As topic says. I was in game and all of a sudden I was kicked out. When restarting the game POL installed some kind of patch or something. After that installation game wouldnt start when I used windower, so I tried to start it without windower. Got a message saying the shortcut was broken. I went to check the Playonline folder, and everything except for tetramaster is gone from that map.

Has anyone else has this happen to them? Now I have to download the game over again, and do all the damn updates thats gonna take hours :(

PlayOnline invokes a piece of software called "Windows installer" every time you try to check files or launch a PlayOnline based game.

The path listed on your picture links to a file which is generated when the game is first installed. Since your install is now damaged, I suggest you find the folder with the game files, temporarily move it away and re-install all FFXI discs. Once that's done, you delete the FFXI folder and put the old folder back at the place the newer files were installed. Basically that should fix the linking of FFXI with POL once again.

At most you will be forced to do a full filecheck when you try to play (it's a post install file check).

The thing is that my FFXI folder completely dissapeared. Its nowhere to be found. I dont have the physical discs. I downloaded the program you use to install ffxi from playonline.

After removing everything FFXI related from the registry, I dont get that error anymore. However when I try to install now the installer program think I want to uninstall the game, just to tell me the game cant get uninstalled because its not installed...

But its not giving me an option to actually install it..

My computer must somehow believe the game is installed on the computer, since it insists that whenever I launch the intsaller program I want to untinstall the game rather than install it. Does anyone know how I can change that?

I was gonna try a different system restore point. But as I have been doing stuff trying to fix the issues, my earliest restore point is now 1 hour ago :(

Try a virus scan, and if no signs there check your hard drive sectors for corrupted data.

Found a program that scanned for stuff in the registry. It found more stuff that was tied to playonline and FFXI. Had it remove everything and now I'm atleast able to install.

You can try moving the rest of your PlayOnline (or in this case Tetramaster) folder to a different location like a different HD or Flash drive and try to reinstall if that it possible with your setup.

I had already deleted tetramaster and the POL folder after I noticed that everything FFXI related mysteriously dissapeared all of a sudden.

It seems that according to my registry the game was still installed. That is fixed now though, so now I only got a million hours of updates to look forward to :(

That sucks, but at least you were able to get it fixed and working again, and hopefully can get back on soon.

Yeah, I got no idea what happen. I was in game not doing anythign special, was gonna change job and level my subjob. All of a sudden I was kicked out, not like normally where you get a warning or an error or anything. FFXI window just completely got shut down and POL didnt show up until I started it. Then it did a small update with some patch, and after that the whole FFXI folder was gone.

Now after I install and update the game I'm gonna copy the whole folder and put it on my external HD.

Were you doing anything in the background?

If not it sounds like something was running in the background for you, a virus or something to that effect. While your reinstalling I suggest (as it was said earlier) to run a full virus scan just to be safe.

Only thing that was running in the background was skype. I'll do a full scan once all updates are done.

No I got the ultimate collection from SE's own website.

Am currently installing, expect there will be a bazillion hours of updates once the install is complete.

The only way WoW is better than FFXI, you can start playing right away while the game is downlaoding and updating in the background.

I wouldn't. Its hard to believe a whole folder just disappears on itself. It sounds like you have some malware/virus/etc and I would clean and sort out that mess than have to deal with it AFTER you do your install and update. Just saying...

I would also look into the HD itself as someone mentioned to make sure you don't have bad clusters/sectors.

So *** tired of this. Still cant install. I could install playonline, but as soon as the installation of FFXI is about to begin, it automatically try to uninstall instead of install.

Does any computer wiz know how to fix this?

Well, since the install is already ***, you could search through the registry and delete all the entries for "Playonline".

That should make sure that your computer no longer thinks it's installed.
