I campaign alot in Sandy areas. AOE's fly there, alot.
Stoneskin's great for that but whatever, all just preference I guess.

yes I do. And yes stoneskin is nice, but it gets eaten through pretty quickly, blink too, lol. When there are 5 orcs all in range, all casting AOE's things tend to get a little more challenging.
To each thier own, if you wanna go melee as whm at campaign, your choice totally. Not the way I choose to do it, I get good results doing what I do, what BLM does best.

I honestly don't see a BLM meleeing much either, WHM with mystic boon and hexastrike sure.

Blink generally tends to have no effect at all if I recall as it pretty much just gets eaten by every AOE. SS generally seems to last a bit for me... bosses aside but I'm not going to be meleeing bosses anyways, lol.
I've always gotten better results with meleeing with BLM than doing "what BLM does best". The type of mobs you fight in campaign are just not suited to BLM's strengths

Yeah, I wouldn't call meleeing BLM's very common at all, but it's a pretty effective way of earning xp/an if that's what you're there for.
personally, I have no problem with BLM campaign. I get 2kish xp per battle, always lot and usually get decent lots, so doing "what BLM does best" works just fine for me :D
