I don't understand how/why you go into the medical profession and seek out to harm others. Then this nurse has the nerve to talk smack about her patients.
This girl simply disgusts me. I hope she convicted on all counts. I can't imagine any hospital employing her after this incident.
Meet Kathryn Knott, The Violent Homophobic Nurse Who Beat A Gay Couple Unconscious
Quote: One of the suspects charged in Philadelphia’s brutal September 11th gay bashing has a history of being homophobic on Twitter. Are you surprised?
We reported earlier today that three suspects have been charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and criminal conspiracy after beating and subsequently hospitalizing a gay couple in an unprovoked attack in Center City this month.
From a group of 12 reported former Catholic high school classmates, eight allegedly took active roles in the assault, and only three have been charged.
If you want to learn more about the assault, check out our previous coverage.
One assailant, 24-year-old Kathryn Knott (reported by some sources as Katherine Knott), is the daughter of Chalfont, Pennsylvania Police Chief Karl Knott and an apparent spoiled brat. Her neighbors told ABC 6 that they’re “not surprised” by the charges.
And according to some tweets dug up by Twitter user Clarknt67, she’s had quite a few things to say about gays, and quite a few tequila shots too many. From what we can tell, she’s also an ER nurse, has a propensity to drink at home, and is so annoyed when her parents give her checks instead of cash:

Political correctness run amok!

Read the article, wasn't much smack talking and only mild public homophobia.
Now that being said she is most certainly a spoiled little ***, and if she's truly guilty then the full force of the law needs brought down.

I think this goes a bit farther than what Paula Dean or the CEO of Mozilla did lol

Unless she has offered substandard care or harm to gays while at work or representing her place of work, they should have nothing to say on the subject. I dislike homophobia and hate speech as much as anyone, probably more than anyone I know. While she doesn't have the right to assault people, obviously, she does have the right to state her opinion in any manner peaceable, no matter how vile it is.

They can fire her and her respective state nursing board can revoke her license over this. Nurses and physicians are held to a higher moral code by their state boards. So the fact that she's even being prosecuted means the state nursing board can(and probably will) view this as a potential endangerment to patients.

Yeah, glanced over that on my first pass through, she definitely needs canned if for nothing else but that alone.
Unless they were her own scans, or test ones that weren't actual patients (we don't really know, do we) but at this point the only way she's getting off is some major strings being pulled by her daddy and friends, and that'd probably cause a huge scandal, hopefully they're not that dumb at this point (never know with cops).
They'll probably do a plea deal on her charges (politics, yo), she'll probably get canned from work. Unfortunately she probably both won't learn from this and probably won't spend enough if any prison time.

She engaged in a hate crime, brutally beat two people to the point they both needed hospitalization, was drunk in public... One would think her employers would want to immediately terminate her to distance themselves from her and her evil ways.
Plus, the fact she willfully posted patient CT scans and x-rays on her own twitter account violates doctor-patient confidentiality. Now the hospital has grounds TO fire her.
She allegedly committed those crimes, she has been charged, not convicted. Even with overwhelming evidence (speculation), until she is convicted of said crimes, she's innocent, that's another one of those rights people in this country have.
As for posting patient information on her twitter account. Doctor-patient confidentiality doesn't apply, she's not a doctor, it's also not strictly illegal in the same sense as the assault is. She is subject to HIPAA, which has VERY clear guidelines on that, and if she didn't post names, it's a gray area. If they wanted to can her for that, I'd support it fully.
You don't like her, and you have good reason, I don't like her either, but she is innocent until proven guilty and her employer has no obligation to sacrifice her to the court of public opinion until she is convicted (which could violate some internal policies) or unless HIPAA violations can be substantiated.

IF they decided to do that, that's their business. I was making a statement about public outcry destroying her professional career even if she is found innocent of the charges. That happens quite often in these kinds of cases. I do remember a lot of you guys being very outspoken about Perry trying to oust the DA charged with DUI, the fact that this person is even more detestable shouldn't change that position.

Just a pet peeve, but she isn't a doctor and she isn't discussing patient information so it isn't doctor-patient confidentiality...
She is breaking HIPAA laws by posting pictures, which are a federal offense. And unfortunately as long as there is no name/patient ID/identifying information or marks she could probably get out of trouble on that. While it is no doubt stupid to post anything patient related anywhere, some times there are good reasons to take pictures and such.
I know taking a quick picture of a car wreck and such with your personal phone is pretty common practice pre-hospital. Way easier to just show the doctor the damage than trying to explain it.

EDIT: Your're right, however the ability to practice nursing and medicine aren't guaranteed rights, they are privileges granted by the respective state medical agency.
Just because you obtain a M.D. or B.S.N. doesn't mean you have the right to practice.

Putting patient information, such as x-rays, online without patient consent actually does violate HIPAA, buddy. So, unless patients have actually consented to it, which I doubt, she needs to lose her job.
"individually identifiable health information"
That means if you can't identify the patient by the x-ray (very likely) it's not strictly in violation of HIPAA. Like I said, if they can substantiate that violation, I'd agree.

Some hospitals may have rules against it regardless of law, in which case she'd just be in a violation of policy, there's really no reason to share those things via social media or even to friends/family.
But that being said, some xrays of random objects being stuck are rather damn funny.

Exactly. It's unsavory and could be against some policy. If they wanted to fire her or revoke her license for that violation, have at it, she'd deserve it. I just can't support firing someone because they were charged with a crime unless that directly violates a policy, in which case I'd have a serious issue with that policy for obvious reasons. People are falsely accused quite often, that's a cornerstone of the anti-death penalty argument.

The hospital just suspended her today. ABC is reporting her as an ER tech not an RN. so I dunno...
3 CHARGED IN ATTACK ON GAY COUPLE IN CENTER CITY PHILADELPHIA SURRENDER TO POLICE
Quote: All three people charged in an attack on a gay couple in Center City Philadelphia surrendered to police on Wednesday.
They are:
-Kevin J. Harrigan, 26, from the 1000 block of Gotland Circle in Warrington, Pa.
-Kathryn G. Knott, 24, of the 1200 block of Melody Lane in Southampton, Pa.
-Phillip Williams, 24, of the 100 block of Acorn Drive in Warminster, Pa.
All three are charged with aggravated assault, criminal conspiracy, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.
Meanwhile, because of the charges, Knott has been suspended from her job as an emergency room tech for Abington Health's Lansdale Hospital, where she has worked since 2011.
In addition, Abington Health said it was investigating potential privacy violations involving Knott. This comes after reports that Knott posted pictures of patient x-rays to her Twitter account.
"Abington Health takes patient privacy and confidentiality very seriously and is fully investigating this matter," the hospital said in a statement.
Action News has confirmed Knott is the daughter of Chalfont, Bucks County Police Chief Karl Knott.

Alot of what she did should not have any repercussions. Thoughts she said or posted or talked about... all 1st amendment. She was the right to voice her opinions.
And what someone does outside of work, should not be considered in whether a person gets fired (in most cases.) Work can judge you at work, they are not life police.
That being said, if she indeed posted x-rays and what not of her patients... then she should be gone. Thats a violation on several categories. I think even illegal.
As for the assault, which i haven't bothered watching, that stands on its own. Let the punishment fit the crime to the full extent of the law.
