds (1/20) it's not really a guarantee that it will happen by the time you "roll the dice" 20 times. Recall defending ring had a similar drop rate from what I recall and some people just got lucky and got it in a few kills and some people it took forever.

There is multiple ways it could be parsed, per player, per server, all servers combined, per NM, per casket/coffer/Aurum or all in 1. Would be nice to know but don't think anyone does.

Maybe rematerialize only moves the NM if they are out of their section. Otherwise they stay put if still alive?

I mean either way you slice the the drop rate is horrible no matter what they put up end of the day. I know someone posted it as an example but let's face it some of the stuff on the srotie wiki is shambles anyway.

Just wanted to share what we have been doing for the last week..

Maximum rewards, fool-proof strategy, 14 steps:

Party Setup: COR, BRD, WHM, BLU, SAM, ANYTHING

1) Bolters roll then everyone goes North to gather 6 Acuex. One person can check south for Leech NM before joining the party. Have BLU nuke them down while party buffs. Avoid any physical damage to them. Make sure they are all tagged red when they die. 1 Blue + 2 Brown chests.

2) Go further North to area A boss and don't forget to rest for 1 tick after #A1 gate for the second blue casket. Kill boss A. For all bosses use savage blade, tachi shoha, reso, etc. spam to avoid skillchains. Can stun lock with sudden lunge.

3) After killing the A boss, bolters and head East to elementals and check for the Leech NM on the way. Avoid the Porxie.

4) Complete 3 objectives on Elementals. For the first 3 kills avoid magic aggro and kill them with anything in less than 20 secs each for blue chest. 3-step leaden works well. Then you can just WS/SC the rest for the 2 brown chests. Wildfire>Wildfire, Fudo>Fudo, CDC>CDC all work.

5) Kill area B boss. Avoid SC. Can stun lock with sudden lunge.

6) After killing the B boss, head South to K-8 and kill the Porxie on the way. If you already passed it on the way you can go back for it.

7) At K-8, Bolter's and split up. Half the group goes South-East to the locked gate B while the other half goes West to the other locked gate B. Open the gates together and find and kill the Bhoot NM within 2.5mins.

8)After killing the Bhoot, head to the upper level of skeletons.
MB fire or light-based spells at least once each on 6 skeletons to get both brown chests. Ninjitsu, Dia, low/high tier nukes all work.

9) Kill area C boss. Avoid SC. Can stun lock with sudden lunge.

10) After the boss, split into 2 groups to save time(or don't) and kill the remaining skeletons and ghosts on the way to corses. If you didn't already get the blue chest, have everyone focus and kill 3 corses within 20 secs from aggro for Blue chest. Kill the remaining corses for the second blue chest.

11) Head to area D and look for the Fomor NM. Kill the NM and head to one of the small rooms with 6 Fomors (H-9 or G-6). If you didnt find the leech NM earlier, the COR can go find it and solo kill. When the last NM dies you should get a golden chest.

12) Kill the 6 Fomors in order (WAR/MNK/WHM/BLM/RDM/THF) while doing a 4-step on each. Can entomb to keep them petrified. You will get 1 Red, 2 Brown, and 2 Blue chests.

13) Head to area D NM and kill. Avoid SC. Can stun lock with sudden lunge.

14) Kill Fomors with the remaining time.

Good luck

I do understand that 5% isn't guaranteed, I'm saying that the astronomical odds of getting 60+ NM's and over 100-150 blue chests, seeing 0 is a couple standard deviations away from mean. So what I'm saying is either 5% is wrong (more likely) or I'm a statistical outlier by over 2 standard deviations (less likely)

And the chance of getting the right job=0.001x0.045=0.000045% aka 22k coffers opened.

I can see endless coffers popping in my dream tonight....

For an NM:

odds of getting a +1 old case = 1/20

I call bs on this, my group has yet to see a +1 case ever basically running since launch and getting 2-3 NM coffers per run, and 4 boss kills for the past two weeks. Would put us at close to 3 full misses at 1/20 odds. .5% chance of missing in 50 chests, and I know we've done more than that since launch for NM chests only, completely disregarding blue chest chances which are easily over 100 by now. This is assuming boss kills share the same 5% as NM's. The rate of +1 cases is abysmal.

So whoever is editing the wikis might be better off elaborating on how they sourced their odds.

Each NM could have its own rate same for casket/coffer/aurum. I also forgot D zone in the above guestimate so it would be 100/13 if count all in 1. 100/13 (coffer/casket/aurum) then 20/4 (major NM's) rounding up so 8 + 5 = 13 x 22 jobs = 286 x 10 (in in 10 chance to be +2 from a +1 case) = 2860 x 4 (number of possible augments?)= 11,400 perfect runs to get every job capped. Yes its pretty hopeless content and something needs to be done.

So far I have had 8 old cases 2 old case +1s and 9 sapphires drop. Most of those have come from red/aurum coffers. On average I get at least 1 drop somewhere in a run. The Aurum coffer can drop multiple items. I got a sapphire + old case from a single Aurum

Still no +2 earring

You are extremely lucky to get 2 +1 cases out of 10 total. Prepare for 30 old cases without any +1 now, for balance.

I think my numbers are somewhere around 1 Old Case +1 every 15 or so Old Cases. I have only gotten two so far since start, no +2 Earrings, and the +1s were nothing impressive. I'm thinking it's like 5% chance at +1 case or something really low.
