It's kinda lame that they only discount the amount of POL accounts per active XIV accounts. Meaning if you dual box XI but only single box XIV, they'll only discount one account.
Also I'm not sure if their XI discount will be indefinite or only until the new year. It says "available" which is quite vague.

IMO they should just discount XI regardless since it will no longer receive development/content support post December.
But whatever. $7 is a nifty discount regardless, but it seems silly to juggle any more than one MMO at a time.

Well I know Alyria plays, or played, both WoW and FFXI at the same time. She's probably not the only one.
So let's say I reactivate my FFXI account for one day when I create my FFXIV character, just to get those Movement Speed shoes. Will that be the full 12.95 for FFXI or would I just get it for 7 dollars? Is it determined during the time that they actually bill you? If you have both active, you get a cheaper FFXI?

They are intending on releasing ffXIV the way it is, oh man I do not think beta is enough.

It'll only discount you the following month of XI for when your XIV account is active. So you'll wanna have XI running and make XIV account prior to the end of the month if you want the discount.

At any rate, I don't really think it's worth the trouble. Assuming a Movement speed+12%, anyway. It's barely noticeable in FFXI, so why bother. I'm sure by the time we hit a level cap, there will be other options that you can use for soloing NMs or something.

What I don't understand is why the 26th is a special day. Will it not discount you if you have both running before or after that day?

I think what they mean is if both accounts are active and being paid for by the 26th, the following month will be discounted for FFXI.
