Thought to be honest, in hindsight I am more leaning towards they "should not have shot him" but they should NOT have just let him run away and get tired like others have mentioned.

They could have just continued to pursue him, he wasn't going anywhere, they had his car. Just keep chasing him, you know the only weapon he had was a non lethal taser, just chase him down. There was no reason to shoot him.

also, its irrefutable that multiple supreme court cases have held that i am correct; the suspect presented a clear and present threat to the officers life the moment he fired that taser. again, hitting you in the back, while your pointing a firearm backwards at a cop, is different from just shooting someone who is running away not shooting at you. its why the cop didnt shoot at him, and never drew his weapon, until the idiot in question shot at him.

Then when he kills someone else or causes further mayhem, its the cops fault. He should have not ran, why is that hard? He was 100% in the wrong.

correction: Tasers are considered less lethal, not non lethal legally speaking. they still are classified as lethal force - particularly when justifying an officer shooting.

as for never being a cop again, you are incorrect; if he is found innocent, and did not violate department policy, he can become a cop again. he can specifically sue them for wrongful termination as it is a contractual job.
Mayhap you are unfamiliar with the demographics and culture of Atlanta.
And like I said, he might win and get damages+pension, but it'll be part of a settlement where he never serves another day in uniform. At this point it doesn't matter whether he was right or wrong; he can NOT go back to active duty, because it would be a PR catastrophe. This already ended Erika Shields' career; you think he's gonna get his gun and badge back?

had he not fired the taser at the officer? id be right there agreeing that shooting was not ok. but when the officer shoots him in less than a fraction of a second after firing a taser at the officer. its not like the guy fired, then kept running away- he kept pointing the taser at the cop, a taser with one more round to fire, up until the moment he was shot. This took half a second or so to occur.

your arguing that he Shoudnt, as if he cant. that is not the same as he cant. Im saying he can. he can legally force them into re-hiring him. by your own admission he can do just that.

Again, he CAN, but I think it will be made pretty clear that it's in everyone's best interests - including his - if he goes away.
We're arguing different things here.

If he killed someone while drunk driving, that is a grave crime indeed. He was a huge risk to leave him run off*. Drunk and extremely aggressive as proved by his actions. He shouldn't have resisted arrest and assaulted two officers. Then he would probably be alive. If if if...
If my grandmother had wheels would she be a trolley car?
Should all drunk drivers be shot on sight?
*Oh... he wasn't driving! Should all drunk runners be shot on sight?

kinda sort of? i agree that i think its in the best interest of preventing public outrage- but if the man has a spine, no amount of money will ever make him not pursue his own innocence. (which he probably doesn't have a spine because let's be fair, people for some reason today cant pick a hill to die on when slapped in the face with a wad of cash)

only the ones that brutally beat police officers and then shoot a stolen taser at them.

Everyone with a pen should be shot on sight, pens are lethal weapons!
Everyone, who isn't a Police Officer, is a potential felon and criminal. Why should all these potential felons be allowed to walk around free until they inevitably commit a crime, lock em all up instead, or better yet put them in "special camps" where we can "solve the problem".
Nothing that man did was a capital crime, yet the Police Officer acted as Judge, Jury and Executioner when they decided he was guilty of maybe being guilty of a crime and sentenced him to death.

"Letting him run" isn't the same as letting him get away. They were chasing him, they stopped and shot him as he was running away, instead of continuing to chase him. He was drunk, without a vehicle, he wasn't going anywhere.

so when your running away from someone, and pointing a weapon backwards - guess how much of your back is facing the person your shooting at?
Almost all of it.
like literally. look at the VERY LAST picture i posted. it is a fraction of a second before he is shot. you can see that he is running while pointing backwards.

So he is running away while he is shot, exactly what I said. There is no danger, no reason to drop your taser, pull out your weapon and shoot the guy running away. If you feel like that taser is such a threat (it's not) give him some distance. No reason to kill him.

So then thats not a picture of him STILL Pointing the taser at the cop the fraction of a second before he was shot?

Here you go: The ACLU even considers them to be 'less lethal' and is petitioning for them to be removed from non-lethal force situations.

> Since 2001, over 100 people have died in the U.S. after being stunned with a Taser.
This has led to increasing controversy surrounding their use. Despite the steadily increasing
number of Taser-related deaths, its manufacturer continues to maintain that Tasers are a safe and
essential less lethal weapon. Many law enforcement agencies and departments also believe in
the safety and effectiveness of Tasers and feel that the device is essential for routine police
emergencies. However, other police departments nationwide – most notably in Chicago and the
State of New Jersey – have suspended the use of Tasers or have put on hold plans to expand their
deployment, citing concerns about their safety following fatal incidents

I am sure he was an upstanding citizen who will get a parade with al Sharpton and all the leaders professing how great he was to the community. Also he was drunk driving. He was in a car drunk, to the point he passed out. The car didnt drive itself to the Wendys. While he shouldnt have died, he also shouldn't have been drunk driving, resisting arrest and also firing a weapon at police. He would have probably been jailed for the rest of his life on those charges alone.
