State-sponsored unions?
Leviathan.Protey said: » as typical of right leaning people, I am hard working, dependable, and responsible. It doesn't matter which side of the political spectrum you are on, there are hard working, dependable, and responsible people period. It is a common misconception that only the <insert whichever side of the political spectrum you are on> are the hardest working, most dependable, and most responsible people there is, and that's an outright lie. Because we are humans who are generally have different personalities, and work ethics is not connected one bit with political viewpoints. Basically being in a union is like being a hippie ! Hold signs sing songs fight power etc !
Most people aren't a big fan of being forced to pay union dues but I bet they're all pretty happy to benefit from the agreements they've worked out for em.

I'd like to ask all the "unhappy" people who are in positions with mandatory union membership how they feel about loss of wages and loss of benefits, because that's practically guaranteed without collective bargaining. I'm sorry, but I simply cannot justify that being treated like garbage for a pittance is better than being unemployed. It basically says to people that you don't value yourself, so why should they? Go back a few pages to the Irish example Ono gave. That is spot-on why taking "what you can get" isn't always the best thing for you and others like you, despite the fact we've been raised to think that it is. If anyone ever needed to see proof you feel entitled, here it is. You should truly feel lucky. You live embraced by a political party who fosters your sense of entitlement just so you'll vote for them in elections. Offline

It's cute you chose just to come and chime in with your normal rhetoric and buzzwords again. Edit: Also, if you've paid attention to anything I've written in this thread, you'll know I do just fine working for my money and am properly compensated as such at this time, and I did debase myself working for the scum of the Earth for years before I managed to get out of there. Unless you've had to make the decision to swallow your pride and do the ***-work you're massively over-qualified to do for a fraction of your worth, Nausi, you are in no position to even speak on this subject. I wish I had known what I was entitled to a hell of a lot sooner. I didn't value myself enough to realize that the "American work ethic" instilled in me is just another form of control exerted by those with money and power to keep you doing the ***work. Shall I play the same game I did with Ono a couple weeks back where you name 1 company who does <insert your argument> and I'll name 3 companies who do not do <insert your argument>? Because I promise you that your list will run out a whole lot faster than mine will. Seraph.Ramyrez said: » Go back a few pages to the Irish example Ono gave. I promise you that no company is going to regress back to the old-style of managing when it comes to their workers (again, except for a select few, and only because of their business structure, and they are already embedded in that philosophy) and wages. Nearly all manufacturing companies pay their people a wage reasonable for the skills they provide. All of those manufacturing companies even educate their employees to positions that are suited for more advanced skills. If you don't believe me, go look at a random manufacturer's website, and look at what they are paying for labor. That I would have a list at all is justification for these needed protections. I can detect union people a mile away. They're usually hardcore liberal, but don't you dare touch their money or benefits to give to the poor.
Hypocrites at best. Want to know how to get rid of that one person? Don't work for him. Leviathan.Chaosx said: » but don't you dare touch their money or benefits to give to the poor. There are people, at least in the case of Walmart, who have practically no choice but to go there, as it's the only place to get certain things. Because Walmart's driven everyone else out. If I was gungho about helping them, I'd do it myself. Seraph.Ramyrez said: » Ragnarok.Nausi said: » If anyone ever needed to see proof you feel entitled, here it is. You should truly feel lucky. People's expectation of their value is often disproportionate to their actual value for what they do. Just because you can be worth 1 million to X doesn't mean you are worth 1 million to Y. Ever see Pawn stars? When the expert comes in and tells them that their penny is worth 10k, they immediately ask the shop for 10k. You're that guy. Don't take personal responsibility for not having a job anymore! Blame the unions! Considering that unions only take up around 6% of the employment pool in the private sector... It's more of a problem for the public sector because of the shitty deals politicians have brokered over the years and their inability to properly plan and pay for them. They'll most likely be out of office when the bill is due anyways soo... The work force that belongs to a union isn't all that much different in terms of production. The biggest problem I have with unions though is that they refuse to get rid of the bad seeds in their organizations. It's always big corporations that donate money to charities and such.
