It's easy to be successful when you appeal to fans of Halo and the like.
It's a smart move, nontheless. You can even tell SE is going for that in XIV, just failing.
Huge difference between disliking a game but understanding why it's successful and just hatin' on it because it's mainstream/popular.
I'm not saying WoW doesn't have its merits. It is popular and successful for many reasons, however it quite simply isn't my cup of tea in the end. Mainly due to the stale and emptiness of social interaction. It felt like I was playing a single player RPG with bots that occasionally throw fits of nerd rage.
Anyways, I think FFXIV failed mainly due to SE's complete lack of necessary advice and criticism from the fans and their inability to compile elements from previous and their own MMO into a productive manner. So instead we got something that looks pretty, lags like hell, has a cheap useless interface and little to no content that even with what is available is questionable as to whether it's worth bothering playing.
I've still got hope for XIV. They need to make the PS3 launch perfect pretty much, but it could come back.

With enough small changes it could be so damned good.
If they made some core software adjustments so it plays nice with multi-core processors and SLI/Crossfire and just general functionality and fixing some minor server side lag issues along with all the other gameplay/interface based issues and add more decent content, that would be wonderful.
Well Everything is currently out of the case, and the motherboard I sent back to Asus is chilling there, haven't heard back from them yet....

As much as I love SE for their creative minds and making something unique with every release; I sometimes wish XIV was simply a super awesome pretty version of XI. Something about it just keeps its charm with me. No matter how pretty XIV looks, I still love XI more.

It was unfortunate that OP was a complete and utter twit, but I admire his concept of reviving old content and zones to be enjoyable and yield rewards, but unfortunately his method of going about that was pretty lulzy.

Oh man I would love to visit a new player server only. Even though I'm an old and experienced player, I recently started over to give myself a false sense of security of reliving the golden years, it would truly be authentic if the people around me lived it too ya know?
