16 Prime Weapons x 30 Psyches to Stage 5 = 480 psyches / 5 psyches per month = 96 months / 12 months = 8 YEARS of Peculiar Foes RoEs to make all of the primes.
With respect to the psyche-lock and muffin-spending, I don't perceive this to be a problem per se, but a deliberate design choice by SE. It's easy to argue to that it's sub-optimal, but I think it gives SE an opportunity to come back to Sortie at a later date and add parallel incentives. (Compare Sortie to original Domain Invasion without the daily points to buy items from Zurim; It's like night and day in terms of replay value). How many people do you know who zerged 15 aeonics in a short time and then quit? I can name like 10...that's not SE's fault, that's players' fault for foaming at the mouth.
I think Sortie is currently like Old Domain Invasion, you go in to earn galli and the ways to spend it are very limited. The drites/mats have a singular use case at the moment (stones for armor and drites for weapons). I think SE will come back and add crafts/recipes, a gil-sink and even perhaps additional bosses of Aminon-tier. (Fun fact: There is a placeholder ID for an Aminon-type Boss Bitzer in each Basement quadrant (E,F,G,H), so it's possible we can see a new sortie boss in F/G/H one day to fight with Fragments #1-4 (and beyond).
However, I'm much more hopeful for Sortie than I am with Limbus currently. Fujito said that Limbus is only 60% done as of November's Freshly Picked live stream. Limbus needs to have parallel incentives to participate. (Sortie has it, albeit very mildly with Empy Armor or Prime Weapons, BUT Domain Invasion has beads for Aeonics/AF1 Reforge, Daily Taily, Mireu, Vorseals, etc). Limbus doesn't have this DEPTH for participation just yet.
I think SE has done an OK job separating Apollyon and Temenos with Artifact and Relic armor upgrades. What we don't see yet is additional incentives like in other Daily content.
The ASUS ROG Limbus Armor may or may not have good augments, but that's not the incentive I want. (We don't know if they're Random Augments like Dark Matter or built with RP like Divergence necks or even Path-A/B/C/D like Nyame).
If SE isn't going to give Limbus clear depth and breadth of stuff to do, then I'm ready for the following content if SE were to choose to implement it:
Dyna-Divergence Glacier/Xarcabard
Existing Dyna-Divergence (choose your item level 140-160)
Upgraded Monster Rearing cheers
Item-level WotG Campaign
More Besieged updates
etc etc.
Fujito did announce new zones, but I'm trying to keep my expectations low because SE didn't implement the Blue mage / automaton spell sets that they announced on 1/1/2025 ...but I think what we got in Limbus and content in 2025 is much better (at least so far). Who knows, maybe SE will surprise all of us and make something incredible come out of augmented Prime Weapons? The sky is the limit! ..but SE needs to stop taking the short bus.

I think SE should make a second set of the 15 PF that are *** hard 12+ man content that upon completion give another 5 pyches per month. Give people the option to move faster based on skill.
No doubt we'll be here in 5 years with MT bragging about his 16th prime at the age of 40 still shitposting like he's accomplished it because he's leet.
Happy for you dude.

100%, don't let expectations grow out of hand.
That having been said, the epilogue quest of tVR teased giving players access to Rhazowa...

Sounds awesome, but... a new continent would almost, more than likely mean a whole new expansion. How likely is that to happen at this stage of the games life?

Sorry to let you down, I've only been subbed about 30% of the months since 2011. Not even half of the last 12 months. I'm happy for anyone that finds intellectual stimulation, challenge, and life fulfillment in easy, repetitive content but personally not for me. I enjoyed playing FF3 3D remake more than ffxi for years. You really seem to hate this game, and it makes you act like a reprehensible person in forums. That's a pretty difficult platform to stand on while questioning other (ostensibly more stable) people's choices of what to do with their time. If you enjoy the game, play it. If you don't enjoy it, belligerently attacking strangers on the internet probably isn't the best expression of your dissatisfaction. (To be clear, I'm not attacking you. I can see this causes you pain and I truly hope you feel ok. Drowning in anger feels like ***; I know firsthand.)

I would love if you could quote any post I've ever made bragging about my prime weapons. Do you have any idea how many weapons I have? Which ones are they? Right, you have no *** idea, because I don't brag about my prime weapons.
Attack that strawman all you want, but that is, straight up, factually, not who I am.
I look forward to your evidence to the contrary. I'll wait.

Nice sock account and I appreciate that you're so interested and passionate about my life that you're willing to play pseudo psychologist and write me an essay.
I don't hate the game, it was great, it's just sad how less and challenging and more repetitive it is getting. What offends my intelligence is the people in denial, people happily wasting their lives and so deluded and duped by SE they think they're "good at ffxi". Be my guest to waste your lives. I don't think you'll be wishing you made more primes when on your deathbeds though. Obviously if you've known nothing else since the age of 13 your life is *** though.

P.S. responding to a low lifer that stalks you and shitposts essays at you misrepresenting everything you said isn't "attacking people" do either you haven't been trolling this forum on sock accounts for long enough or you need to go work on your logical reasoning or back to YouTube psychology university.

Making primes is a waste of time, but having over 3,000 posts in 2 years on a forum dedicated to a game one admittedly has played <30% of the time since 2011 is a great use of time, supposedly
By K123 2025-12-11 08:51:51
"I'm so offended that you are happy for me to waste my life I'm going to attack you". Keep it coming, I'll keep pitying you.
I had high hopes for limbus, we got dog ***content and you know it but you also know you have nothing better to do with your life and no self control and are going to spend literally hundreds of hours of your life on it for the next 5 years+ so better to attack the person trying to help you see than accept the state of your life. That's fine bro, you do you.
I also never said anything about primes being a waste of time (in game) but they are a waste of your life when forced to adhere to SE schedule for your life, I am talking primarily about Limbus (thought still does apply to Sortie really). Nice straw man though, you are as good as Male at logical reasoning.

