I don't play anymore, but I played in a league for a few years with a bunch of ex-coworkers, about half of whom I actively despised (and one I really liked, which is why I was there at all).

Taking their money every year was a delight.

I can be thankful that the Cowboys already played. TV yelling causes spastic two-year old yelling. Both cause me yelling to "Keep it down!" Household yelling from September to January. It's magical!

His work league is based on a rotation for commissioner. Guess who got it this year? :/ He also has the college buddy league, so there is always the laptop plopped in his lap.

you could always plop down a laptop and play league. then you could be both be yelling at something

Actually, I should tow my laptop outside and see what the potential for lag would be out there. Flip on the radio to further drown out booming bellows. It would also take care of the monitoring of the turdly one running in and outside.

This would be the ideal scenario.

Ugh...Football season. Sunday. Football ALL DAMN DAY. Who is the *** who came up with fantasy football? The only upside to the invention of fantasy football is being the inspiration for the show 'The League'.
Germany gets 2 games every sunday evening on this first season for Free-TV^^
Yesterday we got the Seattle game first and afterwards Denver.

The NFL Europe collapsed 2007 and mostly consisted of German teams at the end. We have a German League since 1979, but barely gets any media attention.
Only the German Bowl gets into a Free-TV Sport channel. Quality is worse than at the times of NFL Europe because we don't even get the failed NFL rookies/outsourced Veterans anymore from America.

The NFL on the other hand is on the rise in media attention. For quite a few years we only got the Super Bowl, 2 seasons ago we got also the conference finals, last season the whole playoffs and this season 2 games live every sunday and very short recap of the others.

The 2 games get shown on a relativly new side-channel by one of the big private media groups with natural few watcher so numbers are very low. Although the first 2 games have been celebrated as success (130k (1.4% [normal for the channel is 1.1% at this time])in the beginning (7pm), 170k (4,5%) at the end (1am)), as it improved the usual quote of the channel. (the quote system in Germany is very buggy due to low amount of data)

The playoff games are shown on a more established channel of the media group and get better quotes of course. Would have to look up the same amount from last year though. I think it was double digit for the Super bowl at least.

To bring things into perspective: This sunday Handball, on a more known sport TV channel, got 190k watchers(1%) at 5pm,
around the same time on another relativly low spread Channel we had German Ice Hockey going for constant 100k watchers (quote range of 0,4-0,9%).
The US Open Final got 150k watchers which was 1% at this time.

So American football has potential in Germany, for the rest of Europe it looks not so good (that's at least my impression), but everything is overshadowed by football here.
When the national team played unattractive opponents in the qualification for next European Championship there were 10 to 12 Million watchers (~40%),
at last world cup it went up to 34million (86,2%) for the finale while never going below 26million for every other game with German participation.

Edit: Super Bowl 2015 In Germany:
pregame reporting: 23:15 1,47M (15,7% market target Group)
start of the game: 0:24 1,64M
Begin of second quarter: 1:00 1,5M (25,5% everyone, 39,6% target group)
Half time show: ~2:00 1,27M (42,7% target group)
Third Quarter: 2:30 1,08M (41,7% not mentioned if all or target group, most likely the latter)

Morning NI, you should probably go back to bed.

My god, do those vikings suck... This must be what it feels like to be a battered wife. every year I think, "this the be great, they're going to come out & win a bunch of games!!!" then every year, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPEEE, chuck testa. they suck it up again. OK, maybe it's not as bad as domestic violence, ramy, SORRY.

The daughter wants to wear make-up, winter is coming, & the end isn't even within sight. The situation is dire in the north, friends, but I hang on out of sheer spite...

ho ho ho, enough of that terrible nonsense. It looks to be a fine fall day, & the sun still shines! right? RIGHT! now with all of that badness out of the way, how fares NI? anyone stay up too late for far too little of reason?

FOOTBALL!!!

there is clearly something wrong with me. I have never been able to work up any enthusiasm whatsoever for football...

and some guys are so into it...they are watching high school football on friday, college all day saturday, the pros all day sunday and monday. they have fantasy teams and leagues and on line duels...

some of my neighbors put flags up of their favorite teams.... outside. one of them put up a Giants flag...

Well what was he supposed to do? Admit to being a Browns Ravens New Browns fan?

But meh. My only enthusiasm for football is that it means in another month...hockey.

Of course, this is the Pittsburgh region. So even though I really don't care that still means I watch the game and talk about it the next day.

I just don't involve myself with the rest of the nonsense...

Football is an escape. Nine times out of ten, the guys who really love football are the ones who are in dead end jobs and they're just miserable people based on a statistic I just made up. Football gives them the opportunity to fill their heads with nonsense like stats and these terms that leave me scratching my head (I swear, I heard my roommate use the word "hittingness").

Not that I'm any different. I just sink my life into video games and literature. We all need some way to get out of the droll monotony that is the working man's life.

nah, I don't think so. I think a lot of it stems from trying to live in the past. It was so much god damn fun to play. As a young man, I thoroughly enjoyed any activity that involved knocking the ever loving ***out of someone, & sanctioned ones were all the better. I eventually lost interest in favor of chasing women, & didn't give much of a ***again until I lived in downtown minneapolis, & games were a good reason for the entire city to get wasted and act like boobs, & I thought to myself "well, another excuse to drink? COUNT ME IN!!!" so in my early twenties I turned into a 'fan' if the definition is a dude who gets drunk & loosely observes fooseballs. over the years it's probably evolved in a bit more of a following just out of boredom. so I don't have any flags up or watch too much outside of vikings games, although those same dudes populate my neighborhood.

Well, okay. Take this thread, for instance. Why is it that the main personalities that occupy this thread only come on here during the workweek within the parameters of the workday? Is it because you love your jobs?

Signs point invariably to no. So, rather than giving 110% to a job you have to do to bring in the moneys, you'd instead spend it here acting curmudgeonly and making boycotts out of spite for funsies. This thread is the epitome of an escape.
