I think we're done here.
You really think racial tensions would be in the same place if he wasn't in office? He isn't fanning the flames for political gain?
GTFO. What political gain would he receive when he's already run for president and won election, twice? He can't run for office a third time, two term limit for presidency, unlike all other elective offices in this country, or have you forgotten? The seeds for what we're seeing now weren't planted by Obama, but by Reagan. The day the "war on drugs" started in the 1980's, and mandatory minimum sentencing became law, turning what would've before that been considered as law abiding citizens became felons unable to be employed in gainful positions. Political gain for social unrest? More liberals in office. Because, honestly, liberals are more suited in social affairs. What better way to gain more overall power than to create your own problems?
So nothing about the War on Drugs.
Mandatory sentencing / Rockefeller drug laws.
Subsequent destruction of Central/Latin America.
The ghettoization of the 70s/80s cities and now subsequent gentrification.
Urban planning that intentionally skipped, left out or diverted around areas of minority populations.
Critical service denial with regards to home loans, jobs and neighborhood infrastructure?
Seriously? Just a lib/con argument? You're a joke. My god, how on earth do you deal with all those oppressed feels?

Getting hit teaches you that violence is an appropriate response to unwanted stimulus and encourages better preparedness in hiding one's wrong-doing. It's 100% appropriate to smack the crap out of your child when you see him partaking in senseless rioting.

What was my stance? Can you let the class know? It amazes me that after posting what you do you can come back with a garbage reply like this.
You posted the original article specifically noting that it was self-inflicted. Two times after that you specifically responded to other posts noting again only that it was self-inflicted. then you continues on about how the guy didn't know who was in the other container but he was sure that the other guy was inflicting damage upon himself.
Now it's "I never took a stance!" Pointing out a contradiction in "public knowledge" is not making a statement.... Cause, you know, words are hard.
This is the third time today I caught you in not understanding simple English...you really need to go back to grade school.

I tend to fall into the Louis C.K. school of hitting your kids.
It's certainly effective.
But ultimately taking the easy way out and teaching them that hitting things is the answer to adversity.
Which -- in fact -- probably helps ignite things like, oh...I don't know...riots?

Reality is a heavy weight. Some would even call it a burden.
It's why I suspect you rather talk about hypothetical timelines and wish fulfillment instead. I'm sorry some of us understand cause and effect, I really am.

Keep making excuses for the way your life is. One of these times the mirage will end up being real. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Mmmhmm. Sarcastic indignancy to boot.
Keep making excuses for the way your life is. One of these times the mirage will end up being real.
Yet you substantiate my statement with your very next words.
I really hope you lose everything some day. Which may sound mean at first, but I think it will make you a better person for it, especially if you're as strong to pull yourself up by your bootstraps as you seem to think you are.

So the War on Drugs is a mirage.
I'm making excuses for my life by making factual statements.
And a broken clock is right twice a day by stating that resources need to be spent to expect the poorest in our society to succeed.
Oh, ok.
It's like you don't want to talk about reality because you choose to live in a universe where everyone is equal because dealing with inequality is scary and inherently bad.

We've spent trillions on the "war on poverty", more than on every war and it's a bigger failure than the war on drugs.

What are the possible factors that influence the current turmoil?
Economic factors
Social factors
Race
Media influence
Police training methods
City/county/state/national laws
Drug/alcohol addiction
Education
etc.
What factor is the easiest to exploit for viewership, and therefore is pretty much what everyone is talking about?
Whitey hate Blacky

Who runs the media? Who are the key decisionmakers who can affect substantive change? Who are the people who should talk about those issues and engage the oppressed populace? Who has the money and thus the power?
Right. We choose status quo over and over again. A fair choice, but lets not pretend like it isn't being made.

Protip:
The Civil Rights movement didn't gain the traction needed to succeed until a large populace of whites became engaged and thus invested in seeing it pass. The same goes for abolition.

It is to some extent, just not to the level that I've seen in the news reports. And it was sort of a continuation of what I was talking about before, separated by a bunch of arguing between you guys and Nausi.

Random Politics & Religion is for topics that aren't thread worthy on their own and do not have their own existing thread.
Rules and Guidelines
Forum Rules and P&R Section Guidelines still apply.
Satire is tolerated.
If your topic covers a story over 6 months old (Watergate, Benghazi, 2012 Election, etc.) post it here.
Discussions on racism, homophobia, transphobia, and the like are allowed, targeted insults based on these will not be tolerated.
Political debates get heated and are meant to be intense, if you take offense to being called or proven wrong, you don't belong here.
If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen; if you prove you can't handle the criticism you bring upon yourself in this thread, you may be removed from it. You are responsible for what you post.
Along those lines, heat is fine, but sustained, clearly personal hostility is not okay. The personal attack rules still apply. Attack positions, not posters. Failure to adhere to this will result in your removal from the thread.
This thread is NOT the Flame Core.
These rules are subject to change and modification where and when needed.
Random Politics & Religion may be mained or demained depending on the activity within at a Moderator's discretion.
With that out of the way, let the debates begin!
