[Dev] Upcoming Version Update Announcement
By Kalila 2013-06-26 12:29:23
What the hell is wrong with the mods here? I post a picture of "What the ***" Picard, it gets removed in under an hour.
This dude has a link to a video of inter.. brand? robot sex ... still on a day later. What the ***? We all have to follow the rules, you weren't being picked on for no reason.
Hey guys, hope I can have your attention for a moment.
As anyone who's been around here for awhile probably knows, I'm a pretty lenient admin.
The forum rules are more like subjective guidelines. We're perhaps overly-forgiving in our disciplinary measures, choosing to slowly escalate issues from private warnings, un-indexing topics from the main page, topic bans, temp bans, etc. We work through problems in private, out of respect for user privacy. The number of people actually permanently banned from the site is surprisingly few: no more than a few dozen over 4 years.
Well, we have a problem.
You may have noticed that the number of ads, etc, on the site has been on the decline. Today, Google pulled their ads off the site entirely, citing that the amount of sheer profanity, nastiness, and other behavior exhibited on the forums was so bad, they no longer want to be associated with our brand. In other words, the behavior of our forum users has now put the future of the site itself at actual, tangible risk.
The blame here is shared. On one hand, it's our users' fault -- particularly a handful of regulars -- who have repeatedly refused to act with even a modicum of decency. But on the other hand, it's our fault for being too vague, too lenient, and failing to clearly delineate where the line is and take consistent, public action when it's been crossed.
-----------------------
So, some changes are coming.
I'm still working out exactly what they will be, but you can expect a lot less leniency towards posts that are profane, hostile, indecent, or target certain people or groups.
Flame Core may be going away. "Player Warnings" may be as well. We're tossing around the possibility of a global profanity filter. We don't know yet. But we will be less lenient in our disciplinary system, relying far more heavily on permanent site bans than we have in the past. And we will be far more pro-active in communicating precisely what the rules are and our process for dealing with infractions.
For site regulars who feel their prolific participation has previously entitled them to push the boundaries of the rules, I suggest you adjust your expectations accordingly, because our sponsors have been quite clear that you make up the bulk of the problem. On the other hand, we will need your help in fixing the immediate issue, and your continued participation is equally important to the health of the site.
But we can't mess around with this stuff, or there will no longer be a forum for any of you to participate in.
Thanks for your time, and your understanding. More specific info will be forthcoming.

I still find it funny considering the kind of sites google has their ads on, lol. I completely agree, it really doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
I read that 4 users that were previously banned reported the site, and that started everything, but I'm not sure how true that is.

And to be honest I see way more racism & sexysm on BG... To be more accurate, only thing that I came across and which can be considered as racist is the SS of the GTA africa game, which was removed a long while ago.
As for BG you see way more racism, swearing and sexysm then here. So I'm really confused now O.o

yes.. because the word '***' is far less socially acceptable than some weird *** futanarish appliance sex...
tbh, i was just kinda trying to make a quick joke out of the situation, but this is being taken way to serious by you guys. Vapid ignorance in the last two replies makes the *** side of me want to keep punching this tar-baby just to see how far you guys would go.

There are sarcasm tags for jokes, otherwise it's hard to tell when someone is joking via text.
I'm not sure if your "ignorance" comment was directed at my answer, but my answer was the reason; Google scans images, and can tell what kind of images are posted on this site. Oddly enough, Google owns Youtube, one would think they'd know what kind of videos are posted here.
I'm curious as to why this thread has gotten this far off topic.

yes.. because the word '***' is far less socially acceptable than some weird *** futanarish appliance sex... Google owns YouTube, so it suddenly becomes acceptable. No, it doesn't make any sense, but we still have to listen to Google because they control the funding for this site.

anyway, can max shut the hell up so we can please get back on topic?

If you want to get back on topic then make a post about the topic that people will respond to, simple as that.

If I have anything positive to say about these updates, it's about time they added some new outside SoA zones, I loved exploring the first ones on release.

The main thing I'm curious about is who dictates what they focus on for developments, is it solely matsui? Probably him, but with input from the other devs.

There are probably more than 6, but the rest are on FFXIV, those 6 just get days off of FFXIV to do FFXI, then there's Sunday, they don't work on FFXI on Sunday.

Arent there huge events planned for XIV? Like that system with monsters so big they have multiple points to attack that will use more than 18 people (since no one uses 36 people for einherjar)..... tho i dont know all the details, theres supposed to be some 24 person fights, but alot is 4-6 man dungeon crawls, my wife and i like to lowman stuff and the things ive heard sound promising
You can also get people from cross server to do events so that makes things a lot easier to do larger man stuff. ive heard about that too, never really played wow long enough to touch the endgame but its definately a welcome mechanic to make doing an event less stressful (no shouting)

The new zones look pretty dope. Weapons and armors are equally awesome and scary. Hoping there's more than just those three four weapons though, and a second one handed axe before all of the weapons are covered is annoying... similar to pulse daggers.

Mog Gardens seems like a more interesting concept then I originally thought. Good theme song never hurts either.

Up until now we have released year-long roadmaps for FFXI.
We also tried releasing half-year roadmaps as well; however, the further out we write a schedule the less accurate it becomes, and we are only able to let you know about major and limited content.
As a result, many have been disappointed because of schedule changes, it's been difficult to make frequent updates to it, and there are too many cons to having this, so we'll be changing it so we provide something like the current style moving forward where we go over what will be in the version update to come.
We appreciate your understanding. | |
