I think the worse thing about this book/movie is it gives feminists a chance to try to make this book sound intelligent.
Feminists hate this stuff. For the same reasons I do, actually.

It's not "kink". It's not "consensual BDSM". That could, in fact, be sexy for many people and I'd understand that. I'm all about erotic literature if that's your thing. I encourage people to pursue their sexual interests. But that's not what it is. It's about psychological and physical abuse. And that's before we even get to how *** awful it is as a piece of literature. Even if you cast aside the content, it's a trainwreck of grammar and syntax. It's seriously *** terrible. Forget just children. That crap isn't suitable for anyone. "My rectum puckered at the thought of explaining once again that Obama has no control over global oil prices."

They should have made the book set during the Cold War and she has to sleep with commie fascists.
That is a book I would read. fonewear said: » They should have made the book set during the Cold War and she has to sleep with commie fascists. Offline

Frankly these books should be detested by anyone who respects women, let alone identifies as a feminist. Offline

Specific links? Probably not.
I just remember reading that local feminist groups in my city (from different newspapers) were lauding the author for her writing, being a female author, and writing a book with a female "protagonist". This was a few years ago when the book had recently gained popularity among the 40 something housewives it was targeted at. Offline

Frankly these books should be detested by everyone because it is a horribly written piece of garbage. Fifty Shades fulfills that fantasy of being beaten, abused and violated by a successful rich guy.
Just wait till America realizes it's already being beaten, abused and violated by rich guys on a daily basis! Lets get political, baby. IT'S A LOVESTORY GAWD! Yeah, ok, still erotic. I was sort of curious of the narrative since everyone makes a big deal out of it(but should expect it's just out of the common prudeness society bathes in), but after reading the quotes on the previous page...lol, I'll pass. Fifty shades of Hillary a cautionary tale of love lust and international diplomacy ?
Funny enough at my job, the Fifty Shades series almost always has....questionable stains and creases between the pages.
The romance novels similarly have seen some abuse. But hey, who am I to stop the ladies from having a good time? Just keep your sticky fingers off the books. People have to touch them later! Well this thread quickly devolved lol.

I find it laughable that the author 'researched it', I would argue that the relationship+physical+emotional nuances of BDSM is only something you can understand until you experience it in some form firsthand. It varies wildly by the person or couple, etc walls of text could not begin to explain it. Anyways as ramyrez pointed out, FSOG is just a badly written garbage book about an abusive relationship. |
