Probably not, to be honest. The main controversy of that election was that the state that had the terrible ballot issues, multiple recounts with varying results, and a supreme court decision to cast it's electoral votes against it's popular votes just happened to be the state that Jeb Bush was the Governor of.

If the 2012 race had been close at all, if the electoral college had cast it's votes in opposition of it's popular vote in a state where Obama's brother had even stopped at a gas station, there would be riots.

I miss me some FDR

I must say I'm guilty of romanticizing previous leaders based on the bullet points on their wiki page, I think we all are on occasion. If you look at what someone like FDR accomplished in is ~3 terms, I'm sure if you lived at the time, regardless of your political association, he did things that pissed you off.

I'd imagine that goes for even presidencies you lived through, Reagan and Clinton were hardly the champions of their party that people like to remember them as.

Every president is remembered better after they're out of office and moreso when a they get elected to an infinite term of death. The praises of Obama will be sung as soon as the next president comes in and the biopics start being churned out. We'll see a frustrated Obama being embraced by Michelle as he mulls how to get around a gridlocked Congress and the tension in the room as he orders the death of OBL.

In more topic worthy news the amount of people waiting for Syria to set off World War III is troubling indeed.

And right there is why his legacy will be crap. Instead of trying to go around a gridlocked Congress he should be trying to bring them together on their common ground like all good leaders did before him. It is an exaggeration and a terrible one for people to act like this is the worst gridlock ever. There is always gridlock; it is in a Republic's design. It is just the excuse for his lack of leadership to blame gridlock.

when the republican majority leader proclaims that they will do anything to keep him from getting things done and refuse to even talk about it, he's hardly the only one to blame. even newt was willing to sit down with Clinton. the current and previous HoR have been incredibly uncooperative and used every possible chance to keep things from getting done or even discussed intelligently.

that said, he is very ineffective as a president by virtue of his high road approach and the stigma of being a black guy with unconventional roots.

Oh please show me this Mitch McConnell quote you mention. I cannot seem to find it (because it never happened) but please do provide the quote for me if you can find it. How many times has President Obama met with John Beohner or Mitch McConnell in his 5 years as President?

And dude, seriously get over the President's race. Racism takes on the form of condescension and pity as well as hatred. Stop patronizing him.

There it is. I have not been a fan of the policies that President Obama have gone for, but on the same token the Republican Congress has been given us the other finger while they were given one to obama

(On a side note, SERIOUSLY!? I do one search on McConnell and now there is an ad for him on here......)

To get back on topic.....

I wonder if they will start dropping 3 days of cruise missiles like they are talking about on the news.

Stocks plummeted as soon as Kerry talked about the use of chemicals and WHO THE HELL LET BIDEN OUT?! WHO!?

Great! More casualties. That's just what we need. As if the images last week weren't disturbing enough. I hope Cameron has the sense to keep Britain from following us into another endless folly.

Cameron seems very gung-ho to go into Syria. There will be a special parliament session on Thursday to "debate" the military actions.
Quote:
Cameron said any use of chemical weapons was "morally indefensible and completely wrong," adding that any action taken "would have to be legal, would have to be proportionate. It would have to be specifically to deter the future use of chemical weapons".

Without spelling out any detailed plans, he signalled limited action. "This is not about getting involved in a Middle Eastern war or changing our stance in Syria or going further into that conflict … it is about chemical weapons. Their use is wrong, and the world shouldn't stand idly by."

This was also in the article which I find interesting. I hope it's not Iraq all over again.
Quote:
The UN investigation in Syria is due to last a further six days according an earlier understanding with the Assad government, though it could be extended by mutual agreement. However, Washington, London and Paris have all made it clear that they would not wait for the UN report to take action based on their own intelligence findings.

Begging your pardon, but it was Prescott Bush and Jack Philby (Hillary "Harry" St-John Bridger Philby) who gave the world the modern Middle east by converting sheiks to kings in order to to make the world safe for constitutional monarchies and empowering the radical Wahhabi sect in the process.

This happened a bit before JFK became president, or his father ran rum.

They were gyped! If I had that lineage, I would march straight to Vienna and demand my murder of crows to trail me!

Even though they're all intermarried at some point, the Saxe-Coburg and Hohenzollern connection between the two is closer than the Catholic Habsburg side, IIRC.

Furthermore, Prescott Bush was a senator from 1952~1963

Prohibition and rum running was from 1919 to 1933

SO in what alternate universe did precott bush's magical transformation of sheiks into kings happen before "his father ran rum"?

Paragraph breaks usually indicate a change. The sentence AFTER the paragraph break in no way mentions any Bush at all.

JFK is the subject of the sentence. The his in the subordinate clause therefore refers to JFK, the subject.

The Bushes were in the opium trade, not rum. And that long before America's prohibition. No that wasn't Prescott either.

"This" indicates the previous statement, which was prescott bush gave the world the modern middle east before jfk's father ran rum.

you're getting your liberal fairy tales mixed up. if you want to debate whether prescott bush was a nazi sympathizer that's fine, that has an actual basis in reality.

but the idea that he and John Philby were in cahoots before prohibition is prima facie absurd.

I cannot find the linkage to Philby online but it was sometime in the 1918 - 21 area. During prohibition. No, I can't find the dates of Joseph Kennedy's smuggling enterprise on line either.

Best I can come up with on the wiki:

Quote:
After Prohibition ended in 1933, Kennedy consolidated an even larger fortune when he traveled to Scotland with FDR's son, James Roosevelt, to buy distribution rights for Scotch whisky. His company, Somerset Importers, became the exclusive American agent for Gordon's Gin and Dewar's Scotch. In addition, Kennedy purchased spirits-importation rights from Schenley Industries, a firm in Canada.

But that sidetrack bait so please ignore.

Oh, I haven't posted on the topic at hand yet.

Yeah, I think we should retaliate because, even though I don't like him at all, our president has made a statement that if you do XXX, YYY will happen.

Well, guess what, XXX happened. We need to back up our statements.

But this will just begin WWIII -.-

(at least Japan will be on our side like WWI)
