nobody mistakes it for news, and don't pretend they do. Lakshmi.Sparthosx said: »What in that 8min clip was a lie? Well Jassik, Sparth just proved you wrong.
How dishonest.
You make a claim that because it's Comedy Central the statements presented must discarded because they're coming out of the mouth of a comedian rather than a news anchor. Yet you haven't actually pointed out where Comedy Central out and out lied about anything.
The Daily Show isn't legitimate news but that doesn't mean anything in that link was a lie.

The Daily Show isn't legitimate news but that doesn't mean anything in that link was a lie. You are right, I discarded the source because of what it is. They may not outright lie, but they do present their "facts" in a very dishonest way. And the problem is, people use this source as "news." Which you did, which Zeig did too. Or at least insinuated.

If "Fox News" is considered news, than The Daily Show is just as legitimate, hell if not more.

Hate to break it to you, but that's not a newscast. You shouldn't believe anything that comes from a channel called Comedy Central... I presume you mean if it's not a newscast, it doesn't belong in the thread?
You can report it and have it removed if mods agree with you. It's not that, it's that you shouldn't mistake The Daily Show as "news."
It is about as accurate as Brian Williams. Oh, so it's that. Don't worry, I don't. Presenation matters and all. I just thought it was funny.

Comedy Central > Fox News.
Except for the women on Fox... Where do they get them from?
I'll pay way more for one of them to lie to me and tell me they love me.

Damn, looks like a lot of people are mistaking "The Daily Show" for news. Go figure. When I was a kid we had news as documentary.
Later we had news as drama.
Now we have news as entertainment.
News as comedy is a natural outgrowth of that. News as comedy was predicted by Philip K. *** BTW.
Quote: At least one brilliant prediction came from Philip K. ***, who wrote a few short stories in the 1960s that presaged today’s morphing of a lot of broadcast journalism into execrable infotainment. He invented a character named Jim-Jam Briskin, whose job title was “news clown” – a man who would take to the airwaves wearing greasepaint and a funny wig and, under the guise of a newscast, wisecrack about current events.

No, it's the part where they are the only source that ignores facts to push their bias. Really it's just the one people mentioned.

No, but it's one of the most egregious offenders and doubly so when you try to pass yourself off as "fair and balanced".
Cmon.

You think I don't know RT is biased? Or Xinhua? Or MSNBC? Or The Young Turks? Or the Christian Science Monitor? I mean seriously, you're not blowing anyones mind here.
FOX is off the charts on how biased it is pretending to be legitimate "balanced" news. You can feels all the way through the MSNBC primetime lineup and walk out knowing that they all know they're leaning left. The gooddamn slogan is "Lean Forward" afterall.

You know, I think I actually trust the Daily Show more than traditional outlets for this reason and this reason only: they're honest about their spin. You're never under any illusions that this is meant to be impartial or honest.
If nothing else, it gives a good starting point to reading about things more in-depth, from more reliable sources (whatever one deems those to be).

PBS is probably one of the most balanced news programs but it's actually to the point and so most people want nothing to do with it.
Now back to you with Chris Matthews yelling down his 'guest' for 10minutes. What did I learn, you ask? That Chris Matthews changes colors.

They're the only major news outlet that is shown over and over to blatantly ignore factual corrections and continue to push the same incredulous stories day after day. The stupid India trip is a great example. 4 days after every single credible source retracted the story, fox was still running with it on all its segments.

So if it's all agenda driven, why is it a valid source for information again?

Didn't you learn that in partisan school?

Who says I agree with the agenda? You don't have to agree with the jokes to find them funny.
Of course it's not a valid source of news. What it is, is a valid source of topics, which can be used to do more research on one's own, and have a laugh in the process. I don't really follow the news very closely these days for a number of reasons, but TDS was always good at giving a list of "here's some things you might want to look into".

What it is, is a valid source of topics, which can be used to do more research on one's own You know that requires effort, which most people lack.
We both know that there are people who would use The Daily Show as a source and use it as their actual source of news, even though it is highly partisan (for the sake of humor) in it's "reporting."
Those are the people who are the most misinformed.
Not saying that you follow this pattern, just making an overall statement.

Ok so you agree that it's only pushing a agenda, packaging it with humor to make it palatable, but it's a good source for topics that aren't partisan and part of that agenda?
Wat?

