Wages in the US
Well no one said you had to have kids. The idea that you can have kids doesn't mean you should.
Asura.Ivykyori said: » There are so many people working multiple minimum wage jobs, and still have problems paying the bills. And welfare? These families don't qualify, because according to the state, they make too much. There are also a lot of people out there who aren't responsible with the money they do make. I mean, why pay utility bills and waste money on basic luxuries like say, a bed, when you could be blowing your income on an iPhone and the most expensive service plan you can find? fonewear said: » Well no one said you had to have kids. And if you don't have morals you can sell them on the black market.
And if you want good wages work for the government. They don't do much and they get paid well. I would gladly cross over to the dark side and work for the very thing I hate. Asura.Kingnobody said: » Plus they are a tax write-off, better get lots while you can! Sylph.Tigerwoods said: » Assuming people who use "I make minimum wage so I'll do a ***job" get fired and replaced with competent people, I see no drawbacks to an increase in minimum wage. Sadly the reason why I left my 10.65 / hr paying job for a lesser paying one was because of the management (by the way, McDonalds has a way for you to get higher in the company, and just being a store manager was pretty nice pay in itself, so it CAN be a career choice, just gotta work your way up). I kept getting screwed over because of poor scheduling / favoritism towards other workers that were awful. There was a girl that pretty much screamed throughout the whole store one day pissed off and she didn't even get written up, yet there was one day when I got burned at work and it was an inconvenience to get someone to come in until I could go to the hospital. I dealt with burns for a good 2 hours until someone showed up. I honestly think anyone going into management needs to take a lot more MANAGEMENT classes and training than just "here go to this seminar for 1-2 days, congrats! You now have a piece of paper saying you know how a business works and how to treat your fellow underlings". Example: The Target I work at will only hire management "if" you have a college degree. (This is the only store in the region that does this, btw) They hired a manager recently that was fresh out of college with no experience at all, and she's one of the worst people to work with. Doesn't realize that not giving breaks is, you know, against the law? But hey, what do I know, not like I don't have experience or anything.. I'm just the underling. And for those who might think I'm contradicting myself, there is a difference between taking management classes and just going to school, unless you are going for business management alone. Education =/= experience. Also funny thing when I went to the hospital, the doctor gave me a cream for the burns which worked almost immediately. I told him the cream made it much better, but he said "well here's this just in case the pain gets worse". And there was the prescription for vicadin/oxycontin/one of those high powerful drugs I can't remember which.
Always fun to know my doctor wants me hopped up on useless drugs. Jetackuu said: » Fumiku said: » You think people should make 18 dollars working McD's? Then again I also don't think companies should favor unskilled labor to automation. But to answer your question: no I don't have a problem with companies paying their employees a living wage. Then again when it comes to McDonald's they should also give their employees a fixed schedule, but they don't do that either. Is it really that much to ask for the companies to pay their employees so the government doesn't have to subsidize their workforce? Or do you enjoy your taxes going to subsidize their profits? While they skirt a lot of their taxes because they're "job creators." Agreed. especially with the last two statements. They also have different laws between minors (or to a certain age) and adults for breaks. Edit: also sometimes industry differences in breaks. But if Target has a company break policy (which they probably do) then that manager would have been in violation of that anyways. Minors are only allowed to work a certain number of hours. Normally.

In South Carolina, companies are required to give their employees a lunch break of at least 30 minutes only if they work 6 hours or more in one shift. The company I work for is very careful with this law - employees can actually be written up if they clock in even 1 minute too early at the end of their lunch breaks. I'm not saying this about everyone else, just based on what I've been through. I personally don't have a problem with a younger boss and would like to encourage it, but with what I (not only me, but other co-workers I've had as well) have been through, that hope grows more and more dim. Shiva.Onorgul said: » Valefor.Applebottoms said: » Doesn't realize that not giving breaks is, you know, against the law? The only way to bypass it is if you sign a waiver before you get employed at an establishment, waiving your break/lunch rights. |
