I recently returned to FFXI last month, and since then I've been wondering about something: How the hell does one go about putting multiple augments on the Ambuscade capes? I know that somehow, the Abdhaljs Needle is involved, but beyond that I'm clueless. Is there also a way to reset the augments on a cape besides buying a new one?

Changing augment via Abdhaljs Needles is done in the same manner as applying Threads, Dust, Sap, or Dye.

Abdhaljs Needle will change your augment path without wiping the mats you already spent. If you dont use it, if you decide to change path, you wipe all progress.

You can use 4 types of item (dye dust thread and sap), each provides a "paths" for augmentation that you choose when you trade it together with cape to gorpa taru.

Hm, and I can fully cap out all four of the augments if I wanted to? Have, for example, a Smertrios Mantle with +20 str, capped double attack, and anything else I'd like to see on it? Nice indeed. Thanks for the answers, guys.

Each upgrade item has a list of augment stats you can pick, and yes you can max each of those. Thread has attributes on it, so you can put 20 dex worth of threads on a cape. Dust has acc, for example, so you can have 20 acc/ 20 attk on that. Dye has any Thread or dust augment, which caps at 10. Sap caps at 10 and cannot be extended with the use of dyes. Needles just change the augment stat.
