How is the game?
Honestly, find another game and save your money. I used to love this game but it just went downhill. Under the current director (Matsui) this game has lost all hope.
SE's deep and through understanding of male fashion is as good as always.

Considering only 1 NA linkshell has even won Tojil and it wasnt yours....maybe you should jump servers. Killing 5 nms and tojil is pretty rewarding and it only takes 45 min. I've joined a couple of Beansl's 5 NM shouts and all the Dreamatorium members had the Tojil title and a bunch of their MNKs had the Oatixur. I asked him and he said they cleared it twice so far. That was a couple days ago. He said they run on Mondays so they could have cleared it a couple more times. But that's not really on topic, I was just pointing it out. On topic, I agree with pretty much what everything that everyone has said thus far. I don't know if I could ever return to the game after a 2-3 year break. I would feel way too far behind and overwhelmed to even bother. As it is now whenever there's a damn update I feel overwhelmed with all the new content and new gear I end up avoiding the game for a while lol. I guess it all depends on the person and the reasons you stopped playing/want to return. But wait, that's not all. In the next update, they'll add more content that involves, you guessed it, more grinding. I really use to hate grinding levels back in those days of that video, but now I actually miss it ;(
roll DRK buy senbaak, faceroll into a linkshell that beats megabosses
Forgive me, but I am so sick and tired of hearing how this game is on the decline, that you are overwhelmed, whatever. It hasn't changed in 11 years. What has changed is you. The game was MUCH more grindy in it's earlier run. With the XP rate change it takes way less time to lvl when playing the old school way, forget about Aby and other places where you can leach. Get back in, go play. And don't listen these people. Try the game. It is certainly cheap enough and you get a month trial. Worst your our is, what, 30 bucks? Hell, I'll pay that 30 if it brings in a new player. Find me on Asura. /tell Braidyn and I can hook you up with people that yes, still do play the old way. In fact... just yesterday, in Windurst Woods I ran into 5 new players. All having a blast. This game hasn't declined although it has evolved. You just need a good linkshell, and players that will help.
Just because you saw 5 new mules "having a blast" from running through a town, doesn't change the fact that in actuality, the game is in decline. Server population on the majority of servers is low, and with the addition of the new age of FFXI, these numbers aren't increasing, infact it's quite the opposite, my ignorant friend.
It's definitely in a decline. The whole concept of grindy is subjective. I'm still very grindy, except its grinding nms for plasm instead of exp.

I love FFXI, which is why I'm still here, however saying it's the best game ever is blind love. Adoulin, whilst still not completed is not that great of an expansion, to me at least AU is worlds better under every aspect(except the tag system, Adoulin wins on that).
And then there's the vertical bump they gave the game, I'm not really saying it's a bad thing in itself, however if you like being at the top of the food chain you can't take breaks anymore(pending direction of future updates). Even if you're not concerned about being at the top it seems like it'll be tough to take a break, with people not having much reason to do earlier stages of content (like field NMs for Delve). But as you said, it depends on future updates, too. Leviathan.Celille said: » So just to be clear, mahvels next or what? Cause you know I only came here to watch mahvel. Mahvel is everything. For me personally it's still fun. The people in my ls make the game fun and not full of ppl who think you should have the best gear/weapon to do stuff. A lot of content still worth doing imo.

I think the original poster left this thread on page 1.

What mmo is better than ffxi? All MMO are better than FFXI and FFXI is better than all MMO.

Agree with this, except for the AU part since I wasn't around for most of that :( Although this same topic has been brought up repeatedly for the past couple months and the same points have been made over and over again, I think the game's okay, but I only get to say that because I'm fairly caught up. People who aren't caught up are going to struggle getting things done if they can't find others to do the content with. I'm not nearly as optimistic as others in this regard, and that I'd be more inclined to believe more people are leaving the game than entering, as they grow tired of shouting for hours trying to get old content done to catch up. Speaking as someone who due to work obligations was forced to take an extended break from the game and got back four months after Seekers of Adoulin was released, I've decided (for myself) that this game isn't worth my time anymore. Of course, all players' situations are different. It's not just the fact that I missed out on the beginning of the expansion and therefore have to struggle to play catch up after all the major rush has already taken place, it's also the fact that most of my friends I was attached to before I left have also taken off. That one was pretty much my killing blow. I still play the game for now out of boredom, but I'm not really having fun with it. I've resolved to leaving when A Realm Reborn launches and making a new beginning there.
So OP, I would ask of you: 1) Did you leave this game due to getting bored with it? Or did you leave due to real life reasons/obligations? 2) Do you know if you still have friends of yours on your server to play with? I certainly would not recommend against giving the game in its current state a shot to see if it's something you want to play with. However, like everyone here as mentioned, it will not be the same FFXI as when you left. Good luck to you! |
