Funny, the country hates "obamacare" the republicans provide several paths forward without it. The democrats refuse to pass any of them, and through their inaction shutdown the government.

But clearly this will be narrated as "those mean spirited anarchists (republicans) hate the idea of you getting healthcare so much that they would shut down the government over it".

No wonder people hate the main stream media...

How can you say that the country hates ACA? They have voted Obama back into office knowing it would move the bill along... The people have spoken...

Tell me this though... What does shutting down the government for the purpose of well lets just say there is no purpose because they know they can't get it stopped... ACA continues on and the only thing that changes is that people are out of work and government facilities are being shutdown... the pubs had no chance of stopping the aca and even this doesn't hinder it from going forward lol...

Five posts. it only took five posts before discourse and reason was thrown out. Both parties are to blame as we are. complacencey and apathy have given the most extreme elements in our country free reign over our legislative system.

The government shutdown isn't all about ACA. There are other issues at hand that creates this, it is just that ACA is the only one being mentioned on MSM to earn advertising revenue (since bad news sells better than good, they would rather have ACA fully enacted so they can publish stories on how bad it is, even though they are the only ones who are for ACA).

As for the government shutdown, maybe it will show people how to not be dependent on the government.

I highly doubt that though. Not now.

I just don't understand all the hullabaloo if the US Supreme Court already found it constitutional the first time there was a backlash.

It all reeks of, "Well, I'll just take my toys and go home then!"

/crosses arms, turns up nose, and sticks tongue out defiantly

Quite the gesture, but jeez! Isn't the GOP coming off as a bunch of lolly-gagging Mollies if they have to wait until the week before the ACA goes into action for their second round.

Nik... If you burn it all down they're just going to create another bureaucracy to manage, research, and regulate the fires. Then they'll no bid contract out the reconstruction and split the difference after they come in ten mill under budget by over estimating, skimping on materials, and using non union undocumented workers. I like what trying to accomplish, but you need to take a different route.

Obama did not campaign on Obamacare and Romney did not make it a central issue due to his role in MA. You know this, it wasn't that long ago. The election was all about the 1%, war on women and Bain Capital.

Anyway this shutdown is nothing although I'm sure the White House will go out of it's way to make it as painful as possible and the media will be right there to make it all seem so horrible. If you are devastated by a government shutdown, look inward and ask yourself how you allowed yourself to become so dependent on the federal government for your livelihood. I do not blame the politicians at all for it. I blame 100% the voters that time and time again elect people that promise to give them stuff and have bloated this government into an absolute monstrosity with its tentacles in everything.

ACA is wildly unpopular among people who know nothing about it... most people polled hate it but like everything in it. they say things like government takeover or that it makes poor people criminals. it's a pretty imperfect package, but it's none of those things. you can't blame the senate for refusing to negotiate, it's a frivolous distraction, trying to make it look like democrats are refusing to compromise... in reality, they're just trying to seize a destructive situation as pressure to accomplish political goals they haven't been able to legitimately.

who cares if there are real consequences, it's all about partisan ***.

Re-election does not equal a blank check for the party re-elected. Republicans were also re-elected to a majority in the house. I guess the people are "conflicted", so when you ask them directly what they think about the bill, poll after poll show little suppose for it which is dwarfed by the sentiment against it. Premiums are skyrocketing because of it. Keeping your DR. was a fallacy. It was all a big lie. I fully expect that in the months ahead you will see LESS people insured overall because of the new law than there were before the law was passed.

The law is a total disaster, unlike this shutdown where the post office will continue to loose billions by still inefficiently delivering the mail, air traffic controllers will still narrowly miss colliding planes into each other, and the military will still wage war, Obama thought that was important enough to pass. Social security, medicare, and unemployment will still get processed. What if the government "shutdown" and the public didn't notice?

The shutdown will affect Obamacare, it will slow it down. Kinda like, you know, Obama when he just unilaterally changed the law and didn't implement the employer mandate till after the 2014 election.

The executive branch of the government did go out of it's way to imply that the sequester will be harmful to everyone back in February of this year.

Didn't the Obama Administration say that there would be longer delays of flights because of less FAA employees?

Its ridiculously obvious the Tea Party strategy is delay Obamacare until they can repeal it. They can't tell you when that would happen but they know they will never accept it, so Obama is just going to drag them kicking and screaming like the babies they are behind him. Its time to see what Obamacare can do, no more delays no more crying, its in effect and its here to stay for a while. A long while from the looks of it.
The gov't is shutdown and yet Obamacare remains unaffected. So whats the point of it? For the Tea Party to look like idiots? Mission accomplished. Obama was right yesterday when he asked do we really think the fight will be over if he caves, no of course not the fight will be right back on again in 3 weeks with the debt ceiling. The Tea Party has made that clear, they have repealed Obamacare 45 times and yet here it is in effect.
The best part is it WAS going to be difficult for the Democrats to take back the House, but the Tea Party just made that road look a lot better. The 2 biggest threats to the GOP majority were a gov't shutdown and another lowering of the US' tax credit, yet the Tea Party doesn't seem to care. Of course, Boehner can end the whole debacle by putting the clean bill up to a vote, knowing it would pass. I'm sure everyone liked how he blamed the Senate last night while dodging that question of why he was choosing not to fund the government despite having the votes.

Nope, just the fault of foolhardy Tea Partiers representing gerrymandered districts that hate Obama so much they'd bring the government to its knees in the process. Many of these same constituents like Obamacare but because it says Obama, its socialist poison.

This is nothing but pride. The ACA must be destroyed because it represents Obama. There is no room for negotiotions because ultimately if you concede anything to the TP they'd want more and more until the entire ACA is repealed. Not being denied for pre-existing conditions? Children on parents healthcare till 26? Getting people who use HC to get insurance to prevent the situation where insurance holders have to pay for the uninsured? Market based solution for getting the uninsured, insured? All things Americans would enjoy.

Boehner is between a rock and a hard place. Even if he and Obsma could get to an agreement the caucus doesn't want it. They won't answer to their Speaker and those against the ACA have no other solution other than to repeal the law.

Political theatre until the debt ceiling really. If they have any extremist balls they'll muck that up and accidently the whole economy.
