I always disliked that aspect of metal and rock. A lot of it is just trying to be as cool and badass as possible. That just seems really superficial to me; I prefer something with an onz of intellectual value.

Any WHY? song has intellectual value, for example. Yeah I know I already linked that, but it's a great song. It conveys several emotions that can't be easily stated with words and I think that takes some true talent to do. It's easier to see them in this song as opposed to a lot of other WHY? songs, too, so this is a good example.

EDIT: Also, I really love seeing contrasts between the emotions in the instrumentation and the lyrics themselves, because it can convey a whole new dynamic. *** music is awesome.

I like when the emotion of the vocals and instruments synergize and paint a picture in my mind, but I also like the raw emotion an instrumental would do.
But when you have ***like for example, Job For a Cowboy, where they are conveying a message that doesn't hit home with me or with them even, it just doesn't work.
Let me break it down even further, just to 3 words.
Sincerity of emotion.
