I've reread it about 20 times. Putin is responding to allegations of unjust invasion of another country by making fun of women. Ono's right, though. I should have just read "Putin" and stopped, knowing it was going to be a waste of my time. Offline

And this is how Hillary will (not) get elected in 2016. He will stand up and ask her some amazing question. She will be like hmm you are right. Totally owned.
Putin's just mad because she Godwin'd him.

(not allowed to play outside of Youtube for some reason...) I feel safer already. Quote: It is closely related to the logical fallacy “reductio ad Hitlerum”, which says “Hitler (or the Nazis) liked X, so X is bad”, frequently used to denigrate vegetarians and atheists. Common Godwin's Law appearances include describing women's rights campaigners as “feminazis”, comparing the former US President George W Bush to Hitler, or saying Barack Obama's proposed healthcare reforms are the new Holocaust. In its broader sense it can be used to describe any situation where a poster loses all sense of proportion, for example describing New Labour as “Zanu-Labour” after Robert Mugabe’s Zimbabwean political party Zanu-PF. As well as the descriptive form, it can be used prescriptively: so if any poster does mention the Nazis in a discussion thread, Godwin’s Law can be invoked, they instantly lose the argument and the thread can be ended. fonewear said: » http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZ_z9Tpdl9A (not allowed to play outside of Youtube for some reason...) http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/06/04/street-harassment-survey_n_5445956.html?utm_hp_ref=women&ir=Women You're walking down the street trying to get to work. You see a group of men standing around, eyeballing you, then one of them lets out a "Hey baby," or something equally nauseating. This, unfortunately, is just a mild example of what a recent survey revealed -- street harassment is everywhere. The Stop Street Harassment Organization released a report, concluding that 65 percent of women surveyed have experienced some form of street harassment. Specifically, 23 percent have been sexually touched and 20 percent have been followed. Huff Post study, sounds legit to me.

I had been avoiding walking near it whenever possible, taking the longer route between my home and my bus stop. One day I had the *audacity* to just take the faster way home. I figured that if I just walked fast and pretended to be on the phone that I would be safe. Wrong. Several men, both on the ground and on the building, started to yell at me. A couple of them even approached the fence to get as close as possible, making vulgar gestures and remarks. When I got home I made this sign and posted it late at night. I used zip ties to secure it to their fence, facing the busy street in front of the construction site. They didn’t manage to get the sign down until 9am – long after all the rush hour traffic got to read my message. On the back of the sign, I included the definition of sexual harassment and a special message for the *** that made me feel unsafe in my own neighbourhood.” I think she just needs a hug.

YouTube Video Placeholder I've been on the streets of New York City a million times, never once saw any females being harassed. But that video is pretty convincing. Must be one of those things you'd only understand if you made yourself paranoid trying to look attractive to men all the time with no personality attached.

I got it! The only way to stop street harassment is to harass them back !
For every prissy twit who can't handle someone shouting stupid ***at her, I've seen another woman deliberately invoke that kind of attention. And I've seen more than my share of women make the same kind of comments about passing men, they're just whispering amongst themselves because they're more concerned about looking like *** idiots.
If someone grabs or stalks you, that's quite a different situation and, indeed, is prosecutable. But people shouting at one another for whatever reason is just the human condition, albeit a vaguely tedious one for some of us. Local college kids of both sexes tend to shout when I go biking past, particularly if it is the evening or if it's a group of us (I ride with upwards of 40 people some weeks). Sometimes they'll shout suddenly in hopes of startling me into crashing (thanks -.-) or just scream "***!" (clever -- it's just a blanket insult rather than a personal one, incidentally), other times they cheer because it's someone on a bike. I don't like people shouting for any reason outside of an emergency, but I'm not going to make a big deal of it, either. One of these days I will dismount, grab my 5 lb. steel lock, and force someone to buy dentures, though. I get similar treatment from various drivers using their horns, too. Some people enjoy being thin-skinned and unrealistic. It's a martyr complex. Repeating their *** just reinforces it, though. |
