Is the concept of something dying out really that hard for some of you to fathom?

"Oh but the EQ servers are still up, that game is alive and kicking OP!!! You're wrong!!! It's not dead!!! It's not dead if at least one person is online!!!"

***'s old. I've never seen so many people in denial and defensive over a video game's decline quite like this one.

On one hand, the population keeps dropping with no indication it'll ever go back up.

On the other, people like this are so upset they couldn't have fun/get things done that they lurk for years just to try to discourage others from having fun/getting things done.

If it's important enough to you to hang around this long, obviously there's a pretty large pool of interested people to return.

I don't think XI is dead, but I feel like the battle system hit it's limit long time ago and they can't fix it.

FFXIV has been dead since the start. Oddly, I remember XI dying because XIV was coming out.

Lakshmi probably has half that number of active NA players because we drop to ~500 during NA primetime and you have to figure each server has a substantial portion of AFK JPs.

FFXI isn't dead, dying, or on life support, it's just being hindered by PS2.

I've never claimed to be a computer expert, but I would hazard a guess that any program linked to a fourteen year old system (released March 2000) will stagnate eventually.

Lakshmi is very bad. I would transfer back to Levia or Asura with my whole linkshell right now if they want to.

Didn't they cut PS2 from support?

My understanding was they only cut it for NA, JP still has it, correct me if I'm mistaken.

That reminds me. I find it kind of annoying that there's all these neat exclusive vanity items and whatnot but are left to some lame window of expiration or exclusivity. If SE really wanted to do everything in their power to keep that IV pumping in FFXI's veins, they'd at least let us pretty ourselves up as much as we've always wanted to, so to speak.

Let me have a way to purchase the airship model or timepiece without having to have someone new start the game and play for a year with a gold world pass. Or something to that extent.

I think you just need an active LS to ignore the crappy server count. Cerberus barely pushes 400 and I'm sure 1/4 is afk in jeuno. But we try and always keep something going on in my LS, if it's delve, ADL, or getting people little stuff they need :)

It's not what it used to be for sure, but it's still fun if you have the right people... which is always how FFXI has been.

Maybe we can organize a delve, get a brd a 99 instrument, huh? What don't we try that>

Organize delve. Done.
Get a 99 instrument. Also done.

Personally, I still think opening pre-Seekers and pre-Abyssea servers would grab them some support back from some. I loved XI before Seekers, I just hate how much the game I loved was changed. As I've said before, iLvs were in XIV from the start, they were added to XI 10 years in. If I'm going to play a new game, I might as well get better graphics. On top of that XIV keeps armor designs fresh and new while XI seems to be using recolors and retextures.

That is correct. Seekers was released for JP PS2 clients but not NA.

So now that Adoulin story is over, what will be next? I personally liked a lot of the games story, especially WoTG. I doubt there would be another expansion but here's to hoping there will be.

I second this! Relics/Mythics would actually be a hell of a reward if it went to 75 cap, and would be a nice option, but not a necessity for end game content.

I'd make a new char and leave 14 for 11 if SE did this. SE could also do expansions that didn't go apeshit over the top and need ilvl gear to do anything.

Not disagreeing as I do agree XIV does get new models all the time but... I do have to poke fun at this.

On 14 between levels 1-30 pre AF1 the armor is the same, just re-skinned and you can dye it.

The AF1 and AF2 are pretty much the same style, just different colors. There's specialty gear etc.

So basically 14's armor is the same as 11's, some variants and specialties, a lot of cut/paste/color. No difference.

There will come a time where all of the armor in FFXIV will all be the same, just recolored.

Due to PS2 PS3 limitations.

PS3's being dropped within 2015, but eventually PS4 limitations!

Also grossly understaffed dev team. Their entire level/dungeon/monster/battle design team comprised of like 6 people or something.

Seriously?

They are dropping PS3 support for a newer game, but not PS2 support on a very old game?

yes, seriously. it's been talked about in several live letters. unlike XI's team it would seem like XIV is willing to adapt with the times rather than letting an aged, antiquated piece of hardware cut development potential.

They have a tendency to draw from armor of past games. The CT and ST armor is designed from armors and enemies from FFIII.
