People forget about stuffs. And get back to normal.

Thats pretty standart behaviour in humanity.

Actually? Never.

The old normal is gone. There will be a new normal someday.

which means when people start mixing again you will have another outbreak and another lockdown for the same reasons again in the colder months. This will turn into a yearly routine.
I don't think so. This may be a new "flu" and people will just live their lives like normal after this. Especially since once you get it, you are immune to it for years, not months, unlike the flu.

Since, you know, the virus mutates slowly and not much is changed unlike the flu.

Those that recovered are good to go for years on. Those of us who hasn't had it yet, if we survive (still a good chance to do so), will be good for years to come.

Based on what? The pandemic is 4 months old, not even 1 year yet.

Well thats the 19th covid so

please stop fear mongering that even if a vaccine is developed that it would only be good for one year.

You're comparing vaccine design and efficacy to our familiarity with Influenza. For the ninetieth time- this is not an influenza based virus!

We have dozens of vaccines that give lifelong immunity. When's the last time you got a measles shot? Or one for mumps?

This isn't called coronavirus because its cute and allows for shitty beer jokes (read as either shitty beer jokes or shitty beer jokes...works either way)- it has been named that due to its structural pattern and similar symptoms/lifespan of other coronaviruses. It will mutate, yes all things do, and the fact that this can jump between species sure isn't very hopeful in terms of reducing such mutation. Antibodies produced either by exposure to a weakened virus via vaccine or actual exposure to live virus don't just protect against that exact virus- often there is a slight "family" immunization gained for similar viruses. I'm not saying this WILL happen, but more often than not it does.

My point is there's absolutely no reason to jump to annual vaccines needed until those who actually know these things start telling us progress based on their work- months from now.

Do you know what MOST of the previous 18 were? Harmless common colds.

The virus has a slower mutation rate than a standard flu. It is estimated that a vaccine would protect you for at least a year in the event of a seasonal outbreak cycle.

Post sources, not opinion pieces. Don't fox news me.

Also neither kn or me mentioned vaccination there so I'm not sure where you're trying to take it.

Um, vaccination and recovery would give similar immunity times, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I posted something a while back from an evolutionary biologist that talked about the mutation rate and expected immunity time. I'll see if I can find the same article....

Okay, I found the article that mentioned him, but the meat of his argument is in a Twitter feed where he lays out his case. I wish he had done it in a more... reputable... place than Twitter, but he shares some interesting data related to antigenic drift of other viruses and then makes a prediction based on what we know so far about Covid-19.

https://twitter.com/trvrb/status/1242628550563250176

Obviously we don't know for sure how long immunity will last, but it looks to be significantly better than the flu in early predictions.

I do get the feeling that, in most places, people will be more inclined to vaccinate against this particular virus than the flu. Flu vaccinations can be hit and miss because of the guess work with predicting strains and the fast mutation rate. Covid-19 vaccinations would likely be much more effective given its mutation rate, and it has enough people sufficiently freaked out that they might actually go out of their way to inoculate. Herd immunity could be quite strong, but maybe that’s wishful thinking on my part.

Well it's an RNA virus and they do mutate more than others, but apparently they have observed it mutates at a slower rate. So yeah maybe, but we don't know either way for sure.

Also fear mongering? Everyone is fear mongered to capacity, if you think saying having a yearly vaccine is fear mongering you're out of touch with reality.

I'll moderate my reaction of "Fear Mongering" down to "Jumping to Conclusions".

You are right, I was going by what Dr. Fauci said a couple of weeks ago.

But since there is no long-term study out there to source my opinion, all I can go by is what is said in preliminary studies.

And yet, I watched him on Fox News. It seems like that is the only network that is willing to broadcast information anymore, instead of conjecture and, in the case of CNN, outright lies.

What your source actually says on what is being discussed;

Quote:
If I had to guess, I would predict that #SARSCoV2 will behave similarly to existing seasonal coronaviruses in its ability to mutate to avoid vaccines and immunity.
So, it's just an educated guess that it will develop the same way as swine flu, not really any proof that if you have it you will be immune "for years". Not being pedantic but you cannot make make factual claims this early like kn is.

A person cannot simultaneously be all like "wait and see!!" when it comes to death tolls, but then use estimations when it suits them. Consistency would be great.

?

I think you're just arguing for the sake of arguing, which I understand is your modus operandi, but educated guesses are all that any of us have to go on. If you have an issue with pointless discussions from people who don't actually have a clue beyond what they heard on the news or read online, you're in the wrong place.

It's pretty much guesses at the moment.

Vaccine is sort of like memloc. It will keep working until next version update that mess with it.

Certain vaccine are more effective than others depending on the memloc they are giving you.

Corona Virus seems to go for about 3-5 years before they get an update that could seriously do damage.

So you can deduct that a good vaccine could last you for 3~10 years.

However, this is not the flu so you don't have a predict next year vaccine going. That means vaccine for future outbreaks is going to take time.

Governments can reduce the time it take to make vaccine for future outbreaks by hiring labs to keep making and testing vaccine for Corona Virus. So once a new outbreak occur, they can have something resembling the actual vaccine and can start working on producing the vaccine instead of just testing it.

I don't know how many dose of vaccine an egg can give but let's say 10 doses per egg. The US government got something like 1 million exclusive vaccine chicken that produces 1 million eggs a day for vaccine (according to npr), roughly 10 mil doses per egg. Roughly 2~3 months to vaccinate everyone if they already have the vaccine and tested on human before.

I highly doubt we can "go back to normal" in the near future. It's another year until vaccine comes out. So economy will suffer for another 2 years or so.

Before that happen political power will reshuffle. More and more countries will slowly cut the tie with China from this incident, and of course China will retaliate one way or another, by attempting to gain their influence back.

This may lead to military conflict in some of the regions, and that will certainly affect our daily life, for many years to come.

TL;dr

Pretty sure that's your Modus operandi.

If pointing out that you shouldn't state facts based on guesses offends you then you're in the right place.

I'm sorry that your source doesn't support your claim. You can get back to fox news style now.

I didn't state opinion as fact, and I'm pretty sure you don't know what my claim was in the first place. But hey, what else is new.
