Many, many protestant Bible literalists don't even think masturbation is okay. I'm looking for specific groups, otherwise you're making an assumption based on a stereotype. For example, LDS people are extremely pro-abstinence and yet not at all anti-contraception. One does not mandate the other. Conservative evangelicals, largely, though we're getting more into religious theory and personal belief now rather than specific doctrine. The fact remains that, again, the south is overwhelmingly protestant and these are the areas that are most hellbent on teaching abstinance-only... That's because they're under the mistaken belief that if you don't address the elephant in the room, it's not going to cause mass destruction. People need the facts to make wise decisions. Wading into a denominational shitfiesta is pointless. There is little wavering from the political base about abortions, abstinence and sex education. And for the most part, it boils down to a return to tradition.
-Ban abortions. Period. -Sex education will be abstinence. Stop talking about sex and it vanishes. -Sex education encourages teens to have sex. It's immoral and promotes promiscuity. So now we've solved that little problem. This is supposed to somehow lower teen pregnancy and abortions. History and a bit of light googling proves it wrong. So back to square one gents. How do we get the teen prego rates down and prevent abortions without trampling on muh freedums? Education. Surprise, surprise. Common sense education is the way to go. Bahamut.Ravael said: » Maybe if you could back away from hyperbole for half a second, you might find a solution. Common sense education is the way to go. What hyperbole? The common sense IS to educate. The earlier the better. By 12-13 it should be starting at the absolute latest. I bet if you get a generation of boys whose first clues about sex didn't come from sneaking a peak at dad's skinmag stash you'll make progress in the "battle of the sexes" too, as you'll eliminate boys' first take on the female body as being objectified in a pornography setting. Bahamut.Ravael said: » Common sense education is the way to go. "Common sense" is subjective, and quite often flat out wrong and dangerous. How is anything I said hyperbolic? I merely just parroted the current accepted platform and the common justifications for it.
We're on the same page here. Put down the partisan pitchfork for a second and you'd see that. I already said that sex education (no matter how awkward it is) is the best way to lower abortions. Give women knowledge and they'll rightfully shrug off that guy who wants to rawdog it. Give men knowledge and they'll use condoms instead of knocking up every broad imaginable that become our career welfare slobs. Which is basically one of many ways how you can tell Catholics are full of ***, but that may be getting too far off topic. Most Catholics ignore that. Most middle class Catholic women use birth control. It's mainly poorer people who follow the old ways and mass reproduce.
Doesn't really matter though. We're talking about the main Conservative platform which includes Catholics, Protestants and Evangelicals. And there is little internal conflict. Start giving the "take care of a fake baby" assignment at the age of 10, every year.
To be fair though, some crazy people will possibly go have a kid then. Lakshmi.Sparthosx said: » It's mainly poorer people who follow the old ways At once keeping them poor and breeding a new generation of supplicants. If the goal is 'muh freedoms!' like so many Conservatives accuse Liberals of wanting to destroy utterly then you educate teens on sex, provide them with the tools and leave it to them if they want to or not.
That means abortions will still happen but are drastically reduced by all the near pregos prevented by birth control or simply better knowledge about sex. If you want to follow religious conviction and pursue abstinence then wonderful, do that. We live in a country where sex is everywhere. It's irresponsible and idiotic to on one hand promote sex shamelessly for money and then scold people when they ignorantly knock someone up because they didn't know ***about it. Ever seen a sex scene in a movie where our hot 'n heavy couple stops to put on condoms and use lube? Yeah, I didn't think so. Then you get into the whole "Homosex is bad" debate and since you cant really tell which one of these 14 year olds is going to be likely to have sex with a man or a woman (or both) lets just like, not hand out condoms and that way, the diseases God put on the Earth to kill all you sinners will just work itself out. We'll get back to super Hebrew utopia, Jesus will come back, and then we can all have drunken sex parties with cocaine and hookers in heaven. I should use sarcasm font, but ugh. http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/06/16/eurozone-greece-treasury-idUSW1N0WX00J20150616
Quote: U.S. Treasury's Lew tells Greek PM debt compromise urgently needed The Obama administration urged Greece on Tuesday to make a "serious" move toward reaching a compromise with its international creditors, warning that failure to strike a deal would create hardship for the Greek people. U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew told Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras by phone the global economy could also suffer if Athens can't reach a deal with creditors. "Lew underscored the urgency of Greece making a serious move to reach a pragmatic compromise with its creditors," a Treasury official said in a statement. Kids who get comprehensive sex education have lower pregnancy rates than kids who get abstinence "education." Surprising fact. So do kids who get no sex education. Why they want to increase it I don't know, but I have some ideas. I shan't* go into them. It would get a bit ranty if I did. *King, this is also a legitimate word. Wait, have the Democrats been stealing their playbook from the Vatican this whole time? You can thank the internet for making pornography easy to get a hold of. If you took the internet out of the picture, I guarantee there'd be far less of this going on. Unfortunately in this day and age, that'll be unavoidable.
You do know people were jacking off to skin mags before porn right? And VHS porn. And Skinimax. And homemmade stuff. And audio porn. Erotic novels. Pictures of *** on walls.
The world didn't start mass jacking in 2000. Lakshmi.Sparthosx said: » The world didn't start mass jacking in 2000 lol red states. Yea they need income from someone to feed the generational welfare cases.
Uhm there wasn't the internet in the 50's and if you listen to my grandpa, he whacked it all the time. So did I and I didn't have internet. My mom was also a sex nazi, where she even wrote sports illustrated to NOT send my brother the swimsuit mag. Honestly, I'd rather my kids learn about safe sex not abstinence. I mean, can we all agree that most teenagers are going to have sex regardless of what their parents (or school districts) teach them? You would think parents would rather have their children be safe than stupid and not know how to properly use a condom or birth control. |
