I post this not to make fun of them holding hands, or exchanging smooches as you can easily find. Different cultures and different practices. That's fine.
But they're clearly closely tied.

Or is he just a political and financial ally and probably good friends to boot, given their dealings?

Jobs shouldn't rely on the backbone of this complicated system of creating things people want and then making it for them.
This system isn't complicated at all. It is very easy to understand, but only if you have an open mind and the willingness to understand it.
I just meant that the old time values of waste not want not and of thriftiness and being non materialistic being a lauded virtue should return, our system relies on consuming in mass quantities to function. That doesn't have to be the case. We could all still live comfortably with lots of stuff we do need, and not have to shove stuff we don't need or just throw away all the time into the market. Planned obsolescence is something I see as somewhat symbolic of all of this.

Helped create the demand, but didn't cause the explosion of people's desire to own the latest/greatest thing and go into debt for their overspending habits.
