Your well founded in your belief at any moment those " trusted" custodians you call banks can bar their doors and windows and close up taking with them your money you entrusted to them.
I'm not a fan of banks myself in fact some of my policy's will cut out the middleman that is banks that the public use to cash their checks too.
I believe Americans should get paid cash at their work places like they use too by there company accountant bankers to get rid of the service fees of 3rd party banks and gives them the choice of considering if they really want to trust their hard earned money to thieves who got a banking charter to direct deposit too.
It's like you're blissfully ignorant of anything that's happened since 1830 or so. It's almost adorable.

Businesses issue checks to other businesses for payment of goods/services. ACH payments only happen for companies who have recurring timely payments of equal amounts (such as rent). Some instances for amounts of various sizes, but constant time.
But you can't issue an ACH for payments that do not reoccur, such as paying the plumber for fixing the toilet from last night's Taco Bell splurge. And ACH doesn't exist for consumer to consumer.

It's too bad I'm an upstanding, law-abiding citizen. Because that's a bunch of free money walking around if I were willing to get into armed robbery.

i never said i would make it illegal you jump to too many of your own conclusions money and checks are not going away.
just central banking you know your favorite banking system that destroys nations economies and devalues the citizens currency and causes inflation on goods making them more expensive for the citizens every few years.
Just as a side note that "low" end Winchester 73 at 40 dollars is almost 900 dollars in today's money. Just about what a Medium AR might cost you today.
now its like 200- 400,000 for some good hardware that's still legal to use and own