Let's all chill out, and take this to PMs or somewhere else. Dev Tracker discussion has had enough of it, me thinks.

Wasn't that still on the roadmap as of last freshly picked or did they completely drop it? I thought it was still in the works.
Still wish they'd rework the jug system for BST...

With the exception of Absolute Virtue, no content was particularly difficult after we figured it out.
I mean, it seems like they've hesitant about pressuring players to do tough fights since the PW debacle. In 2016, when they did decide to return to the idea of "Apex Encounters", they explicitly decided to give them cosmetic rewards only. As best I can tell, the game has had difficult encounters, but not many people want to clear for a cosmetic. And as easy(?) as the V25s were, it was difficult enough to cause a fair share of rage-quits.
This is just my limited new(ish) player's perspective. Could be wrong.

You're not wrong. I was simplifying matters in order to say that the game's difficulty has been a fairly static variable. Once you know how to overcome an encounter, unless you're relying on RNG, you can do it 100% of the time due to the lack of mechanical requirements in the game. It doesn't require lighting fast response times or brilliant reads in order to win. The closest it ever came to being a mechanically difficult game was when attacks/abilities were churned out at a much slower pace, and you had to proactively predict, account for timing, and manage input/server lag. Even then you only had to be dialed in for solo and low-man attempts.
I've been playing since release (with a couple notable breaks), and we've always had rage quits (of course!). Most of the time they have been due bad drop luck, a lack of patience, a lack of game knowledge, or a lack of a competent/dedicated group. Some of the V25 stuff requires at least a couple of those components, so it totally makes sense that people rage quit over it.
As somebody who used to be one of the "elite snob" players that a certain poster here is aspiring to become, I just wanted to weigh in on the convo. I'm having a lot of fun with the game these days, and I don't find it any more or less difficult than it used to be. (I will say SE has eliminated a LOT of the grind, however.)

It's always wild to me when people say nothing in XI is hard, literally everything in the game is hard. Some of you have never played other mmorpgs.
Even just gearing up well enough to do the harder stuff can take years.

I'm still trying to figure out why anyone cares how/why anyone else play this video game. It's a VIDEO GAME. If you play it, I would assume it's because you enjoy what it has to offer. If you are playing it but not enjoying it, that's on you too.
At the end of the day, it's no one else business but your own.

Even just gearing up well enough to do the harder stuff can take years. I've never played another MMO, I've always seen people say WoW and FFXIV are easier and trusted it but nothing in FFXI is as hard as it was at certain points I think. Einherjar wasn't being done with significantly less than 18 characters (not many boxed then) for a long time after it was out.

(I will say SE has eliminated a LOT of the grind, however.) You clearly don't play FFXI, I mean, are you actually serious?
Weeklies and monthlies are only a few years old.
People that want to think they are gud because of infinite playtime will do Sortie once per day and Limbus 10x a week for max chances. Average of 2.5h a day playtime just for those two events.
When Dyna D was released I was annoyed it had no longevity, and I still think its replay value is low, but in hindsight I think this is what should happen. One event should become something you do regular then fade into less relevance due to making it less essential so that you can focus on new content. The opposite is happening, they are forcing people to commit more and more time to keep up with their need to feel elite because of time commitment rather than challenge.
People like MT play 4-6h a day every day for 20 years and at the current rate of change will be doing 6-8 if they add more content and keep old content relevant. People stopped making aeonics after a few generally and then did more slowly over time, but with primes you could make yourself believe you need 6-8 and the grind is scheduled, you can't break SE's forcing you to do it to their schedule.

If you go back through the Odyssey thread you will find a ton of complaining about the V25 fights being impossible, about how the auras are literally RNG on whether you win or not, how if you don't have the same six people attempting the same fight for weeks continuously you will not win. I think the perception of difficulty in the game's content shifts both as our understanding of the content grows, and as we acquire new gear which did not exist during the content's design and release period.

Weeklies have always been part of the game.... as far back as CoP. Now if you didnt find those pieces of content rewarding or engaging enough to do, that's up to you, but they were certainly there.
ENM's, bi weekly Dyna, Exp quests, Eco Warrior, so on.
The better argument is that Weeklies are more FOMO than ever before, as of the past few years.
By K123 2025-12-11 14:57:50
Dyna was end game content. I never bothered with the rest but I mean the kinda weeklies and monthlies you have in RoE that FOMO you for silver vouchers etc. yes. A far different game.

I guess if you started in 2011 you might think the "grind" is the same now. Lets compare apples to apples as best we can.
The most "elite" endgame item is now a Prime weapon, and it could take you 6 months of 1 hour daily grind to get one for yourself AND one for each of your group members.
The most "elite" endgame items in the golden era were Relic and Mythic weapons. I can't even calculate for you how many days/hours it took for a full group of people to grind ONE of those weapons for ONE player in the group.
There is no comparison. Today's FFXI is incalculably less grind-y than the original game. Personally, I don't care one way or the other. Either you enjoy the experience the game has to offer, or you do not.

As much as I hate the Sortie/Prime grind, it's still considerably more fair than the 75-cap mythic/relic grinds. That whole design was just stupid, I don't know how they thought that was going to end up being anything other than a dramafest. The idea of getting 18 people to do content regularly for a long time so one person could get a weapon is wild.
What was the timeline for relics then, I forget? 1-1.5yrs?
What we have now is still a grind, it's just a massively fairer one.
