Well my laptop works so i don't think the router is completely dead

You need to configure the router to recognize the ps3 as well as manually set up the ip address on the console, give me a few min I'm looking for that elusive link D:
Whenever I hooked extra stuff up directly to linksys routers always had to reset the router and/or modem before it would work. Also try connecting the PS3 directly to the modem. That will pretty much prove if it is the PS3 or the modem

Well updating the firmware has helped some ppl with the ps3/linksys issues you can try this it's said to be superior to anything linksys ever came up with. That's all I know to help D: gl ; ;

If you see this tomorrow, Chster, let me know if the problem still persists. Even if you weren't getting any connection from the ISP, the router would still allow you to have a network between your connected devices so it would still obtain an IP from the router if the router were both configured correctly to do so and of course ..working. lol
I've had zero issues getting PS3s to work with Linksys routers with their stock firmware. A few things can help here. Post the model # of the router as well as its current firmware. I would suggest restoring default settings to your router first, then using your laptop to change the default password and then setup your wireless channels while your laptop is plugged in directly with a cat5 cable. After you've chosen a WPA passkey for your wireless channel have your PS3 scan for local networks and see if anything pops up.
Using default settings on the router will disable MAC Filtering and several other options that shouldn't be on for a normal network. Unless you completely understand how they work and how to upkeep with them when adding new devices to your network, they should remain disabled.

In reference to Erim's post, are you the only user of the router/the only one who'd be configuring it, Chster? Are there any user/pass settings needed to be entered from the ISP?
Also, if you disable wireless security temporarily you can test whether your PS3 can access it as a troubleshooting measure, then re-apply afterward. It's really just a matter of checking one thing at a time to see where the problem lies. My initial guesses would be wireless security keeping it from joining the network, the DHCP IP limit being reached so as not to allow any more IPs to be handed out, MAC address filtering or some sort of misconfiguration on the router that would most likely be affecting more than just the PS3.
Knowing the model of the router can help with figuring out how to access the router's settings, generally by typing in the gateway's IP in a browser.
