person B: moo? person A: definitely moo! person B: okay... moo person C: hi guys persons A&B: Moo or gtfo! ...*** cows Am I the only one who likes this addition? I mean, I'm not the kind of guy who sits down everyday and looks over all all my gear sets, and whether having this piece is better with that piece, so maybe I should get this piece so I can use another piece?
With the huge jump in power, we will finally get to what level 99 gear is meant to be, we jumped 24 levels from the 75 cap and were given sidegrades mostly. Even more so as Abyssea ended. Its nice to see what the strength of the equipment is in relation to other new equipment. Of course this doesn't mean I will just aim for the highest number and full time said equipment. I'll come here first and get advice from all you lovely people. It's just a number, its not a huge waste of time for SE to implement it. Remember, it's just a number! They can have the stats, but having an item level can leave someone out because they don't meet the level 115 requirement the group leader set to do the event.
Not everyone can get powerful equipment, and not everyone has the time to work for it either. Kalila said: » Cerberus.Kylos said: » Its just a number. The ID of an item, now that's just a number. They are adding a label that has the potential of having a very heavy impact on how players view other players. That doesn't mean it will happen, but there is a chance people will be complete *** about it, and that isn't how this game should be run. To me I don't care either way, but if it has the potential of excluding someone from a group just because they don't have a certain item level then I would prefer to not have it at all. You mean the kind of player who is a COR, doesn't even have an Armageddon 85, but will only accept delve DD to their alliance? Yes I've been there, so adding a number isn't going to change idiots who are "super elitist" to the point of retardation. They will exclude people with or without the number there. It's not always about the equipment, you can have some of the best gear around, but if that player doesn't know how to play the job, then that player is a waste of an alliance spot. Equipment does NOT mean everything, and anyone who thinks so does not know FFXI well enough to be considered elitist. Odin.Zicdeh said: » Fenrir.Sylow said: » Okay, let me rephrase, how is it a way to marginalize people that's any "worse" than how people already marginalize people? That's a much better question actually. The only reason I can think of, is that this "Gearscore" doesn't necessitate an intimate understanding of how gear really works and the situations in which certain sets are better than others. For example, maybe a Hybrid Haste-DT-% set would have a lower "Gearscore" than a more specialized set, but those sets are applicable in certain situations that others aren't. Valefor.Sehachan said: » I don't think it will make people shout for minimal power level, rather it might just cause noobs to fulltime even more random stuff than before. People with actual knowledge of the game, who organise event's will understand this is a stupid way to measure people. FACT 2. People who do believe this is an accurate way to measure your power, will be the idiot runs you never wanted to join anyway, and ultimately wipe. FACT 3. SE designed NIN to be a DD... We all know that everything SE says and does is always "golden" like abyssea, and VW and and hmm actually every update they ever did was amazing. No, people are not this stupid, points 1 and 2 are serious, good people will see this for the stupidity it is, and idiots who use "gearscore" will be "noobs" and thus won't use "gearscore" and will be mocked from now until FFXI servers die. You do understand the irony of your comment right? Their elitism is stupid, my elitism is goodest. All elitism is *** stupid. Why even create a flawed method of objective measurement in the first place? That's my point. Conagh you know our server has the filet mignon of idiots right? lol

What Conagh said. Anyone who relies on a little number in the bottom right to decide who they choose for an alliance have absolutely no idea what they are doing. Sadly, I could imagine some nooblet actually doing it.

I don't think most people are bitching about the idea being implicated. They are more worried about the after-effects that this will have with some of the player base. 1,) People less knowledgeable trying to sound elitist by placing gear score requirements on party members because that's what they did in other games to get by, like WoW. 2.) SE possibly taking this idea a step further and doing this like putting gear score requirements on endgame content, which, with the variety of equipment stats on gear in this game, may or may not work quite as they intend. (More than likely, not.) 3.) SE possibly removing gear-swapping completely from the game as a way to possibly solve people's issues about inventory. TLDR: Most people are more worried about the future imprecations this new stat on the gear could actually lead to. Stupidity +1 Crown Awarded to this WHM. /sc set warcappeddelay

OKAY that does it, I'm organising a Boss run and will put in shout "item level requirement 175+ No derps kthx" Cerberus.Anjisnu said: » Conagh you know our server has the filet mignon of idiots right? lol I miss Hades :( Of course there were idiots on Hades too but they didn't do stuff with me lol. The gear hasn't changed ... The use hasn't changed... It's a new tag... Rare, exclusive, ilvl. I mainly see it as a way to differentiate upgrading RME because it needs to be to differentiate them. Ukon99 vs Ukon99 ilvl 120 or whatever. It's a tag, it's not changing game mechanics at all...

ANyway I'm done with this thread, I organise my own runs for events, and I won't be using Gearscore to judge players. I'll judge them by how cool they look. Bismarck.Franzrobot

So are there going to be different item levels for the varying ranks of mezzotinted gear? I don't think there are enough numbers on that gear as it is.

I liked the "No derps kthx" policy, you should stick with that. Would it help if I said I added about 43 players to my blacklist (after emptying it) since Adoulin came and filled it with Idiots (not people with poor gear, just pure fail players)
Derps can't join my shouts be default, I filtered them from ever telling me stuff! Offline

Wow, the thought of the ballista gear swap penalty being instated across the board makes my brain bleed. Yeah, it was ballista and all this new amazing WS gear that also has dual wield or haste on it that really made me wonder. Yea I have seen these derps around. It is rather painful to watch lol. I can always admit to not being the greatest equipped player of all time, but I always give everything I got, specially when playing Dark Knight, because thats like.. the main reason I still play this damn game lol. And yea, I got Bereaver 13 so far, such a beast of a weapon, getting tired of plasm runs already though :( |
