Random Politics & Religion #01
I don't think fully autonomous cars are the future. I'm sure that cars with an over abundance of computer regulation and safety features(idiot proofing) are in the future. They're kind of here now. No one really seems to want to focus on driving, hence all the media about fatal texting and driving etc.
The thing is, is the cost. That's the reason I don't see them(fully automated cars) being the future. To get a car with the works, you pretty much have to be rich or be willing to go into debt when you take out a loan on the down payment. I know a lot of jack offs do this with cars anyways and pretty much always have, either out of necessity or for kicks. I just mean, that even as cars like this become more normal or get more allowances for testing and such, the cost isn't going to suddenly plummet to where the average joe can afford one. Even when selling to the mass market becomes a thing, they won't be able to not put in pedals and a wheel. Not because they suddenly careen out of control, but because if their systems fail while you're out somewhere, but the car engine and rest of the car work fine, it wouldn't make much sense to not be able to just drive away by yourself. Not so inconvenient in a city setting, but out in the rural countryside, that would be hellish. "Oh yeah, honey, could you get in our other car and come get me? My car glitched, and it won't start back up." - then the unlikely, but possible scenario, "Welp, I guess both of us are stuck out here, 20 miles from home, 40 miles from a city." or even better, "Honey, our first car glitched, so I activated our second to come get me, and it glitched and got stuck inbetween the routes. I don't know where it is exactly. lol" Heck, Tow Trucks, while possible to automate, would not be fully automated because of such a possibility. As awesome and orderly as it would be to have a fully automated roadway, I just don't see the human element ever being completely removed. If there's one thing people like, it's having control over their own possessions. Ever watch irobot with will smith? Never would want to drive if everything else was autonomous.
How about autonomous tractors Alti?
I know you aren't into row crops but do you make hay? YouTube Video Placeholder YouTube Video Placeholder YouTube Video Placeholder Imagine your existing tractors performing repetitive, time-consuming tasks, leaving you time to manage your operations. With ATC's technology you can have lower equipment costs, lower operating costs and higher yields Lawnmowers too. The TANGO E5 is designed to maintain your lawn automatically meaning you can enjoy the more important aspects of life. Designed, innovated and built by John Deere to its highest manufacturing standards, the TANGO E5 autonomous mower sets a new benchmark in lawn maintenance. I can't wait for the inevitable AI wars. Google vs Bing, nobody will survive.

That's about the same as the airplane argument. And if I could afford one of those tractors I would rather just retire completely. Jetackuu said: » I can't wait for the inevitable AI wars. And it isn't the same as the airplane argument. There is little in a field to hit nor are there roads. There are many other planes in the sky as well as carefully marked out ... call them highways. Obama Is More Popular Than the Presidential Candidates, Poll Shows
New poll findings may boost his influence in November. Time, reprinted in and copied from Fortune. Quote: A new poll shows that President Barack Obama’s approval rating has increased and he is viewed more favorably than any of the presidential candidates, which could boost his influence on November’s general election. For the first time since 2013, half of those surveyed said they approve of what Obama is doing in office, according to the Associated Press-GfK poll. Approval ratings increased for issues including foreign affairs, immigration and the economy. People were slightly more optimistic about their financial situations and Obama’s leadership of the economy, the AP reported, but 54% still characterized the economy as poor. The survey also found that 53% of respondents had a favorable view of Obama, more than any of the presidential candidates. Democrat Bernie Sanders was next with 48% favorability, followed by Democrat Hillary Clinton (40%) and Republican John Kasich (34%). Republicans Ted Cruz and Donald Trump were tied with 26% favorability. If his higher approval rating lasts, it could make Obama a significant influence in the general election and provide a helpful boost for Democrats and the eventual party nominee. The poll, conducted online between March 31 and April 4, surveyed 1,076 adults and had a margin of error of 3.3 percentage points. Sanders won Wyoming, gaining a whole ONE delegate over Clinton lol. That's sure to make the difference in their run!
If he somehow pulls off a win I'll have to eat my hat.
Metaphorically speaking. Bismarck.Josiahfk said: » Jetackuu said: » If he somehow pulls off a win I'll have to eat my hat. Metaphorically speaking. I'm still waiting for all of those people to who promised to move to Canada when [insert president here] was elected to actually go. No it's more of that I've had the conversation with somebody that I didn't think he had a chance in winning the election. I'll never hear the end of it. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I dislike him (well I dislike him the least of those that are running) but just that I was (and still am) doubtful of his chances for winning the main election.
He isn't going to win New York or California so he isn't going to be nominated. Your hat is safe.

The technology will speak for itself, and has; given how many hours google has on the road versus how many serious or light accidents they've had. I was unaware airplanes had hundreds of other airplanes flown by idiots that shouldn't be in the air in the first place... But that isn't my question, that you are both avoiding. Altimaomega said: » Once one of these cars causes a 5-100 car pile up on an interstate where people are diving 75mph-100mph. How many lawsuits until they are scrapped? It's not like it is the drivers fault and until now it would have been nonsensical to sue ford or dodge when one of their vehicles got in an accident. But with something like Google software of w/e the AI comes from they are the ones responsible now and are going to be liable for literally millions if not billions of dollars in lawsuits. When you get on an airplane I am guessing you sign a liability waiver. I know they get sued anyways when they go down.. I know I've never signed anything saying I am okay with an autonomous anything in the same lane with me. It's one thing when it is a person, they have the same rights to the road I do. But when you start passing off responsibility onto AI from some company that really does change everything. I'm surprised this has not come up anywhere. The comparison to airplanes is stupid because airplanes still have manual controls and there are two pilots in the aircraft. Autopilot is nice but pilots are still present and monitor the flight path to ensure no collisions happen. The auto-landing feature only works at certain airports where they have compatible beacons installed on the runways, otherwise the pilots manually land the aircraft. Auto-drive for cars is already a possibility and is used in some high end luxury cars. The car has motion sensors and radars installed all around it and the computer can detect the presence of other cars and avoid collisions with them while following the road. It works very well on highways but a driver is still required to be in the car for the same reasons a pilot is required to be in an aircraft. The human is a safety layer, there to make judgement calls on whether the auto-drive is safe or not. If something happens, the human bears the responsibility.
