I don't get how people get so worked up over watching someone else play. I get bored easily and just can't get into it.

It's a little more exciting if you're actually with a group of friends and there's food and drinks and some other types of discussions going on. But if you're just sitting there watching by yourself, it's just extremely boring to me.

All the "cool stuff" will be on the news/internet on the highlights.
If you're just going to watch the highlights is there even a point to the game?
The point you're missing is what the world cup stands for.
Running is boring as *** but people watch it during the olympics.

Heh, I wish we were more popular than WoW, but alas, I think our selective audience has a significantly more enjoyable and mature player base than WoW has due to it's popularity and targeted audience. Which means less of this for us:

It's a COMPLETELY different story/atmosphere if you're actually there, within feet away, watching them. But when you're watching it on TV or online, it doesn't matter if you're a fan or even watching it at all.

What's the general consensus on "what the world cup stands for"?

As far as the olympics, people are just really biased, and for some it's an alternative to war. Saying how if America wins a bunch of golds they're better than everyone else.

You two make me feel bad to be American.
Srsly.

I'd like to see some kind of proof that any one specific thing besides sex is enjoyed by 20% of the worlds population. Especially when you throw 3rd world countries really old/young/sick people into the mix

I'm saying you should easily be able to see the value of it to the world. Is it that hard to understand, HMMM for 1 month ever 4 years no matter what else is happening in the world it doesn't matter. For 1 month people just sit down and have fun cheering for their nation or another.

I like soccer because I played it for years when I was younger, I can't really explain why I like to watch it.

I agree friends + drinks + food makes sports more enjoyable, but there are some I still like to watch by myself

Quotes are failing me.

@Das: Keep in mind that for many countries, soccer/football/whatever you want to call it, is the only thing they really have to bring everyone together. Not to mention it's also the cheapest sport to just pick up and play (just need a ball!). That alone makes it far more accessible to most of the world than any other sport/pass time. I'd say it's fair to assume that over 20% of the world enjoys it. Whether or not that same 20% has access to a tv to watch the world cup is another story.

Dasva quotes borked, but also eatting. I'd rate eatting pretty high. also it only needs to be ~16% of the worlds population to be over 1 billion, not that much actually.

Edit: Meshi I guarantee you though those people who can't watch will try to find out as fast as possible. I know espn set up viewing tents in poorer villages in multiple places across the world so those people could watch their country play.

ok, from what I've seen, I only watch highlights if I missed the game, but I make a damn good effort to watch the game.

As for all the ***going on, like I said, you don't like the WC, don't watch it. I don't like golf, so I don't watch it.

There's no point in sticking your *** in the air only to get it shot right in the crack by a .50cal bullet.

God damn, you fell right into that troll.

Just because someone doesn't agree with you, you don't have to act all offended about everything.

You can't exactly take a break from the stresses of the world for one month. The world goes on if you're watching a soccer game or not. I'm not sure exactly what type of "worldly stress" that's bothering you right now though, odds are there isn't anything. AT MOST would be a small inconvenience that you might have to pay slightly higher gas prices with the oil spill.

You are ignorant to politics and not worth wasting my time on. Get educated then talk to me.
