If only those students cared about something important like graduating in 4 years and not bitching in 4 mins !
Zackan said: » After reading that article you linked... sounds to me like a student who just likes making the news.... "I am going to go to this Christian University when I have other choices available, upon accepting to be a student I have to sign this Waiver that States I HAVE TO attend Convocation. After I am accepted I will then proceed to ignore that Waiver I signed and protest having to attend Convocation. Also I will protest things that are clearly the school and the majority of students stance such as doing Pro Abortion protests!" yah, that student is an idiot It's not the same student. Bolded: Funny coming from someone who thinks it's ok for a politician to make a televised campaign speech at a university where students were required to attend in the thousands. Offline

Bahamut.Kara said: » Zackan said: » OMG 10 dollars! and you get 4 reprimands AND the fine for missing ONE meeting? Are you sure that is not 4 reprimands THEN a fine? As in you can miss 4 meetings(which goes in line with my schools requirement of 15/19 required sessions) If i hated Ted Cruz THAT MUCH i would pay 10 bucks just NOT to see him! Requiring attendence of students for a political campaign speech is disgusting. It would be disgusting from any canidate. Whether the majority of students like him or not it goes against political freedom. Going to a private school does not mean you give up political freedom. As to the reprimands and fine you can click the link Quote: I strongly object to Senator Cruz's choice of venue for the announcement of his 2016 presidential bid: as is well-known by Liberty University students but considerably less well-known by the general public, all students are required to attend convocation every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Sen. Cruz is a friend of the Liberty University administration and has spoken at convocation in the past. As such, he knows that all students are required to be in attendance. I bear no ill will toward Sen. Cruz, but his choice to announce his 2016 presidential bid at convocation at Liberty University is a starkly deceptive one. Should the general public be unaware that all students are required to attend convocation, it would seem to the average viewer (as this will be televised and is already being widely publicized) that 10,000 supporters came to Liberty University to hear Sen. Cruz's announcement. However, every student in attendance has no say in the matter. Students will either attend convocation and lend to the illusion of widespread support for Sen. Cruz, or they will be subject to administrative punishment--specifically, four reprimands and a $10 fine--if they are absent. While Sen. Cruz has every right to run for president and to announce his candidacy, it is a highly deceptive, albeit politically savvy, move on Sen. Cruz's part to make his big announcement here. I do not support this action, and I am not alone in my belief that such deception is wrong. You apparently missed my edit, oh well. Why are you so cynical? IF Hilary Clinton came to talk, if I could manage it I would skip out. Or since I am interested in politics I would probably stay and listen. I may post something about it to my Facebook(or on here) but the language of my post would be how I feel about her, not the simple fact I had to sit through it. Only 30% came out to vote this last election... more people need to be aware of the field. People listened to Ted Cruz now they have an opinion, be it good or ill, at least it is AN OPINION that is not based on hearsay Offline

I've haven't seen this much bitching about a non issue since I asked a feminist "What patriarchy ? "
Well, republicans have at least one thing over democrats. They get to pick which corporate sellout they get to vote for.

Yes I do believe it is ok, If Hilary Clinton came to my school I would sit through it without complaining! Shiva.Onorgul said: » Sylph.Safiyyah said: » Cruz can do a lot of damage to the Scott Walkers and Jeb Bushes of the GOP during the primaries. He's very popular with the base, where Walker is middling, and Bush is unpopular. Cruz isn't likely to make it through the primary, but he's a bulldog, smart, and totally ruthless. Only Rand Paul will occupy *some* positions to the right of Cruz, in all likelihood, so he'll have a conservative ideological edge over most of the field. None of these guys can win a general election after going through the far right circus that is the Republican primary, of course. That's why I'm surprised to see legitimate candidates like Cruz, Walker, and Bush preparing their campaigns. Cruz is young enough to wait out 8 years of Hillary. Paul Ryan has made that choice, and I think it's the right one. I question how palatable social conservatism will be in 8 years, when the country is already center-left on social issues, but I guess we'll see. The primary is going to end up killing off most of the popular candidates (if you actually like someone like Ted Cruz, I mean) and will drag the eventual winner deep into the "Do as we say and remember that we know where your wife and kids are" territory of the power-obsessed oligarchs. It's not even unheard of for Democrats to actively promote people like Ted Cruz exactly because a.) his candidacy will weaken others' and b.) he's unlikely to win the general election. That's some wonderful and sensible politics right there: rather than field a candidate and platform that makes sense, just *** over the competition so that no one is happy. You are right, of course. In an ideal world, candidates would run on the strength of their policies, and we would choose the one that most aligned with our beliefs. In the real world, the best you can hope for is that the other side fields a weak candidate. Personally I'd love to see Rand Paul get the GOP nomination. He is left of Hillary on certain issues. It would be interesting to see Clinton argue for the military-industrial complex during debates with Paul. He can make her look silly on that subject. If Paul doesn't run, I'm concerned that Hillary will be another center-right Democratic president... she's going to run unopposed or without any significant liberal challenger in the Democratic primary to pull her leftward. The fact that Hillary is pretty much a shoe-in for president is just bad for America. Our political system isn't working very well. When Hillary wins, four of the last five presidents will belong to two families! Yuck. In large part I blame the GOP. There are really solid Republicans out there. But they get no traction and the GOP runs far-right candidates who can't win a general election, or ruin their moderates in the primary process with far-right insanity. Offline

Was it televised? I think you might be able to make an argument against being required to attend something that would be televised. Especially if special accommodations were not made available to people that did not want to appear on camera/film.
Then again, delicious irony of someone claiming the constitution "feels" the way they do, and yet students should pay a fine in order to not attend a political speech made mandatory via a "chapel" requirement is AWESOME. Citing his own school's attendance system as some kind of basis for comparison is equally breathtaking! Carry on! I sat through a taping of the Daily Show with Nancy Pelosi as the guest.

Why would I not be able to use my own school's system to compare? Yes it is not the Same, but there are enough similarities to allow for comparison. like chaosx says, suck it up and drive on Offline

The only thing that bothered me was her clanking of bracelets on his desk.
This was the interview I sat through: http://thedailyshow.cc.com/videos/wxwr17/nancy-pelosi
Doesn't matter that *name removed* paid for my airline ticket out there. It was a taping I signed up for in advance. Listen to her bracelets clank within a minute, lol.

Simply put, the fact that I'm happy to be forced to read moronic political ideologies on FFXIAH does not mean that others should be forced to do so. Don't attend a Christian college then.

That doesn't answer the question.
Even though I opt to read the comments and threads here, I habitually don't even process anything written by fonewear or Lordgrim. Zackan is finding his way into that group and I'm about 70% blind to Chaosx. What could possibly force you to read something? |