The Donald chickens out!!
Cirque du Trump
He was supposed to face tough questions from Hispanic business leaders in Washington on Thursday. Instead, Donald Trump went to Vegas.
Politico.
Too long to copypasta in full, openers:
Quote: LAS VEGAS — Donald Trump had been scheduled to answer questions before the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in Washington on Thursday.
Instead he retreated here, to his comfort zone — Cirque du Soleil’s Mystère Theatre at Treasure Island Hotel and Casino on the strip — and put on a show.
Trump mixed in his signature wisecracks and insults with a hefty dose of audience participation, asking supporters to call out the names of countries taking advantage of the United States and inviting a woman with a fire-red dye job to stand and be recognized, as he gushed, “I wish I had that hair.”
At one point, as Trump complained about the appearance of his nose on a recent People Magazine cover, a woman seated in the front row waved a copy of the magazine.
Trump pulled the woman, who identified herself as Hispanic, on stage, and the crowd of 1,600 cheered as she proclaimed her support for the Republican pack leader.
“Is this a set-up? Did I ever meet you before?” said Trump. “I never met her before. I swear.” (He did not then proceed to saw her in half.)
Though Trump’s candidacy has thrived on conflict, he pulled out of the Hispanic Chamber event last Friday, a day after POLITICO reported on the tough line of questioning the group’s leaders had planned for him there, and announced plans for a rally here.

Trump threatens to walk, CNBC folds.
CNBC agrees to Trump demand for two-hour debate
CNN
Quote: CNBC has agreed to limit its forthcoming Republican primary debate to two hours and allow for opening and/or closing statements, acquiescing to the demands of Donald Trump and other GOP campaigns, CNN has confirmed.
The Republican National Committee began calling the campaigns on Friday morning to inform them that CNBC had agreed in principal to limit the debate to two hours, including commercials, and to allow for opening and/or closing statements, according to two sources with knowledge of the decision.
"They said those conditions are 'all but certain'," as they still needed all the campaigns to sign off on the new format, a source with one of the campaigns told CNN.
RNC spokesperson Sean Spicer told CNN, "We are having an ongoing conversation with CNBC and the candidates" and that the final format should be determined soon.
The move comes after Trump and Ben Carson threatened to pull out of the faceoff in Boulder, Colorado, if the hosts didn't agree to their demands.
In a letter to CNBC, the two candidates said they would not participate "if it is longer than 120 minutes, including commercials, and does not include opening and closing statements." There is more but that's the gist of it.

Donald Trump maintains lead over GOP field: NBC-WSJ poll
Quote: Donald Trump hasn't fallen yet in the 2016 Republican presidential race.
The new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll shows the billionaire real estate mogul still leading all GOP rivals with 25 percent of the vote. In September, he drew 21 percent. That change falls within 4.9 percent margin for error in the survey of 400 Republican primary voters.
As in September, the October poll showed former neurosurgeon Ben Carson in second place with 22 percent. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida ranked third with 13 percent, ahead of Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas with 9 percent and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush with 8 percent. Trailing behind were former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina with 7 percent, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Ohio Gov. John Kasich with 3 percent, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky with 2 percent and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie with 1 percent.
When considering the various candidates' potential for expanding their support, the poll tells a different story. When Republican voters are asked to name their second choice in the race, 22 percent name Carson, compared with 14 percent for Trump, 13 percent for Rubio and 10 percent for Fiorina.
Thus if candidates are ranked by the combination of voters naming them either first or second, Carson draws 44 percent to Trump's 39 percent, Rubio's 26 percent and Fiorina's 18 percent.
Using another measure, 74 percent of all Republican voters allow for the possibility that they could support Carson. Some 65 percent say the same of Rubio, 59 percent of Trump, 56 percent of Fiorina and 51 percent for Bush.
At a time of turmoil in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, some 63 percent of GOP primary voters say they'd feel "comfortable and positive" if Ways and Means Committee Chairman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin took over as speaker. The current speaker, John Boehner, has announced he'll leave the job soon amid opposition from conservative hard-liners. Those hard-liners also forced majority leader Kevin McCarthy of California to abandon his bid for the speakership.
Some 28 percent of Republicans said they'd feel "skeptical and uncertain" about Ryan holding the top job in the House. Ryan, the party's 2012 vice-presidential nominee, has not said whether he'll seek the speakership. CNBC

Quote: US TV network NBC is cutting ties with Donald Trump over "recent derogatory statements" that the veteran businessman made about immigrants.
NBC said the company would now not be airing the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants that are co-owned by Mr Trump.
Responding to the announcement, Mr Trump said he would consider suing NBC.
Earlier this month, he accused Mexicans of adding drugs and crime to the US as he announced he was seeking the Republican presidential nomination.
"They're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists, and some I assume are good people, but I speak to border guards, and they tell us what we are getting," he said in his speech on 16 June.
He also pledged to build a "great wall" on the US border with Mexico and insisted it would be paid for by Mexicans.
He later insisted he was criticising US lawmakers, not Mexican people. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-33321290
I'm honestly surprised with some of the shit he says. Even though I probably shouldn't be.
