No, with the technology today there's no reason people should have to work to survive (food, shelter, clothes, mild entertainment, and possibly communication). Anything beyond that: sure.
The thing is we'd be further to that point, if we as a nation would stop trying to fix the rest of the world, or letting our money go to develop other parts of the world, with cheaper labor.
I mean eventually the whole world will catch on, but it will just take a *** ton longer.

All I know for sure is McDonald's hamburger patties are cooked by the dead stare of a 49 year-old mother of 6 in the Welfare for Work program. That's why their food tastes like a soulless husk and tattered dreams. (Cheese Extra)

I don't want to sleep tonight:
1. what's wrong with a degree in communications? (I mean I can see ripping on the liberal arts degrees, and quite frankly I think they're a waste of tuition money, both by the people who get them, and by the school to "invest" in them. But that's me, and getting an actual skill.
2. Minimum wage should reflect a living wage, whatever that living wage is due to inflation (be it $15/hour or $50/hour) then so be it.

You might be including things like transportation because as things are, transportation is basically a necessity. Some people have to take jobs over an hour away from their home to support their family. Such as my uncle who lives about 1 hour and 15 minutes away from his job.
