If they remade XI so it's like XIV in some ways I'll be okay with that. Keep the open world sandbox elements and art style but give me more qol stuff. I'll take a duty finder for stuff like eco war, ambuscade, and bcnm stuff. At least that can help people from spending hours trying to make a group and instead get parties formed from cross server stuff.

hmm if they simply relaunched ffxi on the 14 engine, that could be a lot of fun. I would think it worthwhile replaying thru... but I don't believe it would be profitable.

There would be nothing cool with ffxi on ffxiv engine really. That would destroy gear swaping and strategical approach of Ffxi which is whole essence of this game. Also what would be the point of that when you can simply play ffxiv then instead?

naw

ff14 engine has alot of tools that were really designed for 11.

you would just keep the battle rules same as 11 as is.

14 can gear swap, there is just no compelling reason to do so. you would just need to build in the weaponskill, skillchain and magic burst sytems and you'd be fine.

You do realize that FFXI was and still is designed with Ps2 devkits right? They literally can't devlop this game in a windows environment. The difference in architecture between the two games is almost assuredly too drastic for them to even be capable of making 11 function in a 14 like shell.

The impression I got was that the reliance on PS2 dev kits was only with respect to cutscene tools, and even that was something they were working on getting away from now that there was reason to.

The engine itself is suboptimal due to being a port/etc, and isn't alone in that. Halo, Silent Hill 2, and other console ports use odd rendering like XI does on PC.

They could recreate the game in a more modern engine and improve quite a lot, but it'd be an expense that they may not recoup.

No, you're wrong. Every asset in FFXI is created with Ps2 dev kits and then ported over to a windows environment through DirectX conversion. This includes character models, sprites, animations, effects, zones, and more. Every character, every chair or scenery object, every monster, every tree and rock, every new weapon and armor model, they're all created first in a Ps2 environment and then ported over. When the original FF 11 design team moved to the FF 14 project they never bothered to transition the code so that new assets could be created directly in a windows environment. That's why they're so reserved about making a new expansion. They're afraid the few Ps2 dev kits they have remaining would fail mid process. They don't want to get stuck with half finished zones and character models that are only partially complete, and have no way to finish their design. It goes far beyond cutscenes.

I was agreeing with you, and then things started to get crazy.

Empy are weapons already soley based on White damage. Most of their weapon skills are garbage besides granting the AM, so there is no need for another white damage REMA.

If those requirements ever get set up for a REMA, then I want it to combine ALL REMA into one. Otherwise it just isn't worth undertaking. Additionally, with the requirements solely being currency, it means people who buy gil will have the weapons within a day and the rest of us honest folk will get screwed. This is exactly why I love Ergon, anyone that has one has PROVED to work for what they have.

There's so much stuff SE could do that would use very little in terms of thought or code... in addition to whatever "Major Content" they were thinking of adding.

They could make CP a currency with which to buy stuff. Make an NPC that's able to hold up to 9,999 CP, but can only accept 500CP per week. Costs 300CP for a Riftcinder. 3CP for an alexandrite, Multiple trades of 500CP to get a new ring, multiple trades of 500CP for a new Earring, Multiple Trades of 500CP for a +2 of unity gear.

They could make Apex-esque monsters in Signet/Sanction zones with intention of putting Conquest Points & Imperial Standing to some use again. So while everyone is eye balling trading in their CPs for rewards, they see the option to do it in these old zones where they can get rewards from that, too. Conquest/Imperial is a system that's been in the game for years, and largely left unexpanded from their original use. Throw a cure potency II ring on there for 750k (Conquest/Imperial) points along with a tank oriented ring and a melee DPS ring, a ranged DPS ring, and a nuke oriented ring. Then some time down the road, add an Earring for each of the basic roles for 850k points. And being that these items would NOT be a pick and choose only one reward, people will come back to get them all. This is cake stuff from a coding point of view and would have people grinding for a bit just to get them all. Then once everyone thinks they have them, then SE adds another component to it: Augment system similar to Ambuscade where it costs 150k (Conquest/Imperial) points to buy a paper that can be traded with the item to an NPC to get +1 STR or +1MND or +1FC or -1% DT, or whatever, with whatever caps they feel make sense. Cake to code, keeps people busy for a long time. They already have the blue print for this between Signet/Imperial Standing NPCs and the Ambuscade NPC.

Do something with the Expansion pack reward options. We'd all love to dust off our Rajas Ring and put it to use again. It could use a +10accuracy/+10attack augment, or a +5% WS DMG augment, or a +5 regen augment.

The Aht Urgan Rings could also use a similar augment. Oh, and let us use the upgraded version anywhere. Remove that Assault zone/area tag.

The same for our Wings of the Goddess Earrings. Could use a +10 accuracy, +10 attack augment, or a +3% WS DMG augment, or a +3% Crit Hit DMG augment, or a +3% crit hit rate, or +10macc/10mab, or whatever.

