Film wise I'd say avatar was better. But half the epicness of LOTR comes from knowing the lore. Woooooo are you gonna come wtach all 3 extended copies with me?

I don't think it was overrated in the sense of the movies. They were compelling, exciting, exceptionally well made and pretty fantastic to watch (the numb butt part aside.)
But when you bring the book into the matter, then I feel they didn't do it justice. As standalone films they were awesome, epic, fantastic, etc. But compared to the book and the legacy and world Tolkien made, I don't think they quite do it justice.
But not a bad try anyway. It'd take many more than just twelve hours to fully portray the world and story Tolkien made.
And yeah, I read the book before the films. I just finished reading The Silmarillion as well. That was like the bible only I enjoyed it.

I watched them all a few weeks ago with my gf. I couldn't feel my *** aftwards. But would do it again anytime. All three back to back is something everyone needs to do sometime.

My biggest beef with the story changes was ignoring the fact it was Gondor that saved Minas Tirith because of the Return of the King... Not some undead army. Pretty pivotal to the story if you ask me, lol.

I saw the movies. I played the game (LOTRO). After that I immediately went out and bought the box set. There is/was an entire thread on the LOTRO forums for pointing out "easter eggs" related to obscure lore from the books. I got so into it.
Admittedly, I haven't finish all of the books yet. I don't travel as much these days. When I go to Korea again this year I'll take the set with me and finish it.

I need to read the back lore in the story, but right now I'm re-reading the Chronicles of Narnia :\
But I agree that as stand alones they were great, but they lack some of the lore(but if you had read you would know so it all meshes) simply because it would take to long to make XD. Same thing is happening with the 7 harry Potter films.

Not sure about Citag, s/he's new. Kiriyu is just an in-out kinda person. Says one thing every three days that every guy makes a big fuss over. Ludoggy gets really defensive since she's asian and underage (might be 18 now).
Artem is the wayward soul that makes you ponder the meaning of life by constantly reminding us life can suck. But he deals, and so do we. About the same for Savannah, except people are more "AWH!" to her because of a vagina involved.
Dasva is the ex military man (as is Krizz but this doesn't apply to him) who hates the world and plots a way to destroy most of it.
Number2 is kinda like a mix between Cai and I; never bashes, likes to laugh and has odd avatars. His current suits a lot of the convos this LS gets into. Barti is most well known for his moustache. He gives mousatche rides for a fee. I'm missing a few people but whatever. CARRY ON!
