the joke is that there is no such thing as toned
Can you give a reasonable answer to this without bias/bullshitting/insulting?
there is muscle and there is fat how "toned" your muscle appears to be depends on how much fat is covering it, it has nothing to do with the muscle therefore the people who do high reps to get "toned" are a running joke in the educated lifting community

Actually Sev, high rep 'toning' workouts as you call them are excellent fat burning exercises and gradually tighten the skin around the muscles being worked, so it's highly effective if you are trying to tone up.

Perhaps you should educate yourself with all aspects of exercise so you are not misinformed before you shoot your mouth off at other people.

if you want to burn fat you do cardio

it burns calories at an exponentially higher rate than high rep weight training

skin tightening is diet, your skin cannot tell what type of weight you are lifting and it doesn't care

you are confusing urban legends with knowledge

I'm not claiming to be an expert or experienced in anything.
I'm simply saying just because one has a reasonable objective in a health related sense doesn't make it incorrect or unjust.
Sure, there maybe a degree of counter-productivity in incorrect technique or lacking variety in exercise types, but to put such a duality in either labeling someone a gym pussy or going all out is just ludicrous.

K first off. LOL.

1. Low weight high rep exercises IS CARDIO, I'm going to assume you know what cardio means and how it is categorized...

2. Skin tightening is diet? Um wat lol? Ok so I guess if I eat like a lizard I'll get tight skin because they have tight skin right!?

Diet does not tighten the skin dude it dictates what is underneath it. If it did then people who undergo radical weight loss would not be left with saggy heaps of skin.

when you quote someone who is spouting oft repeated knowledge and saying "This."

that's a pretty strong implication you have the knowledge to make that judgment

i think you'd have to be a gym rat to understand

you go to the gym to accomplish something, and it is filled to the brim with people who clearly don't give a ***

they sit on the machines, taking 5 minute breaks between each set while watching one of the tvs

every january, the new years resolutioners flood in, and you can't get jack ***done

keep at it for a few years, and you get pretty fed up at the people who are there constantly, taking up your machines and getting in the way of your workout while doing nothing for themselves

after a while you stop being polite, and you tell them they need to get off the machine if they aren't going to do anything with it

it's a "you have to do it to understand" situation

I somewhat understand what you're getting at. But you gotta take your ego out of the picture. Their purpose or objective is no less as valid as yours. Sure they may not meet their expectations due to lack of will or ability to cope with a reasonable game plan but to put yourself above anyone just because you can do more or want to do more is still lame.

Our issue is no longer about what is right and wrong, it's about your attitude.

i know what cardio is, both the broader definition and what a bodybuilder or lifter means if he says "i'm gonna do some cardio," which is treadmill, bike, elliptical, etc.

the latter type of cardio is what you'd want to use to achieve a "toned" look, which is actually just having bodyfat. diet will aid this even more than cardio. abs are made in the kitchen, not the gym.

skin "tightening" is achieved through water restriction precontest

it's not going to occur through high-rep training, though, like the toning myth, it is a persistent rumor

spend some time on bodybuilding.com

i swear this feels like i joined a shout ls and i'm the only one who's read bg

Oh I understand exactly where you are coming from, the number of people I see even at a small local health club who don't have a clue what the hell they are doing is quite worrying and don't get me started on 'new years resolution' people who last a whole 2 weeks.

However, if an old lady wants to do some exercise while she watches TV or reads a magazine who are you or me or anyone else to say otherwise. Same goes for the annoying *** who decide to spend 5 minutes on every machine in the place, 9/10 they just want to do some exercise they don't care about building muscle or becoming seriously fit. At the end of the day if you go to the gym with a goal then usually you will have a little bit of knowledge on how to achieve that goal.

What you need to bear in mind here is that in these modern times there are gyms and there are health clubs. If you want to be around hardcore lifters and people who know what they are doing when it comes to bodybuilding and working out, go to a gym, a real gym not a health club advertised as a gym. If you go to a health club you have to bear in mind that alot of people go there for leisure or to chill out, not necessarily to achieve anything big.

My point is that you should have a bit more consideration for other people, not that you should move. Stop acting like you have dominion over every person that walks through the doors of the gym your at.

As far your above comment about skin tightening and water restriction, that's professional talk, not the kind of skin tightening everyone else is referring to. Yes diet plays a big part, but only as big a part as the exercises you are doing.

ok

there really isn't such a thing as toning, at least the "toning" your average lifter thinks he's doing

if you want to give that name to fat loss for the sake of using a misnomer, be my guest, but it's fat loss.

i don't get why some of you can't see the parrallel between this and ffxi

there's nothing actually "wrong" with tping in zero haste

but when there are better options available for the same amount of effort

most of us(including me) still lol at it

why go into a gym and do the wrong thing when you can get actual results with less time and similar effort

it's inefficient and it's lol, just like using good gear in a bad way

all this is is a case of me approaching lifting like thorny or veggetto approaches xi

and just like them, i'm not going to soften my stance on it because it is hurting feelings

Lol... ffxi is all numbers and formulas so when someone like Tiger puts up his numbers you can't argue with that because those numbers are 100% accurate. You are not 100% accurate when it comes to fitness and exercise.

It's become quite clear you have a base knowledge from lifting but you don't understand the academic side, you don't understand the science and biomechanics behind what you are talking about, your 'facts' are sketchy and your knowledge is, like I said, misinformed. Therefore I don't think you can claim you know how to do it better than everyone else.
