South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley pledged to sign legislation on Thursday permanently removing the Confederate battle flag from the state capitol grounds, following an emotional debate spurred by the massacre of nine black churchgoers last month.

Haley said she would sign the bill into law at 4 p.m. EDT, and Charleston's Post and Courier newspaper said the flag would be removed at 10 a.m. on Friday. It will be taken to the "relic room" of a military museum in Columbia, the state capital.

The flag nicknamed the "Stars and Bars," carried by Confederates in the 1861-1865 Civil War, is seen as a symbol of racism and slavery by many but of Southern heritage by others. It has flown at the state capitol for more than 50 years.

South Carolina's House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved the bill just after 1 a.m. EDT on Thursday after a debate that began on Wednesday. The Senate passed it earlier in the week, also by a huge margin.

In a statement early Thursday, Haley said, "It is a new day in South Carolina, a day we can all be proud of, a day that truly brings us all together as we continue to heal, as one people and one state."

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) welcomed the move, calling the flag "one of the longest standing symbols of hatred and exclusion."

Problem solved.

Groovy. I can't wait to see which vaguely-related, pointless fight the next disaster will spawn.
Probably either gun control or climate change.

U.S. authorities thwarted plots to kill people in the United States around the July 4 holiday, FBI Director James Comey said on Thursday.

Comey told reporters more than 10 people inspired by the Islamic State's recruitment online have been arrested over the past four weeks, some of which were focused on attacks around the July 4 holiday.

FBI and the Department of Homeland Security issued a warning to local law enforcement to be on alert for attacks around July 4. No such attacks occurred.

Comey did not give the details on the number of plots thwarted or their targets.

He said dozens of people in the United States who are suspected to be under the influence of Islamic State militants have "gone dark" because of encrypted data.

BRICS will surpass G7 in two or three years

While India is doing what China did the past 40(?)years, I don't see the other ones growing that much...but I'm far from an expert so I'm just leaving the article for you smart people to share some wisdom(if it even sparks a debate Idk, you guys usually love this economics speculations!)

UPDATE 1-U.S. Mint sold out of silver coins due to strong demand

Low prices = more demand, go figure. Interesting how high demand has lowered, and not raised prices.

This has had me concerned for awhile. Nobody seems to notice or care though.

Fighting over a woman on currency is so April 2015, its July get with the times!

We need a cross gendered teen on our money! Preferably one around the age of 15 that had the surgery without parental consent and paid for by the US Tax Payer!

Can you imagine the arrogance of the person driving someone else s child to get a sex change without their parents knowing. Here I am thinking driving them to get birth control implanted into them is horribly wrong. Leave it to the insanity of the liberal left to outdo themselves yet again.

No links to primary source material and story only shows as reported on Fox News. Sounds legit.

Oregon Health Plan Coverage of Gender Dysphoria
Where the idiot who wrote that extrapolated this all to mean 15 yos getting gender reassignment without a parent's knowledge is beyond me, but it's not like their readers are known for their research or fact-checking abilities.

As much fun as it is to ridicule those people, I think it's time we stop giving them attention.

If there's one thing Americans are good at, it's refraining from giving attention to people who don't deserve it.

It's been awhile in the making. Eventually -pretty much no matter what- BRICS will surpass G7 because they have more people. More people increasing their wages will lead to an increase in GDP.

However, this article discusses only PPP, which has serious drawbacks as a measure of economic prowess. It should always be coupled with other economic indicators: GDP, export/import balance, unemployment, private/public investment, etc

Also, the BRICS have not made the leaps predicted years ago. China is currently having some serious issues with their stock market and Russia is headed for no GDP growth this year.
