Former Bush official warns against serving in Trump admin
CNN

Quote:
A former George W. Bush administration official who once encouraged recalcitrant Republicans to serve in the incoming Trump administration is now issuing a warning against getting on board, cautioning that those Republicans "would probably have to make excuses for things that are inexcusable and defend people who are indefensible."
Eliot Cohen, who served as a State Department counselor from 2007 to 2009, wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post published Tuesday explaining why he had changed his mind after engaging with the Trump transition team.

Earlier Tuesday, he had tweeted: "After exchange w Trump transition team, changed my recommendation: stay away. They're angry, arrogant, screaming "you LOST!" Will be ugly."

Cohen, part of the #NeverTrump conservative coterie, recounted his experience working with a friend on Trump's transition team -- despite his personal opposition to Trump, Cohen had still hoped to discreetly "steer good people to an administration that understandably wanted nothing to do with the likes of me."
But Cohen explained that a contentious exchange led to his friend "seething with anger directed at those of us who had opposed Donald Trump," and that "the episode has caused me to change my mind about recommending that conservatives serve in the administration."
"This was a tipping point. The tenor of the Trump team, from everything I see, read and hear, is such that, for a garden-variety Republican policy specialist, service in the early phase of the administration would carry a high risk of compromising one's integrity and reputation."
"In a normal transition to a normal administration, there's always disorder," Cohen wrote, but "this time may be different. Trump was not a normal candidate, the transition is not a normal transition, and this will probably not be a normal administration."
Cohen savaged the team assembled around Trump -- "The President-elect is surrounding himself with mediocrities whose chief qualification seems to be unquestioning loyalty" -- and argued that "by all accounts, (Trump's) ignorance, and that of his entourage, about the executive branch is fathomless."
The former Bush official warned that as a result of the disarray and the people involved, "their mistakes -- because there will be mistakes -- will be exceptional," and that the new administration "will smash into crises and failures"
"My bottom line: Conservative political types should not volunteer to serve in this administration, at least for now," Cohen wrote. "They would probably have to make excuses for things that are inexcusable and defend people who are indefensible. At the very least, they should wait to see who gets the top jobs."
"I hope that I am wrong. I hope that the administration will settle down and that I can cheer it when it is right and offer temperate criticisms when it is wrong. But the auspices here are disturbing."

They also forgot to mention that anyone even considered will be under the microscope, being publicly bashed for having diarrhea during a national anthem playing at their child's football game and had to go to the bathroom at that time, being called unpatriotic and then declaring treasonous behavior for having the shits at the wrong time.

All the while, ignoring how Rep. Keith Ellison, a person who openly supports anti-Semitic messages and also a proud supporter of the racist group Nation of Islam, will receive very little press scrutiny for his nomination as the head of the DNC.

Nope, no double standard here folks, just move right along, and don't forget to pick up the latest book Media and the progressive left is right about everything, better get used to it on the way out.

Crying about "double standards" doesn't change the facts about the current dysfunction going on in Trump Tower today. Connected to Chris Christie? You're fired. Lobbyist? Fired. What time is it? 3 AM? Time to go on a twitter rant at the NY Times again. What do you mean their stock has gone up since the election? You're fired for saying that.

Well, at least you admitted about the double standards in media.

Progress.

I guess you missed the quotation marks, but that's not surprising. Cohen is just echoing what I said yesterday, nobody wants any part of this administration.

Don't worry, neither you nor him will be offered a position there.

Unless it's janitorial, that is. You are more than welcome to clean up ***all day.

My favorite unhinged meme of the day.

Trump didn't tell the media he was going to dinner so his presidency will be all cloak and dagger.

Seriously, this is starting to get sad.

Exactly. The president elect decides to go off and eat without a cadre of press following him around (
which, btw, has been so nice to him
), and suddenly he's the least transparent president ever.

The solution? Everyone gets their way! I can't wait until my daughter grows up and gets crowned as the prom queen... along with the 317 other girls there. Well, no, wait.... By then it'll be "prom person", as gender-based titles and titles that imply royalty will be politically incorrect. But still, It'll bring a tear to my eye.

Let's not forget to force lottery systems to make everyone a winner.

And today's lottery drawing, from a total of 1 ball, with the number 1 on it, is........

*drumroll*

2! ....OMG I TOTALLY WON AND DID NOT RIG THIS DRAWING AND YOU CAN'T PROVE IT!!!

...wait, where was I going with this again?

There's a reason why he isn't taken more seriously.

Mainly, he is just as bad as the MSM when it comes to posting videos of his political views, if not worse

And most of those videos are really either conspiracy theories or just blatant misinformation.

Sorry, I would stick with the Galka Mayo *** that MSM provides. At least their political commentary starts out with facts before the massage the message to the point of irrelevance. You can always pick out the fluff from the story.

There's a video out there of a Young Turks guy losing his mind and shouting at Alex Jones after the Republican convention (Alex Jones implied someone in YT was a jihadist, and so another YT guy made a comment about Alex Jones and lizardmen, and shouting ensued). I'd be down losing the MSM if it meant a continuous gang war among the lunatics at YT and Infowars, because at least that would be highly entertaining.

It almost seems counterproductive though because as president we're not getting Donald, the man. We're getting DONALD, the Public Ego.

True.

However, we don't know what exactly Donald, the Public Ego, is all about.

He may be a copy of the real Donald, but then again, he could also be Hitler 2.0.

I honestly don't think we will get either extreme, though.

Yeah, we'll see I guess.

I completely understand why minorities, LGBT folks, and Muslims are panicking even though there's really nothing solid to panic about yet. It's a really scary prospect potentially having your entire life change. And whether his supporters who think they're entirely reasonable want to admit it or not, the fact is that if you talk about a national registry of all people of a certain religion, you are channeling Adolf Hitler. You just are. There are no two ways about it. The twentieth century happened and it can't be -- frankly, must not be -- forgotten.

I'm not 100% clear of said anxieties myself, given I feel like even being a quiet atheist means you're simply the "last against the wall once the revolution comes vs. the first." To paraphrase Douglas Adams.

But I'm willing to try to help temper said anxieties and convince people not to do anything stupid. People on both sides of the fence, frankly. I'd like to think no one here would stand idly by and see people's human rights violated right in front of them or, Altana forefend, actually being the one doing the violating.
