Ochain PLD should have no issues with MP, and you're not tanking anything worthwhile without Ochain.
And it's called MP burn for a reason, if you're not running out, you're doing it wrong.
In a party setup, I agree.
Solo setup, I can find myself running out of MP while soloing Salvage II on BLU if I don't limit my spells towards the end (or limit them at the beginning and nuke away at the end).
BLU/anything should basically never have MP issues. You're losing DPS by casting most of the time, and if you're taking enough dmg that you're running out of MP on cures, you have the wrong sub/traits/gearsets or you're on the wrong job.
And having more MP just means you'd cast more and run out anyway.
Well having an extra 200+mp would mean not having to convert while SP2 is active to get the last couple of BPs off. I have aegis and with marches/haste/FC gear on reprisal time is minimal so can pretty much ride that with a fairly decent block rate its the times with out a brd it would help.

This is an... interesting move. As a healer, Galka are always preferable for frontline jobs. The extra Elvaan STR isn't nearly as beneficial in content right now, where defensive factors are critical. This will narrow that gap. I'm mostly just nit-picking though, Galka/Elvaan melee are all fine.
Anyway, give us a goddamn race change system so that I can change my hair color!

People complaining at getting something for nothing is comical in the extreme.
It's like me going into work as a £20/hour worker. And the boss saying, "Hey! Do you know, I think I'll increase your pay to £25/hour.."
And me thinking "Well that's just a pointless thing to do :/ Why would he even do that?"
And I remember vividly when they announced there was to be an xp boost years ago. (the first one)
And everyone whining.. "aw.. it'll just take EP's from 15 xp to 18 xp or something.. we'll never get anything good.."
Then SE just flat out doubled the xp in the update.
I forecast a big jump in HP/MP for the relevant races.
*edit* And yes.. A massive spam of butthurt Taru's and Galka's complaining afterwards lol.

Tarus are not going to complaining about this because they were the ones clamoring for it about a year ago. Like someone else mentioned, max MP is far less useful now because of how the game has changed. In the past when MP management mattered it hurt for Galka mages. Now with that more or less nonexistent there are almost only disadvantages to playing Taru.
And it seems as though they are not going to change the Stat differences outside of that, so even if they totally evened out HP/MP there's still like a 12-point STR difference between Elvaan and Tarutaru, and other such differences, which are still relevant despite what some think of the statvomit gear.

And me thinking "Well that's just a pointless thing to do :/ Why would he even do that?" Funny thing, that exact thing happened to me many years ago and I responded in exactly that way. As far as I was concerned, I was just doing my job (I worked in a really busy restaurant and half my co-workers had called off for the Sunday rush), but my manager felt I'd been doing well enough that he gave me a larger-than-usual raise midway through my shift. And then he had to explain why because I was confused.
So, yeah, just as denial is the first automatic reaction most people have to any kind of new data (no, seriously, watch how people are skeptical or respond negatively with almost 100% surety to news), a similar instinct seems to come with gifts. It's probably why we have the aphorism "Never look a gift horse in the mouth."

A part of me wonders if a Lv.50 PLD Galka actually has enough base MP to cast raise now...

There is a pretty huge difference between Taru and Galka when it comes to any front line job. With SE having gone insane and giving every Boss the ability to do ridiculously high damage aoe attacks, Max HP has become one of the most important stats for front line guys. Hell it's no longer about max DPS anymore it's about staying alive and whittling away the boss's HP while you let utsusemi tank for you. Your learning to live in your PDT set whenever your recasting shadows or their about to be down due to crap like Dominion Slash -> Shield Bash -> CDC, or Attack -> Dragon Fall -> Attack -> Fudo -> Fudo.

This was just announced a little while ago.
Could you please post the source of this same announcement from 2011?

Not going to dig, but they said back when they announced the new avatars that Cait would be normal and Atomos 2hour(back then)only.

I was kind of hoping Cait Sith would "summon" differently, so that he kinda shoots down from the sky in a magic bubble like in the WotG cutscenes, rather than emerges from a pentagram like the other avatars.

She still could. Not all of them emerge from the circle so to speak. Like Ramuh appears from a lightning bolt that strikes in the center if memory serves. Circle could appear and she could float down to it.

A part of me wonders if a Lv.50 PLD Galka actually has enough base MP to cast raise now... Nope > Level Sync 50 Before update: (Brothers char 50WAR + Synced 50 Galka PLD)

Taru: HP:735 WAR50/DNC25
Galka: HP:1066 MP:122 PLD50/WAR25
A Galka would need to sub WHM on PLD to have enough MP currently at 50 lol
--brb redeleveling links WAR (he didn't want it 50...dunno why it bothered him so much)

"After April" . . .
Greetings,
In regards to the previously announced changes to HP and MP for each race, the status of this adjustment has changed and I would like to give an update.
The development team has been working to implement this adjustment as quickly as possible; however, they determined that the HP of monsters that were associated with each race would also increase. (Program-wise, there are monsters that have their HP determined by referring to an HP table for each race.)
As adjusting every portion of this would take a considerable amount of time, we will be looking to make this change after April.
I apologize to keep you all waiting for this change, but we appreciate your understanding.

I wonder what mobs have their HP affected by the player stats tables. Probably things like Fomors.

And me thinking "Well that's just a pointless thing to do :/ Why would he even do that? This analogy isn't exactly accurate. A more correct analogy would be:
You and half of your coworkers work for £20/hour but you only get 1 week of paid vacation. The other half of your coworkers work for £16/hour but they get 4 weeks of vacation. Then your boss comes in one day and says that everyone will get £20/hour and 4 weeks of paid vacation.
However, this isn't real life. And real life analogies are still not going to accurately represent the situation. In this situation, people just enjoy the diversity. It makes sense for Galka to have more hp than everyone else. They are big. It makes sense for Taru to have less mp than everyone else. They are small. However, without a way to change race, and with the way this game is with job diversification, it's dumb to have such a big difference, especially concerning game balance.

already mentioned they can't do that because it would make the AH too laggy. need to remember, they're working with dreamcasts duct taped together as servers.

SourceSo I'm not a programmer, but...
Wouldn't it be roughly as simple as finding where player race queries the stats database, copy/paste/editing the thing, and changing the query to an updated player-only stats database? How spaghetti'd can the code get?

Yes, but the one unpaid intern they have working as game development lead on FFXI is stressed out enough, as is.

I am a programmer, and what you suggested is the kind of thing that leads to the spaghetti-ing of code in the first place.

HP & MP Updates from SE Forum
From Camate:
Greetings everyone,
Thank you for the suggestion. I've informed the development team that there are a lot of requests for a race change system.
In the meantime though, below is a comment from Producer Akihiko Matsui, which I think you will all be interested in reading.
We’ve been carefully looking into the individual characteristics of each of the five races, and based on the conditions of the current end-game content we have decided to perform the below adjustments:
Increase the HP of races other than Galka
Increase the MP of races other than Tarutaru
Each races HP and MP pool will still maintain the original hierarchy, but we will be increasing these stats to close the gap.
This adjustment is scheduled to be implemented in the March version update.
