We're taught WWII and older events but we're also taught the cold war, and everything related to it, then the gulf war, Vietnam and so on. It's very hard to finish your scholarship (18yo) and not see the US as the nowadays bully.
Take people around my age. We were born in a world bullied by the US, the 90's then were the exact same monopoly, then the 2000's, and now the 10's have just ended their 20+ years of bullying the same area. A whole generation, my generation, is absolutely unable to see the US in the same light as they were seen back in the 40s.
Remember the "living long enough to become the villain" line? That's pretty close to US's situation, but it's been like that for a couple decades now.
