Breaking Bad

Jesse's redemption has been secured for a long time. When Walt lost his real son, his(Walt) only chance at any semblance of dying with a token of fatherhood was saving his other son, Jesse. I believe he went into the compound with the intention of saving Jesse.

Then again, maybe that's my sappy hope that the hug in the desert so many episodes ago was real- that moment may have been the hardest for me in the show, with me sitting on my couch begging Walt to not say "I need this". Contrast that with the time he does say "I need this"- it's not said in a way where he is asking for a favor for survival, but rather asking for a favor to release himself after the "my work is done" sentiment.

...of course, even then Jesse's moral code wins out.


Now to ask the real question I have. Did the episode strike anyone else as too idyllic? Where was the moment where Walt didn't get what he wanted? I was expecting Walt Jr. to die tbh. Sins of the Father type ***.

I think Walt wanted Jesse dead when he mentioned him. I think he felt like Jesse was using HIS RECIPE for his own gain, and wanted to take Jesse down to.

I don't think his heart had changed from the cold ******* that had him dragged out from under the car.

When he saw the condition Jesse was in, and seen what he'd done to that poor kid's life, I think he had a change of heart.

I fully expected Walt to apologize to Jesse in their last scene. Not very Heisenberg at all, but Heisenberg was gone.

Btw, the obvious play for how Gretchen and Elliot could gift Flynn the money would have been: Walt: "You know what I really contributed to this company. You can save face on TV, I don't care, but you know my work is part of why you live in this house. All you have to say is 'This money is rightfully your father's and we'd think he'd want you to have it'."

Vince Gilligan said yesterday after the show that Walt went to the compound with the intention of taking Jesse down with everyone else because he was under the assumption that Jesse was working with Jack/Todd, not being forced to cook against his will.
