Even if only 20% of the population votes, it would take every single citizen in Wyoming to have the same level of voting power to vote than one section of New York City.

And you think that's fair?

...you're asking me if I think it's fair that people who neglect to vote lose out on representation?

Of course that's fair. That's the very point of voting. Expressing your will. If you don't vote in a 1:1 system, that's your own damn fault. If you don't vote in an electoral college system, who can blame you, because your vote doesn't matter in most states where the electoral votes are nearly assuredly going to go against you anyhow.
So, instead, let's have 2 regions of the nation decide your vote instead of whatever state you live in?
Considering that most presidents get elected on the popular vote already your argument doesn't make a lot of sense. Not everyone from New York votes democrat. Not everyone from Texas Votes Republican.

Those states already get weighted higher because of their greater number of electoral votes. CA has 18 times more voting power than Nevada in the electoral system. Is that fair? If your concern is each state be equally represented why not just give each state one electoral vote?

With the electoral college the way votes have more to do with focusing elections on swing states and winning over and all the rest just vote the way they always do.

In any case I personally think the only thing that would change are the venues that presidential campaigns would focus on.
Because now we are going to a different argument.

If I were to push my agenda in changing to a new voting system, I would change it to a state-only voting system where that there are a total of 51 votes in the election, and each state (plus DC) gets exactly 1 vote, and that vote is determined by the popular vote in that state.

Since the majority of states are red in general elections, as show by this map:

My voting system will nearly guarantee a Republican controlled government for a very long while.

However, that still wouldn't be a fair method of signifying a representative government, because population factors will be removed completely. I would never advocate a system where only one factor is taken into consideration in a complex matter such as our government.

Electoral college system is our best solution in a true representative government. It allows citizens in lower population states have a voice while also allowing population factors and populist vote to have their own voice.

Fair question:

How much do you guys pay for coffee, where do you and is it any good? Paying a buck for 'donut store' (read: ***tier) coffee isn't very practical.

Excluding brewing your own of course.

I prefer Tim Horton's, but those aren't around here because Dunkin Donuts runs the Pittsburgh region. Unless you're in a poor neighborhood, in which case "Donut Connection" is in Dunkin's place.

Sheetz Columbian is my coffee-of-choice for drinking black. Dunkin's coffee isn't bad, it's one of the few others I'll drink black. I dislike Starbucks and they're never in good locations to stop at on the way to work for me anyhow. McDonald's coffee is cheap and normally tolerable with minimal addition.

Most other coffee around here needs massive amounts of sugar and/or milk, including the sludge here at the office.

How does eliminating the absolutely asinine electoral college/votes system hurt representative government again?

The electoral college system naturally gives individual states more leverage in the national stage. The same way Wyoming having 2 senators like California does.

United STATES of America.

The electoral college allows for gerrymandering and generally turns voting into a big damned mess. Also, allows those who lose the popular vote to win elections (see: 2000). Getting rid of the electoral college allows every vote to count.

How does it allow for "gerrymandering"?

I would disagree that it's a big mess. It certainly does allow for candidates to be capable of loosing the popular vote and still winning the election. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, especially when dead people and illegal aliens vote and vote often.
Got some proff to back that claim up? No? that's what I thought.
Can't show ***to the blind.

We now live in an era in which corporate executives have grown convinced that their customers don’t merely want a product or a service, but spiritual and intellectual enlightenment. And they’re relying on their entry-level employees to provide it.

What could go wrong?

Tim/Dunkin/Starbucks all sell coffee around the same price, 3 bucks for a medium here. It's like 2.69 but whatever.

I wouldn't compare those three to bodega/McDonalds/Wendy's coffee since quality usually takes a huge ***at these places. But it's a buck! Yeah for crap tier office coffee.

If i had to choose there are some niche cafes in Manhattan that sell really potent ***but that's going out of my way for coffee. It'd still run 3-4 bucks either way.

I used to readily shell out 2 bucks for a coffee at Dunks without hesitation, then due to the various local taxes in my state, the price started to actually total $2.01. It really left a bad taste in my mouth that the store would actually give me 99 cents back almost every time. McDonalds coffee isn't crap, it taste superior to dunks and its now less that half the cost.

win/win

On coffee I'll agree with Nausi somewhat. I don't think McDonald's is better than Dunkin, but the money:quality ratio is pretty good.

Sheetz is still better than both.

I've had much better coffee but it isn't worth the hassle to find it. Some of the blends are actually good too.

Much as I *** about Starbucks the girls that work at the local Starbucks are pretty cute/friendly too... so that overwrites my hatred towards the company.

Depends. I prefer tea most of the time, but most places don't make anything but low-end teabag tea, if they make it at all. I drink tea at home, but I drink coffee on the go. Work is sort of split 50/50, because some days I just need the kick of coffee, but it's awful, so I keep tea at my desk and make it unless I need said coffee kick.
