Edit: No it wasnt changed all that long ago but I still kind of miss it...it was sort of an institution checking all the bazaars just before you zone...i remember a friend of mine scolding me once because i zoned with him on follow before he could go shopping lol.

Actually no I meant aht urgan areas. This super fast easy to get to xp breeds complacentcy. I mean if it takes you an hour to get somewhere for maybe 10k an hour with a good well balance pt your damn well gonna play good as a team knowing your job.

Aht Urgahn killed MB, but it's far from the sole reason for level 75's not knowing how to play their jobs. Reducing the exp required to get from 51-75 was the start, ToAU, was the middle, and Campaign/Level Sync was the end.

JPN PTs would not invite you, even if you were the only WHM LFP in the Dunes.. until I synthed a Pine Juice.

Food and drink was a luxury.

A Dunes PT would wait for a member to arrive.. from Windurst via Mhaura.

No matter what the WHM did, you tolerated it since the WHM could make a PT and you could not.

The person you asked for a Raise expected a Pine Juice, 10k or something to get them off their Chocobo.

You'd 'climb' to the Spires in Promy with large Alliances.. and still wipe because you didn't know what an anima was for.

Exp all week, farm all week and lose it all in a few hours of PM6-4.

There were more players than NPCs in Giddeus...

You saw a trio of Ifrits 'chasing' some tarus and you zoned to Kazham.

Casting Invisible on a chocobo's rider still made you laugh.

Also, casting invis on someone on a choco DOES still make me laugh <_<

Before you knew what provoke was, and thought just standing in front of someone would help. Or when you thought running around an enemy you're fighting made it harder for them to see you XD

I hate that noone xp's in any of the old zones. Noone really wants to work to earn their levels. It kills me that people, even old crusty guys that have been on since NA release, look at me like I have 3 heads when I suggest moon or sky for xp when the *** candy is gone. "We can't get xp bonus, so I don't want to xp." Whiny crap like that makes me want to puke. What people don't realize is, everyone is having that same lopsided mentality. You could take a well balanced party to VoS or behind the moongate and run the joint for weeks. Say what you will, but to me, doing things the old way is alot more fun. Yeah, getting a buttload of xp fast is cool, but its boring. The way the game has evolved now is why I retired RDM.

And Blazza hit right on. The xp drop, TOA zones, and level sync has created a huge crop of people that didn't learn the ins and outs of the game like alot of the rest of did because they juiced through the levels so fast.

Oh, and do you remember people actually typed words and full sentances, rather than speaking in fragments, using purposely misspelled words, and speaking "1337" vernacular? Ah, grammar... How I miss it so.

Remember when you fought the "Spook" NM for the first time and you dropped it thinking it was worth less and wanted a revival root tree instead.

ahh i missed those first weeks of FFXI

I'll throw in a few that people haven't mentioned:
- people used world passes.
- you made your character 20 times to try get onto the same server as someone you knew because your friend couldn't afford a world pass.
- no one had NIN or /NIN because it didn't exist.
- you first heard about signet.
- (not mine but I laughed) you thought SE would never raise the level cap to 60 because then everyone would get trick attack.
- you had to logout to check allah.
- you were in Dragons Aery and Faf was sitting there unclaimed.
- your old endgame LS leader wasn't such a ***.

Do you remember throwing Bomb Cores, Morions, etc? Sweet, sweet frustration.

Also setting your Home Point in Valkurm so you could warp there quickly if you actually got an XP invite, so you wouldn't have to do the above again.

When you could cast invisible with avatar out and actually freak n00bs out into thinking avatar was gonna get them...

Also on this topic, setting your home point to places other then Whitegate or Home Nation (near OP warp NPC).

a NIN in my party yesterday had to suffer this lol. Was pretty funny.

i remember when u used to pty in kuftal tunnel and there were players of lvl 70-75 that made a train with the mobs and all u pty had to stop fighting the mob and run to zone too, because the mobs back then didnt depop like they do now, they went all the way back to their pop area, it wiped my pty tons of times
