What would be the best way to convert something like 1000 songs from .flac to something I can play with iTunes?

If you have a mac, you could download Fluke which is a plugin that allows itunes to play FLAC. If you have Windows, try xiph, an unofficial plugin that does the same thing for windows version of itunes, but sadly is somewhat dated. Do what you can to avoid converting flac to a lossy format.

Yeah, you definitely want to keep it in flac if it can be helped. It's a lossless codec, meaning it is not compressed, thus no quality is lost. Granted, you'd need some high quality speakers/headphones to hear a difference from say 320kbps ogg, but having it in it's optimal form is ideal. Carry on, my wayward son fellow audiophile in the making.

:P

I've been interested in learning more about high quality audio. I think I can tell the difference between some 128 and 320 bit songs, but I may be kidding myself. I don't really have the gear for it anyway. I would like some decent IEM ear buds though, I just don't want to spend the money on them right now.

No, you're definitely on the right track. I remember stumbling upon my old music files that I ripped in 128kbps after having listened to my more recent 320kbps, and it sounded like poop in comparison. But the best part about technology and having an ear for this thing is you can typically get "second best" equipment for super cheap, because new stuff is constantly coming out, and the predecessors hit rock bottom prices thereafter.

For being on a budget, these babies are pretty boss. They're entry level, but have very loud, and clear sound. Even some other headphones I've purchased before that were like $50+ didn't give as definitive highs or mids compared to those. Of course to take a step up would cost you $100+, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

What do you play music through usually? Stereo, pc, or mp3 player?

Headphones when I'm on the go or have intimate listening sessions. That sounds wrong, but essentially really getting into my music and having a particular set of music in mind. I use my speakers otherwise assuming it doesn't disturb others around me. I just got a new set for my birthday and they pack hell of a punch. But general rule is: Headphones give better fidelity than speakers.

Baby steps I guess!

I just got rid of my ipod and am using my phone for music while I'm on the go. My laptop otherwise.
