We don't necessarily have more than other people, but we seem to interact with them so much more...(and, at least in my case, they're not all true "cousins", but first/second/third cousins once/twice/thrice removed, step-cousins, etc.)
If I've mentioned the cousin who stole a car, went on a high speed chase- well, never mind that, we aren't related. (That's actually a cousin; son of my dad's sister.) My cousin who I mentioned adopted two girls before, my cousin; daughter of my mom's brother.
