Man, a lot of you just need to quit and go play Animal Crossing or something sheesh.
Adoulin was a bit of a system shock but getting myself and my friends ready for Delve bosses has been a blast. Maybe you should like, I don't know, try participating in content instead of bashing stuff you don't do.
Same here, except we enjoyed delve from day 1, Boss are fun and challenging, now that info is out even casual should be able to make ally and do NM at least.

Been lucky enough to get into some Tojil groups over the last week or so and it's the most fun I've had in the game in a while.

Then create the proper group or look to join one. This game never had "instant fun" unless you enjoyed the mini game like chocobo racing or pankration. So I'm not sure what made you finally decide to quit if that was your requirement. I agree with you, somehow, but this only apply to certain players (and imo, to a certain time, this is outdated). I already posted my reason not long ago:
Quote: I'm probably not the only one, but I'm tired. I have been on a few servers, having to prove who you are every time is tiring after a few years. Meeting these people who are delusional, terrible, yet tell you how bad you are because you don't have X stuff isn't even making me mad, it makes me give up completely. Sure I could play the game for about 2 or 3 weeks and make them understand that I deserve to be in there, but after 9 years of FFXI, it's just too much.
Instead of gearing my WHM, my COR or whatever else, while I have a more than capable Delve DD available, I rather just stop playing. I finally got my key item and I was what, maybe 2k plasm away from Ugui, earrings and some Mikinaak stuff to complete the deal. But just to get these 2k, there is so much convincing to do, or so much stuff that isn't fun to do, that I rather just do something else that is instant fun.
FFXI has become a chore, in the wrong way. The majority of people, good players or bad players, cannot log on the game and experience fun. They just can't. They have at least 4 weeks of suffering to go through, and even the most motivated veterans don't want to go through that.
As I said, Delve is a nice event that I actually enjoy doing, my issue is that I can't do it whenever I want and the way I want, even though I qualify as minimum requirement and above. I enjoyed the game the most back in 2007-2010, that's when I didn't have a job and could log on at any time and always have something exciting to do.
As it is, the game requires too much time in order to reach fun, and after so many years, going through absolutely brain dead groups on 4 servers, I don't have the patience to go through Cerberus' finest.
Instead, I'll go play other games that will allow me to play whenever I want and have fun right away.
By all means, enjoy FFXI if you do, but there is always a time when, if your friends have quit over and over, if you don't have the same amount of time to play, your delusions fade away and you face the harsh truth: the game isn't for you anymore.
I keep an eye on it because somewhere, I'm hoping to see a reason to dive in it again, because I made a lot of things that are fond memories. I don't hate the game, I just grew past it, for now.

LOL wishing FFXI to just die is not going to happen, as long as there are still the hardcore players paying for it, it will keep going. The game is on SoA plan from now on and moving along in that direction, either hop on the train or get left behind and move on, wait for more updates, play other games, or quit. Doesn't seem SE care either way, their numbers are met, profits are rolling, their core members are paying the fees, business as usual. Plus they are banking on FF14 to absorb most of those people who rage quit or the casuals who did quit. From the look of it, FF14 will probably meet their initial sales projection and then some, will it retain those subscribers, we shall see in 6 months :)
By Luvbunny1 2013-06-26 00:31:57
Tell me then fine sir, why are all the hardcores rage quitting? Someone needs to take their shades of hate off and get with some reality goggles man.
Look a lot of players are very unhappy with the way SoA is being handled. If you look at the official forum, that's all you read, threads after threads after threads of disappointment over the direction of the game. But there are also a number of players who seems to relish with SoA and enjoy the challenge, the grind and the difficulty. They may not be a majority, but they will stay with FFXI till the bitter end no matter what, and those numbers probably enough to pay to run the servers and keep the skeleton crew going and do SoA updates as planned. Most of us already paid for that $30 expansion and pretty much funded SoA development - even if we rage quit and cancelled our subscription.
They cannot be that dense to not see the negative posting in their official forum, it has been like that since SoA came out. They keep on trucking with what they have already planned, with a few tweaks here and there. As long their minimum numbers are met, FFXI will keep on going. Just be happy that it is still getting update. If you are not happy, take a break, check other games, and come back next year. This game will either get better, get worse, or will not really change much. We can always play Animal Crossing :)

How would you know what the sales projection for XIV are? How would you know if they are actually on track to meet or exceed these numbers?
You don't. At all.
It's just stupid to think SE released SoA with the intention to drive casual players away from here to XIV. Why do you people keep suggesting this with no actual proof?
They clearly had a plan and it did fail, but it makes no sense for them to drive people away.
Would you rather get 25$ from some guy or 12.95? Why would they not want people to play both games? That was the whole reason why they(originally) had a discount if subscribed to both, and during 1.0 allowed you to use your XI name + Server as your full name in XIV. No Company would intentionally push people away from one of their services to another.

