The father's opinion does matter though... mainly because, and I'm assuming this from experience, that his fiance wants to maintain a good relationship with her family and well isn't he paying for the wedding? Tradition does state that the bride's parents fund the wedding... so I mean if you want to throw tradition out the window throw it all out... It's about respect in the end... respect for your wife to be and her family... and as long as they're not abusing her or asking for something completely unreasonable I see no reason to not respect their simple wishes...

Granted they can go and do whatever they want but the father can also choose to do what he wants on his own based on their actions...

Also... I'd take it as a compliment that he doesn't want you to see her in the dress before you get married... means he wants it to succeed...

Row, I have a message for you.

This marriage must succeed. Do not falter, do not fail. Sure, you will have your road bumps. All relationships do. But obstacles will help you both grow and just bring you closer. If you're not in it for the long haul, then you're not in it at all.

But most importantly: I will only give you a wedding gift once.

I know, I know. I just think traditions are silly. I'd just like to hope that relationships are based off of love, compromise, companionship and communication! Instead of getting bad luck for seeing the person you're going to spend the rest of your life with on a specific date.
They are... but there's more to it than that as well... you don't have to believe in the tradition to go through with it... I think it's a small price to pay to go through the motions to make her family happy... I mean is it really that much to sacrfice to not see her in the wedding dress before you get married?

True but she might take the traditions very seriously.

I put my Christmas tree up over the weekend.

It's about 12" tall, made of ceramic and lights up. I know, you're all jealous.

That is one of the dumbest, most short sighted, self centered, self destructive, doomed, forever alone guy statements I have ever read. You have my pity. Her father becomes Row's father in law at the wedding, you idiot. Money aside (though that was also an excellent point flav)

Whether you realize it or not Row is going to marry his fiance's entire family and thus will be subject to their scrutiny and traditions forever.

Some of them seem benign like the not seeing the bride in her dress before the wedding one, others will be more intrusive, like what time/day they will celebrate all the holidays, especially after they have children. We are watching, in real time, as captain row spots the tip of an enormous iceberg off his bow. Your advice to completely disregard his fiance's father is so bad you see if there are any plastic bags laying around large enough for you to fit in and zip closed.

'Cept that's not what I said, and there's no reason for you to be a huge enough *** to tell me that I should I should kill myself.

Row and his fiance should adhere to the traditions they want and not feel held hostage by the desires of the father. They are starting their life together. This is Row and whatshername's time to start their family: not to be held hostage at every twist and turn because of the desires of the family's.

They are giving each set of parents the opportunity to join their family now: gone are the days where we beg for entrance into some other family.

Their lives contain their families lol... to some people, Idk about Row's or his Wife to be's family, family is extremely important and a big part of their lives...

Held hostage is such an inflamatory descriptive to be used when talking about not seeing a bride in her dress before the wedding day... not to mention we make little concessions like that all the time... now he can do whatever the hell he wants for sure but he also has to live with the consequences that brings...

Besides that... whether or not the tradition is inspired or wanted by family they will have to make the choice on whether to adhere to it or not in any case... but like I said they will also have to live with the consequences... no one has to approve of the wedding or has any say if they can or can't just like her parents don't have to show up or contribute towards the wedding... and your right they are getting an opportunity to join the new family but the ones getting married are also getting the opportunity to jon a previously established family as well...

You get so bent out of shape over nothing really though...

This is all pretty funny to because I don't think Row even really cares one way or the other lol...

lol for some reasons weddings just bring it out in people....

Fifty bucks says Mosin already has the spot picked out to dig the gigantic hole he plans to bury anyone like Xueye that shows up to marry one of his daughters talking about how they are honoring him by allowing him to join the Xueye family....

Hell I have one and I don't even have any daughters!!!...

<- can hear the beeping sound of the Mosin's back hoe backing up to pack down the fresh dirt over top the newly filled grave