Just do something with these reward options and people will grind to upgrade them. Then they'll grind to change the augment to something else for a different job at some point or even outright change their reward option.

The original Ark Angel fight... Suppanomimi, and those rewards, they could all use some kind of a boost of stats, too.

See now I could see some fun here, releasing new iLvl versions of final battles of the expansions that give a tome item that can be traded with the reward to an NPC to essentially iLvl the reward. Rather than just adding acc/atk to something though, stick with the pattern of the reward. Take Rajas from a cap on the stats from +5 to +8. Change the +sword skill on suppa to +all combat skills....other things that preserve the initial intent of the piece yet grow it to fit into modern gear.

SE has often said that its difficult for them to add NEW items to the game due to limited resources. Beefing up prior rewards shouldn't change those resources, it just means re-coding the stats on old ones.

I also very much like the idea of introducing CP Apex mobs in old zones and introducing desirable items purchaes from CP/ISP/etc. On that vein of using old zones, please do something with the old Promyvion zones! Some of my favorite zones in the game forever, and they just sit empty (yes, I'm using that pun, deal)!

Nearly everything in her wall of text is a bad idea. But especially 2-5. There is no need for more "Apex" camps, and the extra JP is kind of silly since you can cap cp/kill during campaign with Corsair's roll. I don't know why people act like CPing is enjoyable content. It gets redundant after about 5 minutes, and players only do it because it's necessary.

What needs to happen is to uncap Capacity Points to reduce the amount of time spent doing that mindless activity; And increase JP beyond Master, but use something unique like a "Master Trials" clear system for players who want to break that boundary. iirc, JP cap was supposed to be initially higher than it is now. Would be kind of cool if clearing MT fights on specific jobs allowed you to break caps on certain JP categories. Could limit it to only a couple categories, but it would allow you to customize your character in different ways depending on what you want to improve. You'd also have something to do with all of those excess JP on your mastered jobs.

It sucks to experience, but long term goals are good for player retention and once you finish coalitions you get both weapons for a song. I don't think it's that bad overall. It also gets you through the bulk of the prereqs for Ygnas and adoulin ring+1, which are both neat to have. If anything, I'd have rhapsodies cut imprim time by 1/2 to 3/4.

The real problem is players demanding you need Idris or Epeolatry to participate when Aettir is good enough for everything(except maybe B&W?) and Idris is much less impactful when Bagua Charm +2 is an option.

I'm not sure what you mean by uncap it, but I don't think they need to do anything particularly huge to reduce the amount of time it takes to get to Master than what's in the game already for CP% bonuses between cape, RoE, RoV, etc. I mean, they could add another RoE or few for another 10 to 20% bonus and they could do something with Incursion higher levels to get another ~25% bonus on the cape there, but beyond that, I think it'd be dumb to do too much to speed the process up.

It's an old game with a small crew and *I* want more ***to do. I don't want to see a bunch of significant short cuts added to a game that sees very little in the way of new content to do once you're done with what's there already. For SE to add a bunch of short cuts is for them to bury the game that much faster.

I get your point, but REMAs are supposed to be extras. I don't want the process to be about people learning about their job.

Ugh, every single ultimate weapon in the game is just a series of mindless farming and Turing in item. Not a single one teaches you about any job. The only difference with ergon is a longer time lockout than others. Have to wait 7 month? Farm hp bayld onto a mule the whole time while unlocking it.

Assuming they did this and it didn't break our ability to change gear mid fight, wouldn't it break current windower among other tools? Its not like one line of code changes to say use the new engine instead of the current one.

Imagine the drop off of players if they cant use *any* third party tools.

Or or a rebirth system. You start at lvl 1 again but have the points/stats of lvl 99. So basically lvl 99+1, until you are 99+99. Do that 3 times to achieve heroic status. Only place to get exp is from an apex, but at this stage there will be apex mob in all the zone but certain location. To gain access to this, players must use a new to teleport.

Assuming a lot (and I mean a lot) and they just did a graphic overhaul and possibly a new directx standard while leaving the base code of the game alone (systems), it would probably require a new hook. But that would be literally best case scenario, and very unlikely.

If SE were kind enough to actually give us a client overhaul, hopefully they'd add a lot of the other simple features (distanceplus, sub 1s delay on equipsets, enemybar, equipviewer, etc). Granted even if they did break everything under the sun I imagine at least SOME people would try to get SOMETHING working. But it's a long hypothetical, especially considering there isn't really financial incentive for them to do so. The only thing that would really spur such a decision is loyalty to their IP, which they do have at least some to their #d games. The reality is the game isn't that popular and never really has been and that's fine, it's not for everyone, if it were like everything else we probably wouldn't still be here either.
