Heh, I wish we were more popular than WoW, but alas, I think our selective audience has a significantly more enjoyable and mature player base than WoW has due to it's popularity and targeted audience. Which means less of this for us:

I like soccer because I played it for years when I was younger, I can't really explain why I like to watch it.
I agree friends + drinks + food makes sports more enjoyable, but there are some I still like to watch by myself

Not to mention it's also the cheapest sport to just pick up and play (just need a ball!). That alone makes it far more accessible to most of the world than any other sport/pass time. I'd say it's fair to assume that over 20% of the world enjoys it. Whether or not that same 20% has access to a tv to watch the world cup is another story.

Edit: Meshi I guarantee you though those people who can't watch will try to find out as fast as possible. I know espn set up viewing tents in poorer villages in multiple places across the world so those people could watch their country play.

You can't exactly take a break from the stresses of the world for one month. The world goes on if you're watching a soccer game or not. I'm not sure exactly what type of "worldly stress" that's bothering you right now though, odds are there isn't anything. AT MOST would be a small inconvenience that you might have to pay slightly higher gas prices with the oil spill.
