Casual Friday, the beau has an affinity for Columbia and Magellan aerated fishing shirts. You're old men now!

Did someone say there's a sale at Nautica!?

I was surprised to see Nautica was still alive and kicking at an outlet mall last year. J-crew and Banana Republic are the ones I hit up for non-casual.

/old

I've got a few things from Nautica I like that were bought for me.

Honestly I don't do a ton of shopping at any of those places mentioned because at outlets the 2x stuff is always super-picked-over and in regular department stores 2x stuff sells first and never goes on sale.

Maybe more in the future though. I actually am running out of clothes that fit. I've been on the border of 2x-3x for so long that I've been buying larger for years to make sure things weren't too small, and now I'm, well. There's less of me to fill the clothes with. :x

There's a lot of great reasons to work from home, but I'd be lying if I said "no pants" wasn't pretty high on the list.

I keep hoping. There's no good reason my job couldn't be done from home, but they give a lot of reasons nevertheless.
you can't be trusted. There are plenty of good reasons why employers don't allow employees to work from home full time even if it could technically be done from your home.

Pipe down, sugar britches. I already said they give plenty of reasons that, on the surface, make sense. And really, as long as the justification makes sense on the surface, they're not upsetting the status quo. :p

I feel like my Ralph Lauren wardrobe either pings the radar as frat bro or old man golfer after reading Zah's remark...

I know we've gabbed about comfy Sperry's. Don't care. They're nice and cushioned.

What's weird is, I really can't stand traditional malls anymore. Open-air or GTFO! (Quick points of egress when it gets so crowded that people lose all sense of humanity.)

It's more than "on the surface" though... The most common being that output falls when not in the office.

Whoa whoa whoa...
What's wrong with plaid shorts?!
I'll rock my plaid shorts and boat shoes all day! I mean unless I'm actually golfing. Golfing in boat shoes would be terrible.

For starters, I'm translucent, not transparent.

Anyway, my whole company is remote. Our "office" is a POBox somewhere. I miss having a real office some days, but that's mostly a function of actually liking my co-workers.

When gas prices here were over $5/gallon and the recession hit, we were upped to ten hour days for four days a week on rotation. We still had to have the work crackberry on us at all times despite respective "days off".

I'm more surprised that gas hit over $5 a gallon in TX... It always seems to be cheaper there and Chicago barely ever hit the $5 mark.

Like I said. Maintaining the status quo is easier. Your points are obvious and enough to dissuade it from happening. I just don't think they're particularly true in the case of what I do, especially when it wouldn't even be an every-day thing. It'd be -- at most -- a 50/50 split of office and home time.

Again, all hypothetical, as it doesn't matter, it's not happening.

$5/gallon gas in an oil-producing state.

Nothing seems off about that.

Run on gas at the pumps on a daily basis. Don't really care what the internet says.

EDIT: Maybe it was 2010? Seems like a millennia ago.

Highest gas price was in Alaska at $4.69.

EDIT: Actually there were some places in rural Alaska that were charging up to $8 a gallon.

Swiped an unused monitor so now I have 2. Considering taking the nice LED monitor from the server and putting this crappy one there... but I do enjoy the nice monitor when on the server.

Decisions.

Unrelated: I love how people get so defensive when I tell them what they are complaining about is literally impossible to not be user error. They are complaining how "something shows up on one computer but not the others."

The computers in question are workstations which pull ALL their data from the server.

"No, it happens all the time. It's not us, watch I'll show you."

It has nothing to do with maintaining the status quo... You only feel this way because it's something you want. You're ignoring actual evidence that shows that employees work more efficiently in office environments.

I've been a part of an office where they've tried out moving certain parts of the business to home work spaces and it ended terribly without worker performance dropping pretty drastically across the board. Some people need the right environment.

There's also the cost of getting people set up and then dealing with technical difficulties or relying on their phone lines or net connections....

If you can make it work and you have a motivated staff then sure... but in general you end up with a pretty undesirable outcome.

Why aren't you just remoting to the server?

As for the other bit:

end users are stupid, as people still treat computers as a "nerdy" thing, instead of requiring computer literacy for job positions.

I tell people it's because all technicians carry special magnets that make machines work when we are near them.

it was 2008. we took a trip out west to yellowstone and mount rushmore etc, hoping that the high prices would keep everyone else at home.

worked like a charm!

Nah. We're definitely doing so. We're getting everything in order, researching what first-time homebuyer stuff is available where we'll be buying, etc. Figuring out what we can afford, what we will and won't compromise on our list of wants in a house. Things like that. We've got a pretty solid idea on the latter.

I miss buying them toys like the giant motorized ferris wheel..k'nex iirc....even though that toy did start a huge fight when the younger one waited for the older one to finish it and then wrecked it.

Can't wait for the K'nex era of dexterity. Duplos ain't cuttin' it right now.

I wouldn't wear pants ever if society weren't so damned rigid.

Shorts, kilts, or NOTHING.

I largely stick to pants like these for work.

Casual Friday, the beau has an affinity for Columbia and Magellan aerated fishing shirts. You're old men now!
Dress shirt and jeans, pretty much every day. Works if I need to be in the office, in the lab, in production, or with customers. Just need to be aware of items that have the potential for snagging.
