It's usually fine when a fight first comes out but after it's been out for a few weeks it's annoying when a few people know the fight and the rest go in blind and you just wipe and wipe and wipe. When you're timed at 60-90 minutes and each group does it it gets very annoying. If you've at least watched a video you'll have some clue of where to stand and what the mechanics do and it makes practicing the fight a lot less frustrating. This is only for Extreme primals and 8 man raids though, in 24 man and non-ex/raid content it doesn't matter. It's different from XI where you could just read a little about the fight and be alright, XIV is so much more punishing when you fail the mechanics and most people are tired of doing old fights and wiping constantly because a few people screw it up again and again. Yeah, I'm not even referring to pickup groups, I mean among the people I played with. No one ever wanted to try and figure things out. I do get it for pickups, which is why I did very little of that (and only fights I already knew). I see you have HA feet Rooks
I tried that fight in DF a while back to get DRG glamour and the amount of people who had no clue what to do because they went in blind... They completely ruined the runs because they had no clue how to deal with the mechanics even after I gave detailed explanations. It wasn't possible to win those runs because they didn't bother reading up on the fight or watching a video to learn placement. Even T7 was terrible in DF because people kept petrifying everyone We do stuff blind sometimes and just go in for fun but if there's a random then we look up the fight so we don't waste their time. Which is why it's best to do things blind when they come out or you'll just be rude to people by not looking it up (in my opinion at least)

It's the giving up before even trying that always kinda ticked me off. We die a lot before even trying because someone aggros
I died by touching the wall a few times in coil before they told me to avoid it
One time I stood around for 30 seconds after being raised (with LB so no confirmation window) and watched Nael beat the crap out of everyone. We wiped at 3% Another time we got past Heavensfall and I got dc'd for not paying and they all died lol I once got Phaffi in DF, I have a screenshot of him dead.
EDIT: A lot of mechanics are pretty obvious, but some are just plain bad design. I don't mind playing blind unless I'm hindering my group. Really, I just kinda do whatever the group wants.

I wish we had some more random and telegraphed (but no aoe circle) attacks instead of instakill mechanics all the time, I think that's more fun Bismarck.Dracondria said: » I wish we had some more randomn and telegraphed (but no aoe circle) attacks instead of instakill mechanics all the time, I think that's more fun Yeah, I loved Thornmarch. Also fights like Singularity Reactor are fun

Once you know the dance, you can almost avoid all danger. It's when stuff goes wrong that I get excited. Lately I've found myself looking forward to the tank or healer flooring in roulettes when I'm on summoner. Nail biting, kiting, attacking your abilities and riding cooldowns to pull off a win or recover a wipe. I like to feel like my abilities are the focus, not my pavlovian conditioning. Something I hear a lot from a friend is that XI was more difficult but honestly, I feel it's much more forgiving than XIV. You can have lots of people die and still recover in XI but in XIV you're kinda *** on dps checks if too many are weakened or there's some mechanic that requires a certain amount of people to complete.
Most strategies were just "burn it and stunlock" or "burn it while tank holds it/spam cures on tank" Not like you had to move or anything a lot of the time. Not saying it's worse (because I enjoyed it a lot more when I could type and still do well) but I think a lot of people look back at XI with rose tinted glasses and they forget what it was actually like for most of the game. Soundtrack was superior in pretty much every way though. Spend some more time on it instead of whining for 10 pages on the OF.

If I can't faceroll everything blind with randos on the first try, it is bad/broken/unfair/elitist/etc. Must go to forum and whine instead of trying harder. Siren.Mosin said: » I wish I liked 14... I'm not crazy about the game, but I like the people I play with, and that's enough. Having a house has helped a lot to keep me busy when we're not doing anything since I like to make furniture and stuff for my room or tweak the inside of the FC house a bit
Building things in the workshop is kinda fun too When we didn't have a house we'd just hang out at camp Tranquil and that was pretty shitty lol Bismarck.Misao said: » :V next paycheck lol
got what I wanted and can move on. can also blame it on FC Drama lol Now I'm curious

Are you still dabbling with ESO? Is this our mandatory quarterly, "Man I miss XI! Would I go back to XI? Would I go back to XIV for the hell of it?" handwringing session? I look back on those times favorably, but if one of them invited me to go to the beach now, I'd think they'd lost their mind, lol. Leviathan.Chaosx said: » Siren.Mosin said: » I wish I liked 14... So if the game was free and first month was free I'd at least give it a try for myself, otherwise, nah. This is my biggest reason for watching let's plays. Games used to have demo versions or trial periods, now you have to spend 60+ bucks on the game and a sub fee with MMO's just to find out if you even like it. It keeps me from playing a lot of games I might otherwise be willing to buy, and keeps the dev's from getting paid because people determine games to only be worth the used copy price. |
