Jetackuu said: » Lakshmi.Zerowone said: » He doesn't even get the Star Trek: The Next Generation Cardassian Interrogation tactic reference. TNG has so many good libertarian episodes it's a crime that people only associate the show with a communist utopia. Quote: You know, there are some words I've known since I was a schoolboy. "With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably." Those words were uttered by Judge Aaron Satie as wisdom and warning. The first time any man's freedom is trodden on, we're all damaged. Quote: Jean-Luc Picard: Mr. Worf, villains who twirl their moustaches are easy to spot. Those who clothe themselves in good deeds are well-camouflaged. Worf: I think... after yesterday people will not be so ready to trust her. Jean-Luc Picard: Maybe. But she, or someone like her, will always be with us. Waiting for the right climate in which to flourish, spreading fear in the name of righteousness. -From "The Drumhead" Also, required viewing. 15mins of pure TV win. YouTube Video Placeholder Anyone else tired of these threads turning into:
A) bitching about women B) implying or outright stating women are nuts, crazy, ***, tramps, stupid, vapid, war currency, etc. I'm sure I missed a term C) complaining about the imaginary feminists that are putting all the men down or turning western men into slaves or weak or .... <Fill in the blank from previous threads> Edit, spelling @Sparth:
Yeah, I'll probably borrow it from my friend here soon. He has the dvd collection iirc, just half of them probably don't work as he doesn't take care of his ***. King's already given away he has limited interaction with women. His groaning is pretty much frustration and his talking points standard conservative tripe.

That 15minutes of Picard is pretty much some of the best thought out of TNG. YouTube Video Placeholder I humbly request that you set aside words like "Communist" or "Libertarian" or whatever else and just urge people to watch it for what it is. The episode appeals on a much more fundamental level than any political ideology can express as a whole, and you sort of inadvertently sully the message trying to express it in such a fashion by today's terms. Quote: Vice-President Joe Biden has insulted Germany, the EU’s biggest economy and America’s most important ally in Europe, with a gratuitous and ignorant accusation that the German people are hostile towards immigrants and “xenophobic.” Offering no evidence, Biden told an audience in Washington to “Look at Germany. Look at the rest of the world.” He put Germany among the countries that were not “as welcoming” to outsiders. America is “the only non-xenophobic nation in the world that’s a major economy.” Quote: President Barack Obama took sides on one of the most divisive debates in the history of the English language this week by declaring that the word “GIF” — an acronym for Graphics Interchange Format —is pronounced with a hard “G” sound,” as one would pronounce “gift,” “gaffe” or the “G” in “Benghazi.” The president announced his decision during a meeting with Tumblr CEO David Karp at the White House on Tuesday. "That is my official position,” Obama said, before posing for a GIF with Karp, who was in Washington to host a discussion on student loan reform. “I pondered it a long time." I agree with you fully but the show gets such a bad rap for being what people interpret as being ideologically bent, which it may be, when many of the lessons out of the show are valuable life lessons that anyone can do well to soak in. Well, this looks like a good opening! Seconded Kara's motion. The mods really need to do something about these attitudes. Everyone takes their licks in one way or another on FFXIAH, but the misogyny has really become out of hand. Since Zero brought 'Clueless' up to bat, I've got this on-deck! Asura.Kingnobody said: » Yeah, that wasn't the argument though. The argument was that who you have sex with is a choice. I'm not missing your point. I understand it fully, however you need to look into sex and what its most primitive function is- which is reproduction. Your argument is essentially that humans are capable of denying an innate primitive trait and should therefor do so. Offline

Quote: (Reuters) - Virginia's Republican-controlled legislature passed a two-year budget late on Thursday that shot down the Democratic governor's proposal to expand Medicaid and closed a $1.55 billion revenue shortfall. Expanding Medicaid, the health insurance program for low-income people, to about 400,000 Virginians under the federal Affordable Care Act had been Governor Terry McAuliffe's chief legislative priority. He has not said whether he will approve the lawmakers' spending plan. McAuliffe, in a stand-off for months with Republicans, had linked the budget to Medicaid expansion. The impasse was broken this week when a Democratic state senator said he resigned to secure his daughter a judgeship, giving the Republicans control of the upper chamber. The Senate passed the spending plan 21-18, and the House of Delegates voted for it 69-31. A July 1 government shutdown looms if a budget is not approved. Offline
