Everytime I boot up FFXI (Through Steam) I keep getting a DirectPlay thing pop up just before the game starts, this keeps crashing my laptop. Any ideas??

If Windows8, try going to the control panel>program and features>Turn windows features on or off>Legacy components>directplay and ticking the box . If that doesn't work wait for someone smarter to come along.

Do you also play with Windower or just through Steam?

Edit: I only ask because changing display options in Windower made it so that I couldn't open up the regular FFXI anymore without getting a DirectPlay error. Changing the settings back might help.