SoA has tons of great ideas on paper. Server wide effort to affect the game, fast transportation (provided people do reives), a more democratic way to get your ultimate weapon (assuming people will go back and help others to get their clear). The implementation is not so great though. He should have gone with the big changes slowly to ease everyone to his new vision of gear and weapon "leveling up" instead of your character leveling up. The idea was not communicated clearly, and Delve was released way to soon. Now he has to backtrack and introduce Skirmish 2, etc... (I bet Delve 2 and Delve 3 coming soon to make Delve 1 obsolete in the future). There is really not much we can do at this point. Either get with the program, try to enjoy SoA and work your way to the new way of leveling. Or stop playing, rage quit, move on, wait for more updates and adjustments. It seems like his team is overwhelmed with works, and not much he can do with adjusting the game and please everyone. Even the update has to be split two ways... to buy more time. FFXI will probably be here next year, and the year after that lol. As long as people still pay, it will be here for us :)

Hes the thing dude. If you really love FFXI and really enjoy playing it, thats good on you. No one should make you feel bad for enjoying what you do.
But anytime anyone has anything bad to say about FFXI, you feel the need to jump on everyone and try to convince them they are stupid for not liking FFXI anymore and wanting to move on.
Why even bother? What good does it do to you to get people to stay and play a game they no longer enjoy?
Just let it be man.

Here you go, the latest update from Matsui on how to beat Delve boss:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/34286-Delve-Boss-Battle-Status-Update?p=448331#post448331
So basically, fine, use your stun strategy now, we will deal with this with upcoming new NMs where stun will not work lol. We took away your PD zerg, soon stun lock will also be moot, come up with better strategy. I wish he give us more pointer than being "vague" lol.

I'm not trying to convince anyone, they can make up their own minds. I am simply posting in a thread for FFXI in a website designed for FFXI.. Perhaps its the other way around if people hate FFXI so much why do they post in threads related to the game? Let people enjoy the updates without the doomsday prophets. If you have a negative opinion that's fine, but nobody wants to hear about FFXIV or doomsday.

I think we can all say that while this started out as a FFXI forum, it has really turned into much more than than, and its why people stick around.

In threads relating to the actual game? Seems more like a poor troll attempt if you honestly hate this game or don't care for it. Coming in and posting "LOLffxi, dats y i quit n sold ma acct so dat i cud play ffxiv."

Actually if you look at how many people are posting in XIV related threads and posting beta screenshots you'd see that's not true.
I honestly don't understand the animosity towards XIV. I was surprised to see even a beta screenshot from a seemingly well-liked BLU member of this community, downvoted by 16 people on the front page just now. Is there such a problem if players, former and current, of this community want to take part in a new FF MMO and bring their XI friends or share with them?
Most people that actually still play this ancient game are not going to quit immediately for a new MMO anyway. And let's face it, with the toxicity of this community towards new players by players with overinflated egos because this game has a very low skillcap in the sense that it's actually VERY hard to fail at something last I played. It's easy to wipe if you're inexperienced, it's not hard to zombie with a few people while the entire group raises and waits for weakness to wear.
When's the last time any of you saw a screenshot of nothing impressive at all, but decided to be kind and upvoted it? Like a relic? Maybe make a "grats" comment? Never? Because a lot of you can't stomach being nice to players who aren't as geared or experienced as you are.
This game has one of the worst communities I've ever been a part of. Only WoW compared but even then it's easier to find friendly players with their vast amount of subscribers. Not to say all of you contribute. I still talk 3 posters on this site. I've been playing the XIV beta with 7 former XI players. Three I met while playing this game itself, and 4 I met a couple months ago because I was repeatedly pugging Throne of Thunder with a guild that included a member named "Ridill" so I struck up a conversation to learn that a great deal of their core raiding team are former XI players.
Some of you though just seem to be mean for the sake of being mean. Your game is never going to get the attention from SE that XIV does, and you're not doing yourselves a favor portraying a community that nobody would want to be a part of. Face it, this game is old. You could shine it up and it still won't get the same interest as a new game from scratch. You should be taking solace in the fact that this website is trying to accommodate this community's cohesion by allowing screenshots of other MMOs and even building another site that is based around XIV.

Since people are struggling to keep the topic on track, here's a question.
If someone has quit the game, does their opinion of the game no longer matter? They've played years, just like everyone that is still playing, but they have lost interest or can no longer put the time into playing the game.
...
I personally think their opinion does have value, if not more than someone that still plays the game. If you still play, you're going to keep playing. However, someone who has left the game quit for a reason, and if that reason was based on a development decision then there is a lot of value in what they have to say. The reason I feel it does is because if SE changed the reason they left (for example: boring content, nothing to do), then making updates to counter that reason would bring players who left back.
I'm not talking about someone coming in saying FFXI sucks, everyone should quit before the servers go down. I'm talking about real opinions about a serious subject, or an issue. If the Dev Team made a choice that drove people away (C&B, R/M/E, nerfs, boring content), then that falls on SE. It isn't the players fault for losing interest. The player should not continue to pay for a game they no longer have fun playing. That doesn't mean they no longer care about the game, they just feel atm there is no reason to give the company money if they don't provide a product worth paying for.

Of course, I pre-ordered FFXIV PS3 version CE. I had 1.0 CE, I'm a die hard FF fan. You just don't see me going into FFXIV threads preaching how its a WoW clone that is doomed to fail after a few months do you? You don't see me being a negative harry about the games life in a FFXIV forum with a related ffxiv thread.

Up until now we have released year-long roadmaps for FFXI.
We also tried releasing half-year roadmaps as well; however, the further out we write a schedule the less accurate it becomes, and we are only able to let you know about major and limited content.
As a result, many have been disappointed because of schedule changes, it's been difficult to make frequent updates to it, and there are too many cons to having this, so we'll be changing it so we provide something like the current style moving forward where we go over what will be in the version update to come.
We appreciate your understanding. | |
